Every Pro Team uses oil. Some may use wax for time trials but since they wash and degrease the bike every day anyway its just more convenient to stick to the known oil based lubes.

And emergency in race lubrication (mechanic hanging out the window spraying the chain) just would work with wax 😅 but for the consumer and the increase in drivetrain lifespan it's worth it

Instead of disappointment about non-waxed chains, perhaps Ollie should talk to one of the mechanic about why they are using oil lube. My guess, since each bike is power washed after every stage, they don't have time to hot wax 24 chains every night (3 bikes x 8 riders). And probably don't have time to prep 504 chains before the tour (8 riders x 21 stages x 3 bikes).

I’ve actually gone back to that era with a steel olmo 53/39 and 23 as lowest gear in back, it’s so simple and cheap to maintain, it’s crazy to think they’re now riding with a 34 cassette!!!!!, I’d like a nice Pinarello but the price is eye watering and I’ve found my old olmo is making me work harder and I’m just as fast as on my carbon bike, hills are tougher though😊

@@julianmorris9951 uumm have been using 11-27 11 speed and sticking with 50 -34 quite a few steepish hills on Dartmoor and my aging legs need a bit more care these days, but kind of get why they are using 54- 40 for fast flatter terrain and they are usually drafting in big groups, then they'd need 34 on the back to cope with some of the mountains ....tiz interesting though and lower /smaller gears on the block would make it much lighter , guess it's still trial and error , a bit like tubeless some times better but with these new TPU inner tubes it all changes yet again ....also liking using wider tyres very interesting that 30mm are more efficient and much more comfy ,which is more of an issue to my old bones.

Given all the “games” in cycling (including head games), it wouldn’t surprise me if bikes making it to journalists contained a few things that wouldn’t be run in actual competition. I mean, if you were a competitive cyclist operating at that level, would you let a bunch of strangers have at your bike while you were dozing off in the team van? A bike that you’d be running the next day (or any non-training day)? Probably not. But your sponsor might like to prep a “press bike” for marketing purposes. Just sayin…

Vittoria Corsa N.EXT 700 x 28 tubeless tyres. The more I look at my new bike, the more beautiful I think it looks. The technology and form of bikes has evolved enormously in the last twenty years. When I was a teenager in 1970, I was bicycling across Europe, staying in Youth Hostels. There is no way I would want to do any serious cycling now at my advanced age on the Peugeot or Gitaine of my youth. I hope (and God willing) to still be enjoying riding my Dogma F twenty years from now.

It's pretty impossible to get away with those motors in a race as huge as the TDF. The UCI/TDF organizers have thermal cameras and magnetic testing. Also the top stage winner bikes all get x rayed tested for motors. It would be far easier to get away with expensive untestable designer PEDs in such a large event. Motors would work better for more amateur events where there is far less scrutiny.
