Was listening to this whilst typing up an assignment for my business apprenticeship (as I always need some form of noise in the background to help me). Some of the points made in this actually were so useful for my assignment which wasn’t the plan but absolute bonus. Great podcast 😆

I am so happy that you're giving your sister this platform. I have been struggling with a range of hormonal issues since I got my period at 11/12, with symptoms just becoming worse and worse over the years, I am finally in a space where I got a functional health practioner but am still looking for doctors/gynacologists that know about PMDD, and estrogen dominance and the different versions of PCOS. You gotta think as well women have not been included in medical studies, until the late 90s. Even for drugs developed for female issues were tested on men! I had the same experience with so many doctors and nurses downplaying my symptoms or blaming it on stress or just letting me go home even though I was pain.

Omg I can so relate, I suffered from extreme period pains since I was 14 years old. I am traumatised of period I got an implant at the age of 24 just to avoid period pain. I remember in highchool my mum picking me up from school every time I came on my period. Every time I was out I would run back home if I saw that I was on my period. There was times as a child I would vomit on public transport because of the pain I couldn’t make it out. The amount of times ambulance used to come to my house and take me to the hospital only for doctors to turn around and say it’s just period pain or urine infection. I googled when I was 18 endometriosis but GP told Me nooo it’s not that. after watching this I really think I do have endometriosis. I will mostly definitely be going to my GP ASAP. I haven’t chased it up only because i have an implant so I haven’t been in pain. Doctors are really messed up towards young woman who come in with abdominal pain.

It took 14 years for doctors to actually find endometriosis. I had all tests done and conclusion was, you are fine, painful periods are normal. I used to take painkillers all day and night and still whine from pain. I was infertile as well. Last year a doctor took my pain seriously, did laparoscopy and found grade 4 endo. After surgery I wa pregnant within 3 months and have a beautiful baby daughter now. Ladies, please neveg stop insisting on more checks more tests more more more if they dont find anything. Stand up for yourself and dont take anyone reducing your pain to you being a sissy and cant tolerate ‘mild’ period pain ❤❤❤

And then you hit your forties and from there every symptom you have you are told it must be due to perimenopause/menopause. I have lost two friends to ovarian cancer whose symptoms were dismissed on multiple occasions by multiple doctors, until it was too late and they were stage 4 and terminal.

Omg this happened to a friends cousin. Went multiple times to the Dr & they ignored her, by the time they took her seriously it was too far gone. She spent her 21st birthday in hospital dying 😢😢😢 do Dr's think we go to see them for fun? I'm sorry for your loss xx
