I've got the New Holland T7 on my Dowdeswell DP7E 5 furrow plough. I go over a few pointers for setting up and using a plough. Check out KV 6080 for more hints and tips. / @geoffkv6080

Nice job that George it looked to be matching up very nice considering the tyre size. The old plough looks to run very well. Thank you very much for your kind words, appreciate it,

Ploughing looked great to me George! Matched up both ways lovely, nice and level, no trash showing, good and straight, very well finished headlands! Most important is the fact that you took pride in what you did and enjoyed it! Cracking video - most enjoyable.

Soil sticking to the boards is a pain. Before ploughing I use a plastic orange or vegetable pocket with river sand, then I rub the boards to a shine. Using the pocket and sand does the job really quick. Use lots of water. Then before putting the plough away at the end of ploughing. I smear the boards with grease. This stops the rust.

We have a Dowdeswell at work and same problem that rear wheel just do's not want to flip over half the time, great video pal always a pleasure spending time in your T7 or TW classroom.

I ran a plough like yours George, a long time ago now and it was a good strong piece of equipment. In fact I "wore out" three tractors with it, a Fiat 1580 Dt,Fiat 160/90 and saving the best till last 1988 Massy Ferguson 3680.Thanks for the vid mate it was good to see the old Dowdswell, mine was a six furrow version by the way..Olds Cool!!😉👍

We rented out for 3 seasons fields to big potatoe growers I mean the big boys with maybe up to 15 machines in field and I had go in 1050 and what a machine. It pulled 9 furrow Kuhn through soil like knife through warm butter and them Kuhn ploughs are made last and must be couple tonnes!

i do a similar technique as you for corners going at an angle and for keeping headlands parallel doing markers around the headlands is the easiest and best way to make ploughing headlands easier . all you need to do is have Plough slightly turned and lightly skim the ground so it isnt to rough to drive over

Im an old fella , I don't remember when I started ploughing but I was 12 with a David Brown 25 and a 2 furrow disc plough,, we cant use mouldboard ploughs because the soil was so heavy ,, a disc plough is easier to pull ,, A TE20 can pull a 2 furrow ,, a MF35 can pull a 3 furrow ,, a MF 65 can pull a 4 furrow ,, a MF178 can pull a 5 furrow ,,, why do you need 150 hp to pull a 5 furrow mouldboard plough ? haha I know which I would rather buy the diesel for ...

When you did that 1st headland, hasn’t it left an empty furrow where you met the field line furrows? I can’t understand why you didn’t put the empty furrow to the headland side

I plough corners like you at work but at home with 100hp on 4 furrows we just get as close as possible on the outside run then turn around and plough back up what we've just done a tractors length

That’s some really nice 👍 ploughing there George, you shouldn’t put yourself down like that, because I was like you when I was ploughing but I really did enjoy 😊 doing that particular job and of course the cultivation work there after and there are days for myself especially this year where I have had the time to think back to those days and I thought that they were the best days that I have ever worked and you take care of you and yours and see you on the next one, ta ra for a bit.

I'm not a farmer and have never done any ploughing, but I don't understand the set up. You set everything equal, but when you're ploughing the tractor is on the tilt (two wheels in the furrow) so doesn't this mean the the plough is on the tilt? If the plough is on the tilt then why isn't the inside furrow deeper than the outside furrow?

I remember in the 1970’s on my family’s farm plowing the neighbors field that we rented with our IH 826 Hydro Demonstrator. One part of the field had kind of a bowl shape near the road and in one pass about half way up the hill the tractor came to an abrupt stop as the right rear tire spun like crazy and was digging itself in. I quickly pushed in the clutch and it stopped. I lifted the 3pt to lift the front of the plow and I believe it backed out fairly easily. I went around that spot and resumed plowing. I think I remember seeing clay or sand in the hole so maybe there was a spring there? The rest of the ground I believe the soil was rather good.

Never known tip about having back furrow touch ground slight bit before front, but makes sense once the weight is off the front of the tractor it will be dead level. Guess that's the idea of doing this.
