Finally after a very long time we have got round to concreting the workshop, which should make my life considerably easier when doing servicing and maintenance especially with the lorries, our mixer bucket means we can lay a 40ft by 10ft by six inch slab in under 2 hours.

Remember as a kid helping my dad mix concrete. The one thing that would really upset my dad was to put in to much water. Paradoxically you need water but to much will weaken ruin the mix.

Unless he got that cement free, packed is a really expensive and inefficient way to do this. Part-load bull would've been easier... for cement or concrete.

You are certainly a very versatile and skillful man. There are people who are called "handyman" - I think you should have a big W on your work clothes and be called "WonderMan". The specialised mixer bucket is a great idea, so much more practical than an ordinary static barrel mixer and the need to empty that into barrows (we used to use power barrows, but they hold only about 1/4 tonne if I remember - hardly anything).

We used to have a bucket like that from Merlo with a TurboFarmer. Was a great bit of kit...especially for crab steering when filling trenches etc. My dad (construction co. owner) still thinks that the auger type makes a bar better mix than the usual turn and fall sort of mixers.

do the math ! this way is cheaper saving about £20 per meter all be it a lot slower and prob is using free labour , if i buy 2 tone of bagged cement from my local builders yard usually costs £1.80 per bag

Do have to laugh at all the people giving out about no mesh and not thick enough... the pass way for lorries at home was poured by my grandfather with sand and gravel dug from the river mixed by hand and its bearly 3 inchs thick and theres not a crack in it......
@charlesstevenson5141
@charlesstevenson5141 7 жыл бұрын
That shit is going to be full of cracks in the firs year if not damn near busted up. No mesh down to pretension against the cold, slab is to thin and the mixer batches are too inconsistent in water to mix ratio plus too much time between batches.

Good job George ! It's good to see someone get into their work - get after it - and make a "go" of their life. Best be watching out for that auger when you are feeding in the cement. Watching this on a computer screen I didn't have very good depth perception and a couple of times their it looked like your hands got REAL close to the auger. Once that bad boy bites you, your friends would rename you "Stumpy." Good luck and keep up the great vids. Thumbs UP! from someone lived on a farm and did allot of concrete work down in Texas.

Good principle to get a lot of people with back problems. But cement packages are more meant for laying bricks i think. For such a floor you normally just call a cement truck.

Its to allow for expansion. Otherwise the whole floor would end up cracking. Somewhere, you will literature (BSI?, ISO?)find the proper spacings that you require for it to be sufficient - probably based on depth, length of run or square meterage most likely.
