Just a thought, ditch the finder beeper and put in a gpsmate with a shielded cable then you don't have to power up and wait for satellites, you just turn on the gps first for the required time

That's a great idea, its exactly the setup I have on my 7" Foxeer Aurora, and I guess if you're going to install a powered buzzer it might as well be a GPS mate. I do get stats super quickly where I fly because I live in the mountains with no interference and that GEPRC GPS module is awesome.

really quick tip, using zip ties to hold the motor wires to the arms works great, but in a hard crash it can sometimes damage the wires, a lot of people recommend electrcal or wire harness tape to prevent that
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 4 күн бұрын
Thanks a lot for that tip! I do use electrical tape on my freestyle basher quads where I don't care what they look like, and I did switch over to wire harness tape recently. Got a few rolls on Amazon for cheap and it looks pretty good if you're careful. It's what I used in this Atlas 4 build, way better than those plastic tubes! I do care about looks when I use my quads in KZbin videos and the wire harness tape accomplishes both 🤓👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWSQZZtpmtmDjqs

Hey, awesome video. Do you think there is a way to fit the old DJI Air Unit in this frame? It seams like there is no space in the back due to the XT60 connector. Maybe it is possible to mount the Air Unit above the FC in the front and move the ESC back to where the o3 vtx belongs?

I built up the nazgul, geprc and the speedybee hd. I agree iflight electronics suck, not enough gold on their pads so very hard to get solder to stick. Don't be put off by the Speedybee soft mount, it absolutely rocks with an o3 and speedybee f4 fc. The speedybee and geprc mk5 pro are different but such beautiful builds

@@stratometer I do have a GPS Mate on my Foxeer 7" build, and it works super well, but I had space in the back so it was convenient. On this build it had to go up front, so not quite as convenient for the wiring. There is a pretty steep learning curve and I lost my first drone while I was learning (outran the analog VTX, rookie mistake that is easy to do). @colibrifpv
@colibrifpv Жыл бұрын
Good question, thanks for asking! Well, even though you have a big budget, since you mentioned that you have never flown an FPV drone before, you may want to start off with something smaller, or at least start off in a simulator first. When someone learns to FPV, there is a natural process of crashing a lot since it is very difficult, and it's better that those crashes happen on a smaller, lightweight drone that will not break, or even on a computer screen. I recommend you buy a good radio first, like a Radiomaster Boxer, with ELRS. You can use that with a simulator on your computer for a while to learn to fly. Then, once you have decided that FPV is for you, you can buy some DJI Integra goggles [ amzn.to/3Lrdd2U ] and a small drone with the DJI O3 system like the Pavo Pico [bit.ly/pavo03]. The digital image is sooo much better than analog! Trust me, you will have no problem spending that 2k budget eventually, but it would be wiser to end up at something like this GEPRC MK5, not starting off with it. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!

Hey! 1)For your first build, you might want to consider Joshua Bardwell's kit that comes with everything you need, he also has an amazing build series of videos on KZbin directed at beginners... you might save a few bucks buying the parts separately, but it will be SOOOO much easier to walk through the steps in that build series, no other KZbin videos will come close! You can get either the Analog or HD-Ready kit (you will have to buy your own DJI O3) bit.ly/JB_Digital bit.ly/JB_Analog 2) Props depend on your style and preference but you will want 5 inch, around 3.5 pitch, and 3 bladed, which are pretty standard, something like 5x3.5x3 3) That's ESC firmware, only necessary to update that setting if you run the DJI O3 Air Unit. You need to download BLHeli configurator and then you plug your ESC/stack in via usb. Like I said, you will avoid loads of pitfalls by following JB's videos. Good luck!

@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv Жыл бұрын
No worries about the questions, to be honest, FPV has a really steep learning curve and there are a lot of things that are illogical or not obvious at first, such as the fact that many DJI products are incompatible with each other, but if you have the Remote 2 (the grey joystick style one, not the huge black one, that WILL work with the O3 air unit, and you should start with that just to keep things simple[article linked below] No, it will not work with crossfire, that will require a crossfire radio module or a crossfire-specific radio like the Tango 2. As your fleet grows you will probably want to adopt either crossfire or ELRS, crossfire is super reliable but not the cheapest and often out of stock. ELRS is open source and is quickly becoming the market leader so it may be more future-proof. I would recommend starting off with DJI remote because you already have it, then adopting ELRS down the road. Here's an article on DJI compatibility: oscarliang.com/dji-o3-air-unit-fpv-goggles-2/#:~:text=The%20O3%20Air%20Unit%20includes,receiver%20like%20Crossfire%20or%20ExpressLRS.

