Been watching your vids for a while, it's a great way to hear what these synths are capable of. This new series about going into depth on specific synths is Brilliant! Looking forward to the next one!

Great video as always, and I concur with your view of the DeepMind. It's a great synth at a great price. Still use mine daily and make new sounds on it all the time. It's more of a modern analogue poly than a classic one, although you can get some pretty vintage sounding patches out of it if you put in the work. Can't wait for your next video! :)

I think your whole latter statement (and my own experience with it lol) makes the deepmind a modern classic.

Sir, May I come to learn the type of stand that you use to rack your synths? I am finding my space will require me moving vertically vs horizontally. Great Vid! i just got my DM12 a few days ago:-)

Great review, thank you. Looking forward to the rest of these. I have a question: I currently have a Prophet 12 module and some mono synths (as-1 and vermona mono lancet). At the moment I have a small key step as controller. Would the DeepMind 12 be a good controller if I want to have a slightly larger controller with more keys? I don’t want a juggernaut keyboard but I thought because it’s bigger than the key step and so cheap would the DeepMind 12’s idea be worth while? Do the keys feel decent? I really like the pads i’ve heard from it so far
@GEOSynths
@GEOSynths 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. While it's 49 Keys, it's not a very large Synth, especially the Depth, so doesn't take up lots of Desk Space. The keys are good, especially with having Aftertouch, so will be an upgrade from the KeyStep...You then get access to the great sound of it also, Sync up the Arp to other gear, it also can send MIDI Clock...it's a great choice.

Hum - I now have a DM12 (for a couple of days) and not sure if I should keep it. im finding the restrictions from a single Osc restrictive (not withstanding the 2 voice unison or p[itch shift trick). the control seq was something that made the choice, but I bought a Squarp Pyramid at the same time, which does the same kind of thing - and Im going to pick up a Dreadbox Python when there back is stock which also does the same kind of thing. Thinking of returning it for a Rev 2 (though I have Peak - and that was why I wasnt looking at the Rev 2 to start with). The OB6 is now out of reach financially (given the £600+ for the pyramid and £300+ for the Python), but an 8 voice Rev 2 module (that can be upgraded to 16 down the line should I want to) is achievable. Thoughts?? (wrong place probably but hey)

Purchased my DM12 purely from watching this demo! It's great for ambient soundscapes, I use a lot of arps and this synth can create some really complex ones(IMO) especially when mixed with the FX available. However, I would like to have seen a search by category feature which would make it easier to access certain tones as in the Blofeld. Some sounds are duplicated in other banks and there's no separate memory bank for your own sound patches but all you need to do is overwrite the sounds you don't like with your new patches which is what I do. I just wish I could "sound design" as good as you Jamie because some of the patches you've created are glorious !!

Hello GeoSynths, thanks to your demos I bought the DM12. Great synth for the price! But I need some help with MIDI, I also just got a Blofeld Desktop & connected it to the DM12 with a 5 din midi cable, (want to use the keybed to control the Blofeld) both are set to midi channel 1 but I get no sound from the Blofeld, I have the DM12 "Local" turned off & MIDI CTRL set to Cc. Any thoughts? Anybody?

Managed to eventually solve the problem by turning the POLY-CHAIN setting to OFF in the Poly/Unison Detune section and now it works.

Which of the two has the better build quality, the deepmind or the kingkorg. And which of the two is soundwise superior so to speak.

Did you ever get one? I did. I’ve seen you comment on other videos I think. This thing is insane! It’s a huge part of my measly studio, and it really gives it all much more weight than it would with any other synth.

What would you advice nowadays, a Korg Kingkorg or the newer deepmind in terms of value for money ?
@GEOSynths
@GEOSynths 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good question...The KingKorg has a great Synth Engine and can make more diverse Sounds, but the interface and keyboard are pretty bad. That said, the DeepMind 12 is amazing for the price, good range of sounds, better fx than some top of the range Synths and good interface. I'd say the DM12 is the best out of the 2, you'll do more with it.

Good, honest review. My personal downsides are, keyboard missing one octave, missing dust protection on the sliders slots, sometimes adjusting effects/processing can be daunting but that's because you've got a lot of control over them. Oh, and the output line level is a little weak (compared to my other synths), even with VCA level maxed out in Ballsy mode. Aside from that, I've got nothing else negative to say about it. This is THE best value for money analog polysynth out there.
@GEOSynths
@GEOSynths 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree, though luckily there is Processing on board to bring the levels up and control it. I'm not 100% on the extra Octave, not that I wouldn't like it, but it's quite a thin Synth, so would look weird as a 5 Octave :)

Im thrilled that the OB6 is GEOSynths personal favorite. I LUV my OB6. That said, the DM12 is a no brainer to purchase at its current price point. Its truly an amazing Synth. I do wish Behringer hired GEOSynths to program some of the basic patches. His patches bring the synth alive and taught me a lot about the DM12's expansive capabilities. To his point, its a true pad MONSTER. The DM12 and OB6 are a killer combo :)

This is a honest and thoughtful review. I have one and i agree in all points. A downside for me personal: The flashing lights. All LEDs are too bright so i masked them with black tape. The buttons i cannot mask, and they flash me like a rectangular-pulse-shaped lighthouse *flash *flash *flash *flash Like there is something important to warn me about, but i‘am just in a menu, like choosing from a list of patches. Please dear Madams and Sirs of Behringer, bring out a new Firmware reducing that flashes 😔

Pad Sound requires any waveform typically Sine, square/Pulse or Saw, per the Envelope all you really need is an extended release(or no envelope modulation and Reverb instead)... attack is used more for violin ensembles(SAWS). An example of a Triangle/Square pad is a Flute. Triangles usually more organ type sounds

Phasing LFO’s have various audible rates (HIFI), Lofi LFO’s have differing glides especially when they have only a few or down to 2 or 1 peaks/hills, stack them with OSCILLATORS = pad

Behringer should have hired better sound designers (you?) for their default presets. I went through what seemed like several hundred and heard maybe two that I liked. I wish you would include a score for build/hardware quality as well. My first impression was that the case was solid, but the sliders and buttons felt fragile. The keybed has such a short throw and is rather noisy to the point that it feels broken to me. I'd recommend the desktop version, but couldn't do the same for the key'd version just because it's so awful.

@@GEOSynths I see, it just seemed to me like even in your opinion as you said the deep mind sounded like a vst but that the A1 sounded like something in-between a vst , your lowest rating, and an analog synth of your highest rating... you did that hands thing where you put the A1 in-between. I do get that you are taking into account other criteria though...
@GEOSynths
@GEOSynths 5 жыл бұрын
My usual phrasing is "Can sound a bit VST'ish", which to me means, Processed. The DM12 can sound Processed when the FX are used as an Inserts, as the complete signal is going through AD converters...that's what I mean. The score isn't just the Sound though, it's still being sold for £1,100 and you can other alternatives for that price...It doesn't mean it's not a good Synth, far from it, but side by side and the experience of making 150 Patches with it, I know what works for me better.
