Subbed mate! We need more people like you to show us how to create new sounds. I got mine last June. (I know its off topic but..) I played a preset, something like a clap I messed about with it for over an hour then. The result was the sound of a realistic helicopter engine starting up to full throttle. I'd forgot my living room windows were open; then I heard a loud knock on the door (the volume was on full). It was my neighbour asking me if I'd got a very h large RC helicopter engine running in my flat. I told Jim what it was. He laughed and said he thought it was a real one at first but couldn't see it. Then he spotted my open windows....😂😂😂😂

Great vid and content! I also use the LFO, and drive it (almost) to audio rate. Then I key track it, and use it to modulate frequency and filter cutoff... You geat very gritty results. DeepMind unfortunatelly is very underrated by some folks. Yet IMHO what Behringer did, with the simple voice design integrated with a plethora of FX and mod options was genious.
@jakubdomine9 ай бұрын
Yep I use a similar trick on the Bellz patch if you zoom in on the mod matrix. The LFO at audio rate is modulates the VCF cutoff for a brief instant at the beginning of each note to create the illusion of a noisy metallic attack

@@jakubdomine I played with some of these tricks yesterday and find another "hidden" oscillator, maybe you already know about it, but if you modulate the noise level with a very fast LFO, you gonna have a bass sound (triangle LFO sound great for this). You can then map the key num to the lfo rate, et voilà. Additionaly, I also did the self oscillating filter trick and end up with a patch of 2 "oscillators" without using neither OSC1 or OSC2. 🙂
@dreammix94308 ай бұрын
Back in the 80s a number of different synthesizers gave you the ability to drive the filters into oscillation but at some point manufacturers put limits on how far you could drive the filters and therefore they would stop before they went into oscillation. I'd sure like to know why they decided to do that because they took away some really cool capabilities of their synthesizers
@frankstetka72066 ай бұрын
Back in the 80’s? I think manufacturers were still trying to market synths to the Home Organist market or other people who may look at having too many options as a defect.

@kaitlyn__L8 ай бұрын
Hm, interesting. I’ve only messed around with these kinds of sounds on 4-6 operator FM synths with the carriers all in parallel. But that slight waviness of the VCF is nice. And thinking about it, my big analogue(-y) has 2 oscillators capable of sines, a great resonant VCF, and an HF-LFO mode also capable of sines. So that’s 4 harmonics in parallel right there on my other hardware synth. Heck, maybe I could combine them and play in sync over MIDI for a whacking great big 10-harmonic organ.
@glenc32495 ай бұрын
I think musicians should start taking this synth more seriously as a part of their groups set up, just like they do with their Moogs, Korgs, Rolands and Yamaha's. I've had mine a year, and I've barely scratched it's surface of what it's capable of producing!.

That's a cool trick and not something I've thought of before. The Uni Voice source is very powerful. You can use it to create almost layered-like sounds by using 2x or 3x unison and modifying some parameters based on the Uni voice, or even create "binaural" sounds similar to the Super6 by panning two uni voices left and right and offsetting LFO's etc., and apparently you can even use it to do additive synthesis. Makes me think the DM could quite easily have been truly multitimbral, seeing as you can already modify a lot of the parameters individually for each voice.

Once again a great video and beautiful patches, the "sine winds" sounds very close to physical modeling (the filter resonance trick basically is (karplus strong) though but I assume you mix in noise here and it's the fx section that gives it the breathy characteristics). And yeah it's certainly additive synthesis with a limited number of partials.

Thank you! And yeah, a proper additive synth would let you layer many more sine waves and do so with more control over each frequency, but this method isn’t half bad all things considered
