True story. I pretended to have a hart attack once to see what my cats would do.... Turns out run and hide.... Then days later I legitimately choked for a moment and they came running with what can only be described as concern on their faces... My best guess they thought I was kicking out a hairball.... @@GeorgiaDow Two cats that I have at separate houses one at my dads and one at my moms both come running and will curl up with me whenever Im having a panic attack about something or am really sad. The cool thing is that they’re both black cats which makes you wonder if something in how black cats are bred in the past has something to do with the potential caring of these cats. My dads black cat will actively meow at people who are getting upset she just wants them to not be in distress. My cat at my moms will actively try to provide physical comfort to me whenever I’m feeling down. And will actively sleep with me in ways she wouldn’t normally do when I’m not upset. It's actually really creepy when you really look into Perrito's path on the map. The first obstacle is called 'pocket full of posies', which is in reference to the nursery song 'ring a ring a roses', which is about people dying from the black death. The second obstacle is the river of relaxation, which is not only a reference to when he nearly drowned, but the relaxation is a reference to the idea of a soul goes to rest after the body dies. The final path is the field of quick and easy solutions, which a 'quick and easy solution' is often referring to suicide being the easy way out of misery. Deep down, he really is still hurting from being rejected from the people he called friends and family throughout life. Perrito is most likely using his dreams of being a therapy dog to not only distract himself from his own hurt and trauma, but also as an outlet for others so he can find purpose in what is a nearly pointless life he had lived until he met Puss.

I also don't think that the pocket full of posies is quite as innocent, considering that roses are associated with slowing down to smell, while poses were used to disguise the stench of people who died. This is just my interpretation though, I can very well be wrong.

I do like that there is an exception to Perrito's optimism/ belief in people: And that's Big Jack Horner. After meeting him once, he's not like the ethical bug who keeps digging for good. I hate to be the one to say this, but I just can’t help to notice it Perrito’s path to the wish is surprisingly dark: 1) Pocket full of posies is a line in the children's rhyme, "Ring Around the Rosie" and refers to the Plague. Posies were carried to help combat the ever-present smell of sickness. 2) The River of relaxation refers to the river he almost drowned in 3) Quick-and-Easy Solutions… some people may also call this “a quick way out”

Perrito is how you do a comic relief supporting character without making them annoying. First, they never have his comic relief undercut the serious emotional moments. Second, he's vital to the protagonist's character development (and an antagonist's character development, too, with Goldi). And third, his happy-go-lucky attitude reinforces the overall theme of the story - appreciating what you have.

There is one thing i think is wrong about this is, Perrito isn't naive. Perrito knows exactly how bad his life has been, he knows his first "family" tried to kill him, he knows the sadness of being alone. From the way he tells the story of how he got his sweater it is clear that it, if not still at least at one point it did hurt him, he just decided to channel the hurt and sorrow into what he needed, someone to listen to and to help dealing with the pain. Because as someone clever once said: "Who you are today, is the one you needed when you were younger."

She had a bad life as a stray, lost her puppies, her tail was chopped off and you can see it was a hack job. And one day I was having a horrible panic attack in bed and she just climbed on top my chest and laid down. She even started licking my face. I had just lost my childhood chihuahua and we got Sophia quite quick after the fact, so i was going through periods of not being the kindest to her in my grief as she was learning how to be a pet, but she knew just what to do and it calmed me down. She didn’t know how to sit or stay or play with a freaking dog chew toy (which started the panic attack as I had a massive grief episode) but she knew how to give love and that was the most important thing. I just love how kind and lovable perrito was made out to be. Perrito definitely did chihuahuas Justice.

It might not feel as fulfilling as having them be close, but they can certainly make things a lot easier. I haven't see the movie yet but it's not hard to figure out from these videos...as I'm coming into this one I'm seeing it from the point of view in having a friend I hang out with regularly who has an actual mobility assistance and emotional therapy dog (he's a bit of both) named Ludo. He's an English mastiff (yep, big boy...at 200 pounds it's hard not to say that as "massive") and is one of the sweetest dogs I know, not only a dog my friend can lean up against because of her bad knees (she also uses a cane) but, in stressful situations, he also knows to lean against her when her PTSD rears its head. One of his more useful (both to her and for me) is that he loves using his enormous head like Perrito uses his belly...he senses that you're upset or just need some affection and plops it down near me and, with looking up with his giant loving face, I can't feel bad about anything...his big brown eyes and incredibly soft ears make me forget my worries.

