Ringo was a drunk then and clearly under the influence. I remember watching this interview in 1988 when it was first shown on ITV in 1988. He and his wife sobered up a few months later. He's 76 now and looks great. He's a class act now. George was always a class act. Love Paul too.

So.... u don't know either eh? congrats. u've contributed nothing, nor assisted in any way, one persons plea/request for understanding them; other than proving how insecure/egocentric SOME brits are about themselves &/or their language/dialect. Perhaps sometime this yr a true good Samaritan will "step up" and correctly interpret some of their/this "dialogue" for me/us. If not, no worries; more important things to "sweat about."

al karg I understood perfectly. I have lived short intervals of my life in England (mostly London) and at first, I thought everyone spoke "BBC British"-very crisp and nondescript. Just as I can recognize US dialects-Southern, Texan, New England, middle America, LA, I am much better at picking up a particular British inflection now. My favorite is Geordie. When they're drunk, nobody knows what the hell they're on about. But I'm like Vincent Price. When asked where he got his accent he said "I talk like everyone else in my hometown-St. Louis"! Um...no.

I was diagnosed with cancer-thought I would be able to go once more but I'm starting to get really sick. It's my only real regret, though I've been so many times. I need some weird flavored (prawn!) crisps. Ride the Tube to nowhere. I really wanted to go to the Galapagos and see the giant turtles, too. As Doris Day would say "Que Sera Sera". If you have a dream, make it happen!

Ringo was a professional musician when the Beatles were serving their time in The Star Club, Hamburg. He played one of the most demanding gigs ever, in the resident band at Butlins. Playing your own sets, backing visiting artists, backing Redcoat Shows, rehearsals, reading music etc etc etc.

I'm sitting here watching Ringo smoking and alluding to how hard he partied back in those days(and he partied VERY hard)and flash forward to today and we see this very fit 75 year old who's still out there touring and looks 15 years younger than his age.Makes a good case for it being mostly in the genes.

You could say that we load our metabolism with so much crap and toxic stuff, while we were designed to live a healthy life enjoying love, sports and nature until our late 90's, some even up to a 110, and the latter even under the terrible conditions of our life style look very good in their 70's. You could also say that the argument of health as a lottery ticket is a way to say: there's nothing we can do about it so let's party. A doctor tells a patient, you're killing yourself with your tobacco or with your food, and he knows they can't change their lifestyle, so he has to push pharmaceuticals and surgery.

Fordham1969 I see your point, but his genes were not so good: he spent years in the hospital as a child. For the last 20 or more years he's been a vegetarian (and stayed sober), that's why he looks younger than he is.

There are some stupid negative comments about Ringo here. Both of them are totally fab. It's a great interview which I remember well. Ringo loved John. Nothing wrong in saying he was in the Bahamas when John died. I do think the four of them loved each other. Simple as that. But like any mates, they squabbled. The difference is, it was all in the public eye. As George said, "I love Paul..."

What! Ringo is great! He even has a song about being great, but seriously it was his drumming that first turned me on to the Beatles in '63 before they came to the US. His drumming is like none other. He explains why in another interview. His humor and what a character! his acting, the best actor of the Beatles. RINGO!

Ringo Starr, in spite of all the Monday-morning quarterbacking second-guessing naysayers, was exactly the right drummer for the Beatles. Listen to his work on every album (I know Paul filled in a couple of times, but Ringo was overwhelmingly the percussionist on every LP); listen to his wit in the interviews and observe the chemistry within the band, both onstage and off. He was as irreplaceable as any of them.

I always liked Ringo... he was not part of the original trio of John, Paul and George, and was always just a speck of an outsider.... But he loved them all and they loved him. He remains the most down-to-earth of all four... George was cerebral and a bit mystical. Paul was incredibly talented but seems quite fixated on himself... John was on another planet a lot of the time... 'hard to know just who John thought he was, but it was clear he was seeking to make himself into someone quite distinct and different... I like all four of these men... each in a different way... Paul was probably he most prolific... I was very sad when George passed... I never thought he got his due because he existed in the shadow of the incredible duo of Lennon & McCartney... but be that as it may... I love 'em all, and I love their music... and I think that I always will. They were the cosmic planetary alignment people talk about... the right time, the right place, the right talents, the right individuals... and the right marketing, too... as it turns out... They defined the music of the Sixties as much as John and Robert Kennedy defined the politics of the Sixties. I live through all that and I wouldn't take anything for the experience of it all...

