I think you should’ve taken a bit more time with the test photos, the exposures aren’t perfect matches so the first thing I notice is the difference in brightness and isome of the shots don’t really do a good job of showcasing any of the differences. Some portraits would’ve been better for showing the bokeh and more subtle characteristics between the two. Also the 35 1.4’s loud motor is worth mentioning because you mentioned that the focus ring is better for video but if you’re using an on camera mic, the sound of the focusing motor will be picked up because it’s focus by wire.

f1.4 too much hunting on older Fuji's, man. f2 is fast and super sharp enough for me. The money I saved buying the f2 goes into the piggy bank for my XT3. Thanks, mate.
@TheFrankm35 жыл бұрын
The 35 f1.4 has a certain quality that the f2 can’t achieve. It’s the first lens I fell in love with from the Fuji range... I miss it everyday. If sharpness is your main goal, get the 50f2 - that’s insanely sharp! FYI - I don’t think most people actually will benefit hugely from the XT3 upgrade (unless you shoot video) - check out Omar’s Gonzales’s videos if you’re not convinced. As someone else mentioned, these are just tools (no one will notice which lens you shoot with if you’re just posting online).
@lukejohnston59936 жыл бұрын
The 1.4 is crazy compact for sure. I have had mine for four years and it has been rained on while I continue to shoot many times (and I live in Tasmania so it rains here). The focus is an issue but I would accept the more languid focus and get the better rendering, extra stop of light and increased sharpness because both lenses weigh nothing and they are about the same price if on sale.
@djordan20015 жыл бұрын
Did you find the 35 1.4 to be faster on focusing on the XT3? Many people have said the XT3 “fixes” the slow and hunting focus previously experienced with the 1.4 on other bodies
@InsideSomething6 жыл бұрын
It is good to have both, f2 as a quick capture daily lens, f1.4 for the special dreamy effect. However I chose the extreme combination, f2 and mitakon f.95 :)

I'd recommend the F2 overall. The 1.4 lower than 2 aperture is just not that sharp. The 1.4 is only sharp around 4 and above aperture unlike the F2 which is sharper from 2 and above. It has too many cons to even consider buying it in comparison to the F2.
@Hightower2804TP4 жыл бұрын
Bullshit. I own the f2 version, but the f1.4 is just sharper overall from 1.4 to 5.6. That's just a fact. They are both incredible lenses still.

I’m picking one of these up today and the other factors I’m looking at is the noise between the two as far as focusing gears and linear motors and the feel in the hand. I’m having a hard time justifying the extra $200 on one stop of light and the “dreamyness” that the 1.4 is given credit for. Both can be compensated for in post.

Is the Autofocus from 35/1.4 on the new XT3 as fast as the AF of the 35/2 on the older XPRO2?
@cburakb6 жыл бұрын
schubidubiduuuu don’t think so. Af is mostly related to the focusing motors in the lens, not the body on this system, so even with X-T5 (in 2021 or whatever), f2.0 will be much faster. Remember there’s much more weight (glass) to move to focus on 1.4.
@schubidubiduuuu6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you but that was not my point. I am totally happy with the AF speed from XPro2/XT2 compared with 35/2. So if the new XT3 can reach that speed with the old 35/1.4 it would be perfect for me. I don’t need the even faster speed from XT3 with 35/2.
@AustinSchargorodski6 жыл бұрын
I have the XT3 and love shooting with the 35mm 1.4 on it. I would say it’s almost just as fast to focus on single point autofocus compared to the 35f2 on previous generation cameras, but where it really starts to get noticeably slower is continuous autofocus tracking. It definitely hunts sometimes.

The 35/1.4 doesn't have better depth of field, like the guy in the video keeps saying. It offers a shallower depth of field. Both lenses stop down to f/16, so they offer the exact same "better" depth of field at the same focal length.
@kevindreamedit2 ай бұрын
technically I feel it's so - so ... the f2 being more fast, quiet and precise in AF plus weather resistant, sounds like a lot of reasons and worth sacrificing one f-stop. But once yo uhad the 35mm 1.4 on your camera and saw the kind of images it can produce, I feel it is so hard to switch to anything else :D Even though I really wish especially for WR, living in the tropics :/

I had the f1.4 and it produced amazing fashion images, but the slow focusing drove me nuts... so now I have the f2 which has fast focusing and a much "cleaner" image whereas the f1.4 has a "dreamier" image. So if I was doing architectural and cityscape photography I would choose the f2, however for the fashion work I mainly do I would choose the F1.4 but only if I upgrade to the X-T3 (I have an X-T20 currently) due to the improved autofocus. NB: I mainly work with the 56mm F1.2 for my fashion photography but in some circumstances you just need the 35mm.
@ozuidema6 жыл бұрын
FlamencoOz Agree with your observations; what you call “dreamier”, I’d call “more cinematic”, whatever that is; some lenses (like the 1.4) definitely more have the “wow factor”, and although recognizable, it’s not something you can measure, and anyway, I guess it’s quite subjective.
@alexp70764 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I've got the 56mm as well and I'm torn between choosing the f.14 & f2 - currently using an XT-4. I'll be shooting fashion photography as well. Would you still choose the 1.4 over the 1.2 here?
@FlamencoOz4 жыл бұрын
@@alexp7076 Depends on the look you want. What sort of style do you have or does the client want? f1.4 for dreamier image, f2 for cleaner/sharper/clinical image. Some of that question also depends on how much post-processing you would like to do. If you are big on Lightroom and processing then maybe f2 is the better option since you'll get the sharper images and can give it the "look" you want in post processing. PS: This will sound superficial but I'm not big on how the f2 physically looks, I don't know I feel like clients may get the idea it's not "professional" if they don't know any better. The F2 just looks like a portable travel lens.

Which one is better Fujifilm 23mm f2 vs 35mm f2 ?
@boranakin7106 жыл бұрын
shihab c It dependa on your preferences, both are wonderful little lenses with the WR -I just got the X-T3 2 days ago and the little 35mm F2 is always stuck on it! Amazing combo with lightning fast AF, and can even shoot in heavy rain. I think the 35mm would be better if you want to do everything with one lens in mu opinion, because it is wide enough for showing context in street photos, and still long enough so that you can shoot portraits without sticking the camera in people's faces and also getting distortion. However, others swear by the 23mm, and the X100 series are fixed at 23mm as well and highly regarded. So maybe try to look back at the photos you've taken and see which focal length you tend the most towards. Cheers!

The 35mm 1.4 was released in 2012 and the 35mm f2 was released in 2015. They added WR in the newer one. Fuji is shafting its users and forcing them to buy both lenses, eh? I know what you mean. I felt shafted because Fuji released an XH1 which had IBIS, and then the XT3 which does 10 bit 4:2:2 and supports 4K 60FPS, and then released the XT30 which is so small and cute. I was "forced" to buy all three. Totally screwed me over. Fuji has no respect for its consumers by continually to improve and make better and better shit. I hate them. I hate them so much. Idiot.
