So very saddened to hear of his passing about 6 days ago. Loved the man to pieces. May God take his soul to a beautiful place.

My older brother, Bill, worked for George long ago, 1982-1984. I spent a Saturday watching the hustle and bustle, it was amazing!! Sorry to hear George has passed. Bill died in 2006, but the music lives on.

One of a kind guy! I had the honor to work as his Saturday Store Security Guard for several years in the 80s....So many wonderful people that worked in that store......So sorry to find out that he is now with Nadine (his wife) in Heaven..... Will never forget George Luther.......Treated this old "off-duty" Atlanta Cop as a personal friend.....Rest in peace, my friend!

I wish to God they were still around. TGC just isn't a replacement, for the kind of service you could get from the RC generation of local music services. I loved the stories. We're forced to deal now, with the online leviathan. Hope you're resting peacefully and thank you for all you've done for music!

At the old Buckhead location, the best time to go would be on a Saturday afternoon when it was crazy busy. If you were mindful, one could slip out the door empty-handed and unnoticed. But if George managed to lock onto you, you can forget about leaving without a purchase. After so many encounters with that guy, I eventually mastered the art of invisibility. It's come in handy in other areas of my life in which I never expected, especially ones where the potential for physical violence was likely. Thank you George Luther!

Hey George! miss RYTHM CITY. ..While skipping high school , found out you dudes like to take practice on I believe a Paiste.cymbal. You were a long lost uncle to me. I built my studio and music career because of you and accessabiilty! Gosh, you d come in with a Big Mac and paid attention to my dreams of owning a Ludwig Butcher Block Set. Your wife would do the books and daughter and son were infrequent, but around. I am reminiscing, wanted you to know. Sharing,- not arrogant by any stretch. I d see you at Ace Hardware in Dunwoody! in the 80's where I worked. while in college. You re cool! Thank you! You can do it again!

I bought an Ampeg V4 amp head from him in 1971. $350. I didn't know he was the owner of the store (Buckhead location). He didn't have it in stock but convinced me to order it and he promised it would be delivered to my parents house 350 miles away. Took 6 weeks to get there. He could have just persuaded me to buy one of his used trade-in amps (in stock) but he didn't. I don't think he cared. I was just another stupid rock & roll kid from the sticks. Like a hundred others that day.

So a guy that played drums with me decided he wanted a PA system for some reason, though we used what I had already. I fancied myself a pretty good negotiator, and bought a fair share of gear, so we stop off first at this new place in Smyrna called American Music. I negotiated a very good price on a Yamaha sound system, but I advised Eric (the drummer) let's first go to Buckhead, to Rhythm City, where I generally bought gear. So we head up to Buckhead, and George prices us the very same Yamaha PA. I tell George (and by the way, he was the very best salesperson at that place, and it was full of salesguys), but I tell George "I can beat that price George" and he asks me where can I beat that price. Like a dummy, I tell him American Music. He says "No you can't, because I own that store!) Hell, I didn't know, but I tucked my tail and we headed back to Smyrna and I walk in the door and the store manager asks me "What the hell were you thinking? George called me and I can't sell you that system for that price anymore". Gee. That sucks. But I learned a good lesson, and Eric bought the PA, and George made a few bucks, and it was all good. We miss you George. We all miss you : )
