I was literally just at Maxwell today and was quite bummed when I saw their stall there was closed but yeah, my colleague had just eaten the fish and chips at the tanjong pagar location. Quite chuffed that it's still around. Will probably swing by tomorrow since I've been looking for a fish and chips place for a bit... Edit : yeah there used to be the best bangers and mash at old Zouk. Which was frankly my favourite club. That place was legendary. Sad its gone now though.

Aahh, so that's where they moved! Will drop by there sometime! I actually got to know this place when I was an video editor on a local TV show featuring them when they were at Maxwell, and decided to try it myself, and I loved it ever since! About the only dish that is not quite my cup of tea in their menu is their bacon and chip butty, which can be a little bit too salty for me, but other than that their beef stew looks great! Now I can't wait to try their new fish and chips!

I'll give it a try. When i was in Australia, their fry was covering the whole plate which was bigger than this and the big fried fillet was right on top of the fry. Then i realized, that's is the real fish and chip. In Singapore, we have fish with chip. 😅

Lad & Dad is probably serves Fish & Chips in Singapore. Meanwhile, I am still looking for the best which I ever had in Queenstown NZ. They use COD. The potato & butter is perfect. Aaaaand.... having it with the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world - Cloudy Bay (Marlborough NZ). I remember, I had food & drink COMA. 🥰🥳

Thanks for the recommendation! I love British food, from my days studying in the UK. Pub food's the best! When I get the cravings, I usually go to the restaurant near my home, it's called Rabbit Carrot Gun, along East Coast Road. They have really truffle fries too! Maybe you can do a food review there next time! :)

We went to try Lad Dad this evening thinking we could try some of their signature items. But to our disappointment, they have sold out many of their signature items. So we ordered fish and chips, onion rings and fried oysters. Their food is ok , their frying technique is pretty good with the crunchiness and the fish is still moist. However, if you are not prepared to have outdoor seats + hot + humidity + loud music, then this is not a place for you. Even tough they are located in a shop, be prepared that this restaurant concept is totally a self service hawker style. Do not expect smiles and nice words from them. We didn’t know that there was a self service sauce system since we can’t see it obviously. But rather being explained, the tone from the servers were pretty harsh onto us expecting that we should have known this rule. I just assumed maybe today was such a terrible hot day and everyone was too tired. Nevertheless, Georgia, thank you for sharing your experience and promoting the local business! I look forward for other reviews!

@@kelvotan213 There were many more good places many years ago but they've mostly all shut down. If you really like F&C, try going to a seaside town, the chippies tend to be much better there (except for maybe Brighton seafront, too touristy!).

You can try the “Barramundi & Chip” at RIDERS CAFE at 51 Fairways Drive (286965). Their fish are quite thick also and load of fries.

You have to give British Hainan in Joo Chiat a try. It’s a restaurant that’s been around for decades and serves a unique blend of Chinese Hainanese and British food like oxtail and beef stews, fish and chips, and Hainanese pork chops! The owner, Uncle Fred, is also a really unique guy!