Edit: Just to let you know, this comment is longer than most comments, and it talks a lot about the themes of the movie, as well as me opening up about my own personal experiences, if you read it all the way through or not, thank you, and have a good day/night. Honestly, in hind-sight after seeing this and having already watched the movie- I only just now realized how much I related to the two canine characters in the film- Perrito, and Death- Which in a way, kind of makes sense, when you think about it, both of them sort of have the same outlook, but from two different points of view- Death is a lot more aggressive and pragmatic, because of course the reaper isn't exactly an "innocent optimist", but he firmly believes that people should focus on what's really important and value and savor their lives, to make the most of it, since life doesn't last forever, and whether he wants to or not, Death comes for all. While Perrito is almost the film's voice for Life itself, and how to overcome all of it's struggles, he's not just full of life, he practically IS LIFE from a thematic perspective, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if that were intentional from the creators, as he almost perfectly mirrors Death as a character in everything from demeanor to design- Death has a lot of sharp edges and dark colors in his character design, from the edges of his scythes to his angular cloak with a lot of blacks and greys, while Perrito has a lot of round shapes in his design such as his belly and big blue eyes, and speaking of eyes, even their eye colors are flipped, with Death's piercing red eyes contrasting with Perrito's big blue eyes. And while they're almost opposite the one thing they have in common, is this common belief that life should be sacred and savored due to how brutally short it can be, and they both try to teach this to Puss in different ways- For Perrito, that's by showing Puss all the great things in life so that he can live a worthwhile one. And for Death, it's by showing Puss the error of his ways, and whether intentionally or not, effectively teaching him to either make the most of what he has, or regret having wasted his life away in his final moments. You could even say that Perrito is everything Death would admire and respect in a person, it's now even my own head cannon, that when Perrito was down in that river drowning, just like Death bent the rules to try and reap Puss for wasting his lives, he may have just bent the rules for Perrito, because he saw someone who truly deserved to live a worthwhile life more than others, and refused to claim him that day. But I digress. I can personally relate to both, having been a lot more naive when I was younger, but I hold my optimism, albeit in a realistic light, there are psychopaths, anti-social people and toxic people who will likely never change in this world. But I hold the belief that it's far healthier to assume good intentions from people until there's proof otherwise, as not doing so realistically just leads to a path of paranoia, misunderstandings, and pain. I can also relate to Perrito a bit too directly on the whole "Being too good for people to believe" thing, and that's not a brag, it's a legitimate problem sometimes, since there are often people who have been through the ringer so much, that the idea of receiving kindness from someone, let alone without expecting anything in return, is literally something they can't process with the life they've had, and I understand that, and similar to Perrito, I'm currently considering becoming a therapist to help people like that, I've seen it in friends, family, my love...there's a lot of pain in this world, and from my point of view, optimism isn't a denial of that pain and negativity, but a healthy acceptance of it, as there may be a lot of things wrong with this world, but ruminating on it won't make it better. I hope that one day, those who don't have love will find it, those that can't process it will one day accept it openly, and those who have been hurt may be able to share their scars with the world to help others. It's a lot, but at the very least, a small difference will still be a difference- And the world is like a web, where we're all connected no matter how isolated, if depression and mental illness, and loneliness can become epidemic, then I hope one day we, or our descendants, can make happiness, peace, and community epidemic instead.

12:30 this part really had me thinking about my life my whole belief system came crashing down when I was 13 and I had to reform it and it feels like that’s how things keep going for me all of my worst fears (aside 1 and gods forbid it occurs because I will be done ;by then my optimism can only go so far. )have all happened to me. So I reform my world and understanding of it each year and lose trust in people due to that as time and again those people have shown me they can’t be trusted. I’m still very trusting and optimistic but my tolerance for being betrayed is thread bare you get one chance and that’s it.

I have never seen this movie but It's amazing they could put a comic relief character in and he's actually a cool character. Like sure he's an idiot but he's an idiot who wants to help people and I love that.

When you talk about care takers i think of the episode of Sponge Bob where Gary (Pet Snail) gets him an abrasive side which makes him very well abrasive/stand up for himself. It is hilarious. You get this duality of the nice guy and then all of a sudden this very forcefully independent personality comes out.

Georgia, your video has made me realize 2 things. 1, I have 2 cats who already have the love and care aspect of therapy pets, they love hugs and cuddles and being around them, even just in the same room makes my day better, all they need is the actual training, they don't like strangers, they're easily spooked, and they do prioritize stuff like food and water over calming anxious and panicking people, but they're young and learn fairly well, so all that requires is a professional trainer and they can be fully qualified in no time! and the second thing is, I'm a bright and caring person. your video has made me look back and see the brightness leeking through the surface throughout my life. I'm bright and caring at heart, but ive been hurt so much that I subconsciously try to bury it and I'm not very good at that, only those who don't actually try to look further than the surface will be fooled by it...I'm usually fooled by it myself, but then again, most people are their own worst critics, including me, but looking back, I can actually see it and that's honestly hard for me to accept.