Hi Iresh, thanks for watching! You can't go wrong with the GEPRC MK5D! As far as the weight of the GOPro, with a powerful 5" quad like this it can handle the weight of a full GoPro just fine. Of course it will be a little more agile and have a little longer flights without a GoPro or with a naked GoPro or GoPro Bones, but this quad can handle with weight no problem. Hey there, just saw your comment! If you do go GEPRC please use code "fpv5" for 5% off! if you want to buy a pre-built drone, the iFlight Nazgul is also a great option. I am partial to GEPRC but the Nazgul is a solid, proven platform with loads of people flying it...you can check out there Facebook group, loads of dedicated iflight flier out there! Basically they are both top notch, and are both arguably some of the top 5" FPV drones so there is no bad choice here. As for batteries, both of those will work. I would go with 63 1300mah, but 1500mah will give you a bit more flight time. You might get 4-5 minutes on the 1300, 6-7 minutes on the 1500, a bit less if you are really hammering the throttle. If you really can't decide, just get 2 of each, and use the 1300mah if you ever carry a GoPro. I recommend CNHL, they are cheap, they have good sales with coupon codes, and they have an EU warehouse. Yes, I think the Mark5 with the original DHI antenna will have better range than an Evoque which uses LHCP antennas, assuming you are using the Goggles Integra or the Goggles 2. I was thinking of going with the Volador and you claim that you chose this one because of the weight, but looking at both sites it shows that the Volador is 20 grams lighter. The geprc site claims this frame is 197 grams, is that correct or what is the weight you found on this frame, thanks :)
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv Жыл бұрын
Let me check on that and get back to you, but I thought the volador was heavier by about 10g (not a lot I know) but what really makes a difference is whether all the TPU parts are included, and that you're looking at the deadcat and not X frame in GepRC's website, the X frame is quite a bit lighter...

@@colibrifpv I was accidentally looking at the volador x frame, but looking at it again the volador 5 inch deadcat seems to be 10 grams lighter. The 6 inch however is 200 grams compared to the 197 of the geprc, so I believe you may have been looking at that. Both pictures include all the tpu parts. Both seem to be heavy frames, but for cinematics shouldn't hurt it too bad. This is going to be my first quad so if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated. I'm going to be mainly do cinematics, but would also just like to fly for fun and maybe do a little bit of freestyle. I am going to get the o3 unit and that will be my source of video so I need to make sure the props are out of frame which is why I'm going towards a deadcat frame.

I figured out where the discrepancy is coming from... Flyfish literally JUST released a V2 of that frame, since I recorded this video a few days ago, and it's 20g lighter than the V1 Volador frame. Basically the V1 is 10g heavier but the V2 is 10g lighter than the GEPRC MK5D. However, based on the fact you mentioned you plan to do mostly cinematic flying, you might consider a different frame like the iFlight Chimera 5. They just released a V2 of that frame, which is made for the DJI Air unit, it is a deadcat, and its way cheaper and way lighter in weight at $43 and 135g. If you're not going to be flying hard you don't need an ultra durable frame and it may be a good fit! I have the chimera 5, chimera 6, and the chimera 7 Pro (7.5), all V1's designed for the original DJI Vista systems and they are super nice, durable frames. shop.iflight-rc.com/Chimera5-Pro-V2-Frame-Kit-Pro1978

As far as your radio link, you are definitely on the right track by considering crossfire over the DJI radio. Crossfire is a totally solid choice, as is ELRS. Yes, crossfire is expensive, but who cares about a few bucks when it comes to the safety/security of your $400-$500 DJI O3 quad?? Many years ago, I jumped from FRSKY to crossfire, and the upgrade was huge. I literally went from failsafing as a part of flying to never failsafing again, and since a failsafe can cause you to break or lose expensive gear, the cost was totally justified. However, nowadays we have ELRS, which is basically just as good as crossfire (opens source = advantages and disadvantages) at a modestly lower price point. If you like crossfire, consider going with the ELRS 868mhz system... the antennas are bigger but the range is insane. Here is a module for $40, so pretty reasonable [amzn.to/42lUVVV]. In my insane fleet of 30+ quads, about half are crossfire and about half are ELRS 2.4ghz, but I use the 2.4ghz for whoops up to 3", or anything analog. 90% of people will never need more than 2.4 ghz ELRS, especially on anything small or anything short of long range (which I define as at least 1km+ out) with the right settings, but since you mentioned cinematic flying, a long range system would probably suit you best. Do your research, but you will want crossfire or ELRS. Also plan to install GPS modules in your quads. They are not very expensive and will save your bacon when you outrun your video, which WILL happen. Good luck, let me know what you end up with!

For long range flying, it's generally better to mount your antenna up front, although in the back it may be better protected, and with crossfire the range is so good that it will be the video link that limits you.
