I first heard this song coming from a juke box in a coffee shop with my family in 1949 when I was 6 going on 7 and it has stayed with me all these 69 years. I'm sure glad I discovered it here!

Do you remember a song that had the line, "I can feel the matrimony running up and down my spine."?

My grandad just passed today and he used to sing “I just want my arms full of you” every time we hugged. This is the first time I’ve looked up what song it was from.

George Morgan would have turned 100 today (June 29, 2024), so I will sing this tonight at karaoke in tribute.

my great grandma passed away today, i felt lucky to have had her into my 30s, and i immediately remembered how this was her song of choice whenever she would take to the mic at family events, ever the performer. she was a young woman in her 20s when she heard this very song, here i am now remembering her and listening to it, and i think about how all times exist in this time, and how we are the living embodiment of that, as we are our ancestors. for that i feel blessed. rest in peace nan.

Great song, great version. And every bit as good was the interpretations by the Sons of the Pioneers and Marty Robbins. Thanks for a great post!

@@bendavidson3198 The Sons Of The Pioneers version is more warm in my memory but this version also has nostalgic recall with the steel guitar which a fellow classmate played with his older brother at our country school in about the same year - we were about 7 yrs old, steel guitar was so popular in the time on the radio.

Geo. does a beautiful job on this song, he was a dear ,loving person and a good friend of my husband and so much fun to be around, he liked to play jokes on everyone. My husband was a promoter and Geo was a regular on our shows. He is missed by all of us. He also did Lilacs and Fire a pretty song. Wife of Ken Allen

From the technique and tone, I want to say that the steeler on this recording sounds very much like Jerry Byrd, who was doing quite a bit of studio work at that time. Some may say it is Little Roy Wiggins, but at this time he was working for Eddy Arnold, both in studio and on the road.

Scott Bechler Not Byrd, probably Billy Robinson.

+Scott Bechler It is Donald Davis on steel guitar. But Alwey Wong, I agree, it sounds very much like Billy Robinson.

I think it would be more correct to state that this song was written by Tim Spencer and recorded first by George Morgan... But thank you very much for this rare recording. Excellent country-style performance... Completely different with Mickey Gilley's one and even more intriguing due to this...

actuall the sons of the pioneers may have done this song first, for it was written by tim spence, a member of that grop before George morgan. a pop version was done by Sammy kaye.

Tim Spencer of The Sons of the Pioneers apparently gave this song to George Morgan to record. He did, and of course it was a big hit for Morgan. Later that same year, 1949, TSotP also recorded it, and many versions followed, including Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Slim Whitman and, of course, Mickey Gilley in 1974.

I also think Eddy Arnold had a version.

My understanding is that WSM spent a lot of money to correct George's eye which at one point was crossed.
