I have a long heritage with GA, I am 72 now and still have lots of fond memories growing up and living here. I have lived in a few other states, and drove an 18 wheeler across the Nation. Always came home to GA. I will die here like most of my relatives. Loved the trip. Peace

My mother in law came from Whadley Georgia. Now I know why she not only had a huge heart for others, but wanted to move back home from New England. She taught me to cook those wonderful dishes and loved me like her own. Thank you Miss Morine 💞

Amen to that. People in the South are just more friendly and Very talkative and love to make people feel comfortable. Speaking as a Georgian. We want people to feel comfortable and part of the group. That’s why we’re so friendly and we like to talk and yes down in the South we take things a little slower than up north. But most true southerners have a big heart and will do anything to help you.. 💯 ❤️ 🍑 We will open our home up and invite you to have some sweet tea and talk with us..

Georgia is a beautiful place. I was born and raised here. Not only does it have a ton of natural beauty, it also has a lot of beauty in places like Savannah or Augusta. My favorite part of the nature here are the pine trees and the lakes as well as the Golden Isles on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, while my least favorite part of the place are the cudzu vines. They're strangling our region's natural resources.

I can assure you there were never "successful negotiations" with the native Americans. The negotiations were done at gunpoint.

Does GPB not have the rights to use "Georgia on my Mind?" There is silence during the intro and outro of this show.

Great Question! While we do have rights to use the song on television and our website, we do not have streaming rights to it so we mute it for the KZbin version. To view the unmuted version, check out our website at gpb.org. Thank you!

Byron Herbert Reece is just one of my hometown’s local legends. He and his family lived in the Choestoe Valley at the foothills of Blood Mountain. His actual homestead was covered in the 1930s by Lake Trahlyta in Vogel State Park. Gold was originally discovered in Blairsville in 1832. The result of this is devastating because it was deemed necessary by the village forefathers to make the Cherokee leave their homes by force and go west. Then huge plots of land were given to the white man…. The history is long and can be read in the Old Courthouse on the square. It’s not pretty. But it’s history and shouldn’t be forgotten. I was raised surrounded by Blue Rock mountain, Buzzard Roost and Blood Mountain . I love my home. And will leave this earth buried in our family cemetery with my brother, parents and grandparents. Today, it’s a city and I’m not fond of the crowds of tourists. I get that it’s necessary to a point but I miss the quiet days when this small town wasn’t even on the map. My heart and soul are forever lost in these mountains. ❤️

There is racism everywhere. Saying this as a Black woman from Georgia. Yes, GA has a painful history but so do other states and countries.
