If there any chance that Tom reads this, regarding the compass, in the bottom right corner of the screen, near Terms of Use it says who took the "photosphere". If it says someone's name or some 3rd party company name that would mean that somebody most likely took it with their smartphone and there is hardly any chance that compass would be correct on that one. But if it says like "2019 Google" it means that this is taken from regular Google street view and you can trust the compass there.

A tip for next time. A Jerusalem by-law from many tens of years ago requires all buildings to be covered or mostly covered in a limestone which soon became widely known as 'Jerusalem stone' as a way to keep a common look around the city. Tel Aviv (and the rest of the country) is more characterized by the buildings covered in stucco. BUT, in the last couple of tens of years, new urban construction around the country might also be built with 'Jerusalem stone' for design purposes.

the jerusalem stones are not exclusive to jerusalem at all, but when all the buildings are made of non-processed white bricks or are covered with a non-procesed plaque of a white brick and you know you are in israel, its likely in jerusalem but not guranteed. and buildings in tel aviv have a german architecture(Bauhaus) popularized by german jews fleeting germany and seeking refuge in tel-aviv,palestine during the british mandate which later turned into tel-aviv Jaffo, israel

I got a 5000 pointer (13m) ahead of watching the video on the Amsterdam round. Perhaps not too impressive but made my day, one of my best, luckiest guesses ever!

Wow you are good. I can guess from flags, I know all the flags, but looking at the patterns on sidewalks and number plates is next level.

Hi Tom! Thanks for all the videos, I started again playing geoguessr and these have been very helpful. I learned flags and capitals etc. from the mobile game World Geography by atom games. Might make these odd maps slightly easier, so a strong recommendation if you're into mobile gaming. Keep up the good work!

On the Amsterdam round I literally just clicked a random street within the first minute of the round and somehow got a perfect score. That's never happening to me again.

Got perfect scores on the first three and then didn't even put it in the capital for the last two, thanks for giving us a chance Tom

In the Jerusalem round, I first made a picture in my head of the street angles, park and roundabout. Then, I zoomed into the map and saw it straight away, probably luck. Nevertheless, I lost the perfect score in my own capital of Amsterdam... Hint: the capital is shown with a dot within a circle on Maps when zoomed out a bit.

You're so damn good at this game. I was uber surprised I just barely squeaked out above you in points on this one. 21,930. I feel accomplished beating the master.

Distinguishing Tel Aviv from Jerusalem - you see that building that looks like it's made from white stone? That is very what we call "yerushalmi" in Hebrew. Very Jerusalem.

Jerusalem has very distinct white stone buildings. They were pretty obvious in the video. Then, the buildings on a hill in the distance were likely the city center. I didn’t look hard at the compass or play along but while watching I had a gut feeling it was the southern part of Jerusalem. It helps to have been there obviously.

Meanwhile, Jerusalem was the only one I got 5000 on :D looked for streets that had the same direction, and the first one I zoomed in on had the park and side-road. Pure luck

I also got a perfect score, but I live literally five minutes from that spot, so it was kinda obvious to me 😂

I can't believe you are this good at Geoguessr and not even know the names of all the capitals. I played this game a long time ago when it was free to play and I did exactly what you did, and I was pleased with myself I was able to track down locations down to a few yards. This was probably 5 years ago (?) I think the game is no longer free but not sure.

If Tom reads this: When you are looking for a capital city on the map the marker is actually different if you hover at the right distance. Around 22:03 when you are zooming into Israel you can tell that Jerusalem is the capital and not Tel-Aviv as Jerusalem's marker has a black dot in the middle that Tel-Aviv's marker doesn't have. But as soon as you zoom in too far those city markers disappear. The city names are still there but without the marker and if a city is written in capital letters or not has nothing to do with it actually being the capital or not but only with it's size.

Managed a perfect score on the last one using the compass and street layout with the roundabout just visible to the north. Guessed Caribbean on the Sierra Leone one though, so still finished 200 behind you. Great map and video though!

That last israeli place almost surely must have been Jerusalem beacuse of the stone all the buildings were built of. There are few laws that Israel still has ffrom british times. And one of them is a regional law prohibiting covering buildings with anything else than the local type of stone. It was created to cultivate the tradition and preserve the historical landmark of stone Jerusalem. So this is why you can almost certainly pick Jerusalem right away as you see many buildings built of this specific stone. Also Tel Aviv doesn't really have so uneven areas.
