My favorite episode, George never forgot his first customer, he framed the first sale, a dollar. Years later when he became successful and the customer was old and living alone, he still made her feel good about herself by cleaning her clothes only pretending to put it on a tab. That was so sweet!

I love this episode very much. I love how this woman who was his first customer would become a lifelong customer for many years to come. It also touch my heart how George rips her tab because he knows she's poor and can't afford it.

Too young to watch it when it new episodes in the early 80s. Saw it in reruns. While by the time it was in last couple of seasons, it “jumped the shark” with not so good episodes, there was some a handful of excellent ones thrown in as well. Very underrated among the best episodes of this classic show. And yes, I was in tears too at the end of this scene. 😢

@@DarlingNikki2 Me too. I also love how George overcame his prejudices towards Tom and Helen and even Jenny as he became friends with Tom and Mr. Bentely. He still insults them but not as much.

Couldnt stand him when i was a kid. As an adult i LOVE him. Always loved Weezy. And Helen. Florence not so much. Mother jefferson, oh yes. The 2nd Lionel was a hottie. Jennie was strong. And Sherman Hemsley’s 3 piece suits were incredible.