This really was an amazing movie all around, and I loved Perrito! The lessons about mindfulness are so important. And hey, even if I'm struggling with people in my life who have... some fairly negative expectation templates, I really just... can't let that pull me down to their level. At the end of the day, it is, and will continue to be their loss. I've tried for... many years to help them move on from that, but they have no interest in budging, despite being in a pretty darn peaceful, pleasant environment now. They can't see the peace through a lens other than their learned wariness.

I'm disabled, my dogs are by no means trained therapy pets, but it's like they are just natural at it? They always know when I'm in pain or having an anxiety attack, a seizure anything distressing. I have sleep seizures my dogs sleep both sides of me so I don't fall out my bed, hey cuddle me when I'm having my anxiety attacks or writhing in pain. Not sure I'd be able to go day by day without them

I relate so much to Puss's Thanatophobia. I'm diagnosed with a lot of disorders and my deep constant phobia of death is kinda mixing itself with my other mental illnesses. It's hard to explain. But this movie is heart warming to me because as a grown up guy in my 20's I feel bad because everyone in my childhood made me feel like I wasn't legit to talk about vulnerable insecurities of mine. My parents for example were telling me to stop ''acting'' and ''throwing a trantrum'' because it's making them look bad in front of other people and I make them feel ashamed so I've always thought that I was just exagerating things and I was fearing anything and everything and some new way to cope appears (no thanks to my diagnosed OCD) which I didn't had before because I had never noticed it or it wasn't as intense as it is during panic attacks and stressfull period of time. So I felt ashamed to fear death during my teenage years and up until now but it's just not a simple fear of death like kids have, it's a phobia it's making me have panic attacks whenever I think (and I always overthink things) about the time passing, about life's fragility, about the ''heritage'' you leave behind, about the idea of future and the obligation to have projects (which I did make since I, as a teenager, had projected to k**l myself way before reaching my majority so I'm in a tough situation that's summerisable by saying: I have no future) I fear losing people, I fear the afterlife and the fact that nobody knows for sure what comes after, I fear the way I'll die, I fear the fact that I'll be getting old and probably having Life gently sending me more traumatic events for me to endure like if being diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder and C-PTSD wasn't hard enough to deal with daily. I know my life isn't interesting at all but I just wanted to talk a little about this phobia of mine anyway. I hope i'm the only one having thanatophobia here in a way because I don't wish any of my mental conditions, symptoms or disorders to anyone.😢

It made sense to me, for what it's worth. Also, I heard that we experience the passing of time with all the little things like breathing and readjusting ourselves on the seat etc so if we're putting all the attention away from our body then we don't notice as many events of that and that is why it feels like less time has passed. We just recieved fewer "time is passing" notifications in our brain.

.....Could be done! The voice cloning is easy enough...training an Ai on all his dialogue, easy....unfortunately no way of easily combining the two without the use of cloud processing. Could probably make a quick and dirty PerritoGPT and have that as webpage for people to access....its a doable project.

I have been dealing with the time thing too! Anxiety feels like it makes time almost stop bc I’m caught in an endless loop, and depression blurs it until there’s no distinction between the days. This week in particular I’ve been really concentrating and figuring out how to be in my body so I’m no longer unstuck in time, it is extremely difficult 🙃

when you said, lessons from him etc. In childhood, yes it was the happy moments for me. At the moment i have to be slave to society, work, earn money to be actually happy, because the things that feel fun for me, those require money. I like snowboarding, i like motocross, i like scuba diving, all of that requires a lot of money, and im not a people person, i dont like to hang around people, maybe on weekends, a get together, but that is it. Because for me, being around people, be it at home or in public, it actually brings me despair.

This video would be so soooo complete if it was a feat with Georgia Dow, a cinephile and a animal (cat and dog) behaviorist specialised in their body language. Besides that it was a really great video I loved it❤ If you (Georgia Dow) are open to recommandations I would recommand psychology analysis of some other dreamworks characters like Shen, Tai Lung, Po, Shifu or Po from Kung fu panda. From anime sources I can recommand Vegeta, Furiza or Son Gohan from Dragon Ball Z If you're looking for other sources than anime or dreamworks' movies I'd say characters like the Grinch (either Jim Carrey's or Benedict Cumberbatch's) and maybe other people here have ideas....That's pretty much all that comes to my mind rn.😅

Kinda random, but I'd love to see a therapist do a dissertation on Shirou Emiya and Kirei Kotomine from Fate/Stay Night. I believe for Shirou, you'd have to look at the scene in the UBW movie where he fights Archer, and for Kotomine, the Heavens Feel visual novel when he and Shirou face each other in the end.
