I have a Sub 37, Matriarch, Behringer Model D, and recently added the Akai Mini D. I like it for what it is. It’s immediate and convenient to have within the Live. While it doesn’t completely capture the Moog sound, I’ve been able to pull up sounds that work well within context. For the price, I think it’s a win.

Amazing content and comparison…I like the mood sub for most of the examples & “omg the rogue was incredible “ the mi I was too bright and too modern for me but. Can imagine it wil fit nicely alongside “Massive and Serum” type patches . I love the warmth and colour that each individual vintage synth brings to the game ..as Adrian Uttly said ..sometimes the old broken things don’t need fixing “bcos they bring new tricks and textures if/when needed”. Thanks for th multi samples ..I need to share some things with you before we launch our channel.

Thanks for the feedback, totally agree on Adrian Uttly quote! MINI D has some tricks on it sleeve though, I'm comparing mostly clean oscillators, but engaging "analog" and "feedback" features as EnnochLight pointed out will get us closer to the real thing!

I'll say this: off rip that first comparison was closer than I expected & that's coming from an analog synth nut. Now, obviously there's a pretty big difference - HOWEVER - I'm absolutely convinced my Analog Heat could tighten that up ngl - Air has been doing really well, the Jura synth genuinely impressed me

Akai’s Mini-D is based on a Minimoog, not the Sub 37 or Rogue. Also, try hitting the “plus” sign on the feedback (so it’s blue), and have the “analog” cranked to 70-80%. It’s sublime.
@MusicianParadise2 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course, this is why I'm comparing just a clean single oscillator and a filter sweep there is no way to do proper detailed comparison between those synth's! Thanks for the tips - I'm just starting to explore MINI D ! Sub 37 has a brutal feedback feature, in general it is a very much always distorted synth, I had to turn feedback ft off and lower OSC level to get to actual clean-ish waveform.
@EnochLight2 жыл бұрын
@@MusicianParadise - I hear you - and I really do appreciate your content on your channel - keep it coming! If you use the feedback feature on Mini-D, just make sure you’ve got the filter set to Classic and the Feedback shows a “+” and is blue, then ease up on the Gain and Feedback. It’s criminally good, IMHO. And that Analog knob does have a very subtle but noticeable effect (I find between 70-80% is nice, 90-100 gets pretty unpredictable).

Even there was no Minimoog, the comparison with two hardware Moogs is nice, maybe better than comparing to lots of software versions. Because no two analog hardware synths sound the same. Even if you had two original Minimoogs from 1970, people would probably argue they do not sound the same. Therefore, having more than one hardware synth gives an interesting context for the comparison.
@MusicianParadise2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, this was the idea behind my video! As I don't own a Minimoog I decided to use just a single oscillator from each synth to make some kind of "fair" comparison.

@MusicianParadise2 жыл бұрын
well, the modern filter mode is smoother somehow :) oversampling and band limiting probably too much to ask for a plugin developed primarily for a standalone hardware platform with limited CPU. Of course, is hard to compare it to the state of the art modern software synth!
@micindir42132 жыл бұрын
@@MusicianParadise It’s a quad core cpu that’s quite productive. Even single good voice would make a difference. Air aren’t known as va-synth producers, ohmforce are (their OSCs are in serum) or u-he. Pretty sure they could’ve hire somebody to code it well enough to fit this sbc. Otherwise it’s really solid plug-in, on par with odyssey. They both do a lot to make mpc synth workstation. I think automation is best part of it. Too bad baseline is “dumb” synth. A good Osc and filter models would do wonders to that one.

@MusicianParadise Жыл бұрын
If you are looking for the "Moog sound," the Behringer Model D will likely suffice. Modern, expensive Moog synthesizers offer extensive modulation capabilities, more flexible filters, and better build quality. AKAI's Mini D is a great option for those who want integration with the hardware MPC platform and a plethora of quality presets at the expense of analog mojo and some digital aliasing artefacts.However, some Moog synths, such as the Sirin or Minitaur, may be slightly overpriced.
