I have been over the GW Bridge twice, both times at night. I'm off work with a neck injury now, and might not be able to go back to trucking, and that won't break my heart, but not being able to go over this bridge again during the day will. I'll be back again regardless. 😎😊💙

Thanks for this. It was so nice to see a high-quality video of GWB, I lived in an apt just behind the construction at 1 min mark, to the left. Drove on it many times.

Wow I didn't know that a bridge so close to me in my hometown is the WORLD'S BUSIEST bridge! Really cool to know, I've personally driven on it a few times since I predominately go into NYC via train or the Lincoln/Holland tunnels

Great Video. Nice to be able to enjoy the ride and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about the car next to you doing something crazy. I believe this is the fastest I've ever seen traffic move on the GW.

I have either driven or ridden on the GWB several hundred times, the last time in the 1970s. And there was a movie, The Seven Ups, made in the 1970s that featured a high speed chase, part of which was staged on the GWB.

one thing to note even tho its not signed further . US 46 does in fact go over the GWB and ends on the border between NJ and NYC along the hudson. a lot of the us routes ending near NY kinds stops being signed near it even tho tho go further tech

The George Washington Bridge was officially opened on October 25, 1931, almost 91 years ago. The lower deck was officially opened on August 29, 1962, just over 60 years ago.

Back in Nov 2011, I was going home to visit Long Island and the Verrazano Bridge was closed due to the NYC Marathon and them using it to run on so I had to pull over at a rest stop to check my Rand McNally Road Atlas to figure out another way to get there and the George Washington Bridge was the first step - $15 cash toll back then. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive now. EDIT: "Only" $16 now.
@MileageMikeTravels2 жыл бұрын
Surprised it's only increased by $1 since then. Always gotta keep that Rand McNally Atlas on deck just in case.

Just picking again... US 46 should have been shielded up to the NJ/NY state line. According to the NJ State logs, that is where it ends. I love how overtaxed NY can't put proper route signs up. What happened to US 1 and US 9? I saw a US 9 sign AFTER the NY 9A exit, but NOTHING of US 1!
@MileageMikeTravels2 жыл бұрын
Yeah signage in these parts can be scarce. I have to look at Google and other places to find concurrencies because you won't find the signs on the roads themselves.
@davidmurphy32142 жыл бұрын
You think NY is bad. Try western PA. Firstly. There are very few roads that are straight. Most of the time you're on one road. You come to a 3/4 way stop. As any common sense person. You continue straight. And figured it's the same road name route number. 2 3 4 miles down the road you stop at Sheetz. You ask how much further. The people answer. Go back 3 miles to the blinking light and turn left. Damnit it's the same name and route number you were following. Yes there isn't a sign route number with a turn marker either. The only solace is if someone is going that way. They have you follow until you get to the turn. And they will be happy.

@Jim Allen The Holland and Lincoln Tunnels bore those names right from the start. There was some debate over the Verrazano Bridge. Some people wanted to name it the Narrows Bridge while others suggested naming it the Staten Island Bridge.

Nice video! I think there was something at the toll booths that was making the George Washington Bridge Northbound travel more slower. I forgot if it was signals that told you that you are clear to go through the George Washington Bridge because you paid the toll fare or something else.

Dude you just broke anti terrorism laws! Better hope the NYPD doesn't see you filming the bridge! JK, nice footage. Absolutely RIDICULOUS that NY doesn't let you film this bridge!
@ryanearles20242 жыл бұрын
Actually, they do now. There used to be a City Law that you can't film or take photos of the bridges or tunnels in NYC due to fears of terrorism (basically due to 9-11), but that has been lifted a few years ago. And since then, the signs that say "No Photos or Videos Strictly Enforced" have been removed on all the bridges and tunnels in NYC.

Literally everyone has a camera in their pocket now. Probably the best thing the smart phone ever accomplished: eliminated the harassment of photographers in NYC. You literally couldn’t take a picture of anything in that city for a decade and a half after 9/11 without being treated like a potential terrorist.
