I like the way that old gentlemen introduced the tomb as a sacred place in a most respectful manner, I'm not American, but I think people should pay their respect when visiting such a special historical place.

@@DarrenMalin No. King George III betrayed his subjects and broke the divine contract and made a mockery out of it when he refused to let the colonists handle taxation issues on their own like before the French and Indian War and then he declared in late 1775 that he will hunt down and kill all the leaders of the Revolution. Until that time the colonists still officially loved the King and the UK and wanted to simply get their taxation rights back. George III killed it when he decided to proceed with defeating and executing the leaders of the Revolution. Look at the flag that Washington and the patriots used. That first U.S. flag had the Union Jack because the 13 colonies still wanted to stay in the UK until George III declared total war on them.

Stone Trellis :: Very true! It is so amazing to see the things that Washington used. I hope the citizens of the USA will always treat Mount Vernon as a sacred place. I am very afraid that the dumbing down of the American people by the fascist left of our education system will keep Americans from realizing the meaning of freedom and what our founding fathers sacrificed their wealth and lives to found this great nation. I am afraid most children will think he is some old dead dude. I think this dumbing down of our population was done purposely so people will not think America is a special place and there is no reason to protect and save this GREAT NATION. THANK GOD FOR PRESIDENT WASHINGTON AND PRESIDENT TRUMP!

I can't imagine what it is like being next to that tomb. George Washington, so near yet so far. I copied and paste this from the Mt. Vernon site. They have a section about ghosts at Mt. Vernon. Whatever your beliefs are I thought this was really interesting. an interpreter from 2006, explains what happened to her at George Washington's Tomb. The first time I experienced this “ghost” was Easter morning in 2006 when I was scheduled to open Washington’s Tomb. It was early and very quiet and there was no one around - the guests had not made their way from the Mansion. I stood in front of the open door and I saw an ectoplasm in the far right corner of the Tomb. When I moved, the ectoplasm moved. I watched as it became a blur in my vision and it continued to move around. I took a photo that showed a streak of light through the blur. The second photo showed the blur. As soon as voices of the guests coming down the hill could be heard, the ectoplasm disappeared. This happened on three different occasions.

By far our best president. Nobody else comes close at all. Without him the country would have been dead before 1810. Imagine if Jefferson or Madison were president in the 1790s during the French Revolution. They would have declared war on the UK and we would have been destroyed by the British who had a much better army in the 1790s than during the Revolution. The British would have at the very least divided the country up and scheme to divide the USA into 2 or 3 separate countries. Washington and Jay's Treaty prevented all of that.

This, and Washington's whole example, illustrates the distinction between a people, of any color race creed gender etc etc, following a set of principles and another people following a mere human mortal. The greatness in Washington, and usually in America, is that we made the former choice, not the latter. This is why there is no official language...and cannot be. This is why there is no official religion...and cannot be. This is why we need not fear those of different color but must be very afraid of those who seek to undermine our institutions and the principles on which they are founded. This is why we must INCREASE OUR EFFORTS to educate ourselves and our children in the knowledge of these founding principles. No, not merely the Constitution (which is, by design, highly malleable) but rather the CIVICS principles on which it is based. We need more civics classes, more political and sociological education. Fear those who turn us away from these sources of wisdom. Do NOT fear those who look different.

I think George Washington was the best president, he showed us the standards we should have for a great president, and without that man america would not be here he was a natural born leader.

I wonder if the host in this video is aware that the gold fringe means that that is a corporate flag of the "United States" and not an "American" flag of the Republic that President Washington fought for.

George Washington was persecuted by the press and those in Congress just like Lincoln..Kennedy....Reagan..Trump. He was a Christian and prayed often on the Battlefield for the troops etc. Prayer was a big deal to him, historically but its often left unsaid, a thing which I am sure he would not like as he felt God lead and any good he did from God only.

Lincoln was not persecuted by the press, not the domestic press anyway Anybody that dared print negative stories, particularly if it they spoke out against his war, would be locked up without charges

If you look at the Pledge of Allegiance in the written form, there is NO comma between the phrase "one Nation under God" which means there is no pause in the oral version. It is not "one Nation" pause "under God". We should really say the Pledge correctly.

This country is never about the leader of our nation but the people who live in it that matters the most. Every American will screech out on who will serve for the next 4 years to help make this country beautiful and great! Like it or not, Our people screamed out for Donald Trump not to have him work for us but to work with him. This country is designed for the people.

Wow I deleted my comment literally when you guys responded to it. Lol would you care to repeat what you said? I didn't see it. It was the question about whether their bodies are still in the tombs or if they had withered away.

No problem! The bodies are indeed still in the tombs, and will never be opened as that would be desecration.

***** Wow, that's amazing. Washington was such a fabled man who we hear so much about but have never actually seen, such as in photographs. So it's just incredible knowing that the real man is actually in there. And thank you for responding.

There would probably be some remnants of the skeletons still there. How much depends on how much air and moisture got to the bodies. There are people that study the decay of bodies for the knowledge they can use in forensic investigations. They would be the kind of people that may be able to give you a specific answer to your question. And it is sn interesting question.

That's the thing about Freemason conspiracy theorists. If they are so bad then should we hate Washington who was a huge mason (there is a Masonic George Washington Monument)? I refuse to ever condemn Washington.