+Charlie Brown how was Ringo an outsider? He was in the band - they were called the "Fab Four" - yet, you keep calling them a trio. This is just in your head.
@ramasully
@ramasully 8 жыл бұрын
I agree with Charlie Brown, in that Ringo was NOT an original. But then,..I'm not just a fan of the "Fab" Beatles like yourself. I love their whole story. I think the reason Ringo always wears sunglasses is because he is hiding,...he is insecure. Sure, he comes across as loose, relaxed, and funny. He has a fantastic personality for sure, and that's one of the reasons they asked him to join the Beatles....but the MAIN reason they asked him to join was that Paul and George's egos could no longer handle the fact that Pete Best had become the most popular member of the Beatles in Liverpool AND Hamburg. Best was admired (and copied) by most of the local drummers back then, and the female fans were crazy for him. McCartney and Harrison were still in their late teens...and they just couldn't handle the natural feelings of jealousy. John liked Pete, but he was too wrapped up with his own challenges of expecting a baby with his girlfriend Cynthia...so he went along. He was a working class guy, who knew he was going to have to raise a child...so he sided with Harrison and McCartney for the survival of the band, as it was about to blast off. and he knew it. So, blast off they did....and poor Pete Best watched in disbelief.....stunned and betrayed. The reason I have a problem with Ringo, is that HE was the one who insisted that Pete Best's image be stripped from the cover of the Anthology album. Pete Best slaved away, night after night with the Beatles when they were in Hamburg. That was when they truly started sprouting into the band that was beginning to shock UK, and would eventually shock the world. Ringo is the luckiest guy in the history of Rock and Roll....and in my opinion, he's one of the biggest pricks in the history of Rock and Roll, too. Why? For not sharing what undeniably belongs to Pete. The respect that comes with being the ORIGINAL drummer for the Beatles. Poor Pete.....even after all these years, he's still a victim of petty jealousy. "Peace and Love"....

Until the moment Ringo joined the Beatles the band toiled in obscurity. Within 18 months they were the biggest band that ever was or ever will be. It's not a coincidence.

James Sullivan: "Poor Pete" I don't think was very good. They way I heard it was that George Martin said you need a new drummer. The boys knew Ringo, and played some of the same venues that Ringo played in (with Rory Storm) and so they chose him. As far as I'm concerned I'm glad the did. Who doesn't like Ringo? Really The Beatles couldn't be the same without him, his unique drum playing and famous Ringoisms such as "A hard days night" which John Lennon, took and turned into a hit song and became the title of the Fab Four's first film. Not to mention, Ringo liked country music so, we got to hear covers of "Act Naturally" a Buck Owens tune, and the like.

Certainly they had a period where they were quite close. It really started after their dentist dosed them with acid in early '65. For the next 2-3 years, John and George had a "connection" between them forged in their shared hallucinogenic experiences with LSD. George stated he and John could almost communicate with one another without speaking - something John would claim to do with Yoko later on. However, their paths diverged after George became more spiritual and religious and renounced acid in late '67. Their bond seemed to snap after the trip to India. When the Beatles returned to the UK, John hooked up with Yoko and became more distant from not only George but the other two as well. By early '69, the relationship was tense and a fight between the two precipitated George's quitting the band. Obviously, they patched things up to an extent, but I don't think they were ever as close as they were from '65-'67 again.

no john loved ringo the best for the longest and most consistently , and they all loved john to pieces, even paul when he was angry at john still was sweet on him. john's least favorite was paul, because of the band breaking up and all the legalities surround that, and i am sure he was very loving towards george but he always said that george made him feel like daddy that left home when he left the band and he resented him a little for that. ringo however, he was very very sweet on always, even through the legalities of the band breaking up which was acrimonious, a bunch of them were suing each other, i forget over what, all sorts of conflicts.

Ringo always had stomach problems since he was a kid, he went veggie long before Paul, I remember Ringo taking a suitcase full of Baked Beans when they first went to America, I think he only ate eggs beans and chips the whole tour.

it wasnt rehearsed...the sad but hones fact is that Ringo was a bit high and a bit drunk as was typical of this era...thankfully he was just going through some rough times during the post-Beatles breakup and turned his life around to get back in music and film and live healthier. Th Beatles always laughed and had a good time during interviews and such..and George and Ringo are no exception.

These were the two “quiet” Beatles....Ringo wasn’t impressed with the Maharishi like George. Good friendship there folks !

From the early days in Hamburg, John and the boys knew that Ringo was a match for the band. They were constantly inviting him to sit in on their set. Ringo is a great drummer because he plays for the song, the music, not to be perceived as a virtuoso, flash drummer. John Bonham is a great musician as well. But that's really comparing apples and bowling balls. Overkill would have ruined much of the Beatles music, and no one can ever accuse ol' Ringo of that. You can accuse him of being a genius!

How to sync audio and video : download the KZbin with a Mozilla Add-on (or Google Chrome Add-on) like convert2mp3 (it downloads KZbins) then on your computer read it with VLC Media Player (others do it too i guess) it allows you sync sound and image.
