I remember this exact day. I had only been working at the Loop for a few months. I was assigned as Brakeman that day, and I too was in awe of the Shay. It was the first time #9 was running during the 2018 season. I felt so flustered when I was asked to yell "All Aboard" in front of the camera. Steam locomotive #111 running most days in summer 2019. I'm so glad that the Fernweh family had such a great time, and I hope that they come back to ride again.

This is a significant railroad. It connected Denver and the gold mines. It was necessary because it covers a 4% grade increase by looping on itself. Beautiful Anytime of the year but Christmas is special because of Santa riding on the train.

I highly recommend doing this if you're in the area. I got the ticket that included the mine tour which was also very interesting. I've stayed in Georgetown once to summit Grays and Torreys Peaks and again to get Mt. Bierstadt. Getting a 14er is always more fun followed by a warm shower, a cool room and some good restaurant food.

Do you remember if you purchased the coach or parlor ticket for this train ride?
@FernwehChronicles6 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudine, we bought coach tickets. Which is probably what’d you want in the summer time, even the conductor said that he’d much rather get coach than parlor because of the view due to the carriages being open and semi open, you can freely move between the semi enclosed and open carts which are both coach. Come winter we’d definitely go with parlor though 😉

crazy good photos/videos...what camera is it....i got to know.....you are good.....😇😉😊🙂
@FernwehChronicles6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 🙌🏻 I mostly use the GH5 with the metabones adapter and a variety of Canon lenses for the on-the-ground work. Sometimes with a glide cam but mostly handheld for the sake of speed. The in-sensor-stabilizer on that camera is nothing short of amazing for running and gunning. In the air I used the Phantom 4 Pro on this one.
@warringalice39806 жыл бұрын
just killer shots. i bought the canon 80D about two months now. use the 10 to 18 lens, but still get a lot of shake, too much really. want to get a glide cam. but fear the all that weight. but i will need to up my game if i want to get to your quality. it hurts watching your videos they are so good.....
@FernwehChronicles6 жыл бұрын
That’s a nice camera setup you have there. What might help reduce shake is to slap on warp stabilizer in post, but make sure to bring the overall strength from 50 down to around 20. Other than that, glidecam, slider and tripod. But in the end of the day the more gear you have to pack the less likely you’re going to get out there and get the shots and tell the story in the first place. I just ordered the Ronin-S which I hope will replace a bunch of the other tools. I’ll keep you posted on that.
@warringalice39806 жыл бұрын
keep debatting on getting a glide cam or gimble.....buddy has rohnin 2v for 400 but can not justify that money yet....and the overall weight will go up to about 6 pounds....hard to carry for day of adventure....kind feel like selling the 80D and get the 50M mirrorless canon with 22 prime. weighs about half.....more money.....
@FernwehChronicles6 жыл бұрын
Keeping things light is really key. That being said stabilization is also nice, but not always necessary. I'm waiting for the Ronin-S to arrive which is out for delivery right now! I have a GlideCam but don't use it a lot due to the size and weight restraints, I'm hoping the Ronin will go places with us!

Quick question... isn’t this illegal to fly a drone in that area because of the national park aspect? And you are flying over people?!?!
@FernwehChronicles5 жыл бұрын
Sure thing, the definition is to not fly directly above crowds of people but I don't see where I was doing so and you're absolutely right, you can not fly in National Parks, but the closest is Rocky Mountain National Park which sits about an hour north of Georgetown.
