Hi Keith, For what it's worth, the flanges and couples are still holding up, several years now. A couple of the brackets (of 12) holding the rubber garbage can to its plywood flange broke over the years. Are you tempted by 3D printing? It's a great woodshop asset.

Thanks George. I especially like the French cleat system! My 3d printing is almost solely for making fixturing aides... things I couldn't easily make otherwise with the same level of precision.

Thank you, CS. One thing I like doing when I read comments is to search for You Tube videos, especially when the name suggests a video topic. Creative Space, I was sure I'd find you on You Tube. But no. Do you publish your fixtures -- which has to be the best use of 3D printing in the shop -- on the net someplace?

A fellow woodworker was thrilled with his 3D printer just for being able to join incompatible hoses with his own tailor-made 3D printed reducers. And it doesn't stop there: take a look at my horizontal mortiser on Printables.com. Just put "horizontal mortiser" in the search field. Thanks for your positive comment!

Thanks for sharing. A brilliant study, IMHO. You covered just about all the points on the 3D printed tools for the workshop. I particularly enjoyed your tool holders. You can 3D print a sustainer at 10th the price of the popular models. Just buy a Stanley Fatmax box with the transparent lid from your nearest DIY store. Then 3D print the organiser that fits inside. All you need to do this is a mobile phone, SketchUp and your 3D printer.

Thanks Jeff. I forgot to mention my parts divider -- a small 13 compartment case that fits inside a common, 2-inch wide plastic drawer for a set of trimpots from 500 ohm to 1 meg. A bonus to printing your own drawer dividers is they are more rigid than the half-slotted ones that are typically provided. Oh, and I forgot Hayley's dog tag, but now I'm really straying out of the shop!

Hello George! I like your 3D printed french cleat. And the rotating handle is so cool! So many possibilty with 3D printers... Since "noel" is pretty close, I think about bying a 3D printer. I saw some under$300... Great video George...

Hi Woody, That's great to hear, that you're thinking about getting a printer. Three 3D printer you-tubers who have great printer reviews (with other stuff too) are: "Thomas Sanladerer", Angus of "Maker's Muse", and Joel of "3D Printing Nerd". About a year ago I said expect a layout of $500-$1500 to get set up with a useful printer and its supplies. Things have changed so you can pretty well cut those numbers in half. Good luck with your shopping!

Found out years ago that the stack height on US dimes could vary as much as 50 cents due to wear of the smaller coins. The problem showed up in a high speed coin roller we were developing. The volume counter at the end of the day was disagreeing with the height count by several dollars.
@georgefouriezos8863
@georgefouriezos8863 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen C. Interesting! If I understand it, there was a five-dime difference in stack height depending on whether the dimes were newly minted or worn. That would be a serious concern for a high-volume processor. Was the work-around for the machine to count out 50 dimes rather than to measure their stack height? Would you happen to know -- and share -- the mean thickness and standard deviation of US dimes in circulation?

Very interesting. I have done several of the same things. I have a Jet ship vac, similar to yours and changed its orientation and added a cyclone just as you did, it works MUCH better. It would be fun to get together and share so ideas. I use a Prusa mk2 printer.
@georgefouriezos8863
@georgefouriezos8863 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, so true, it's amazing just how much of an improvement the cyclone delivers. Since the modification I added an acrylic window to the garbage can because it fills up so fast; that's how well it works. No more guessing about when it's time to empty the bin. So, are you in the Ottawa-Gatineau area? If so, does an afternoon beer sound about right?
@jimjacques8653
@jimjacques8653 6 жыл бұрын
George Fouriezos agree that can fills fast. I do not have a window but need one. Can you come to south Carolina for a visit? We have nice warm winters and lots of local beer.

There are some good ideas there, George. I can find some immediate use for the dust collector adapters. I also like your ideas for the dovetail markers. I am new to 3D printing and am just about to try printing some soft jaws for the wood lathe chucks. On another note, I was wondering if you would be willing to share your stl files for the coin sorter or point me to where I can find them? My wife owns a vending machine and a sorter for Canadian coins would be a huge help to her. Thanks! Steve.

Hi Steve, I'm just about to sign off from the computer for the day, but I'll sort through the files and add some notes for you tomorrow. I'll send the .stl files, but can you also make use of the source OpenSCAD files? I will need an email address to send attachments. If you'd like to keep your actual email address private you can create a temporary one to reply here and then burn it later. Or you can just email me at georgef@uottawa.ca Bye for a bit, George F.

Great Video George. what type of 3d printer do you have or recommend if you could purchase another?
@georgefouriezos8863
@georgefouriezos8863 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Benjamin, My first printer was a Prusa i3 mk2 as a kit, late 2016. I upgraded it to a mk2.5s and then ordered its next generation i3 mk3s, again as a kit. So I now have two printers, and am completely satisfied with them both. In fact, as I was building the second printer, I forced a part and broke it. No problem, I printed a replacement with my existing printer. If you're new to 3D printing, then I recommend the kit because 1) they can deliver faster and 2) building it will teach you lots about how these things work. I can't compare mine to any other brands as I have only had the Prusas. Good luck shopping!

Thanks a lot for the great ideas. One question: could you provide me with a link of that flip stop block for the table saw ? I can't find it anywhere on the internet.
@georgefouriezos8863
@georgefouriezos8863 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Philippe, It is a clunky flip-stop I wrote in OpenSCAD, free design software downloaded from OpenSCAD.org. If you input the code below into the OpenSCAD editor, you will be able to export an STL. You will also be able to modify the print to suit your needs. Here's the OpenSCAD file: //flip_stop.scad //March 2017 //George Fouriezos rotate([0,-90,0]){ difference(){ union(){ translate([0,20,0])cube([20,80,100]); translate([0,10,0]) cube([10,10,100]); translate([10,10,0]) cylinder(100, r=10); } translate([10,10,0]) cylinder(100, r=3.2); translate([10,10,94]) cylinder(r=6.5,6,$fn=6); translate([0,0,20]) cube([20,50,60]); } } difference(){ union(){ intersection(){ translate([40,0,0]) cube([20,50,60]); translate([50,10,0]) cylinder(60, r=40); } translate([40,40,0]) cube([10,10,60]); translate([10,-6,0]) cube([50,6,60]); } translate([50,10,0]) cylinder(60, r=3.2); } //Let me know if this does not work for you.

@georgefouriezos8863
@georgefouriezos8863 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, thanks for commenting. I have not placed the stl files anywhere because my prints are either too simple or too particular to my needs. But if there are a few you'd like to have, I could send you either the OpenSCAD source files or their .stl files. The OpenSCAD files are the easiest to adapt (I think) but most slicers should be able to re-scale .stl files. (Fair warning: my programming is often a little kludgy.)
