I just found out about Horne recently. The way he connects the African world is amazing! Jumping from Cuba to Angola to Haiti to Texas! Great guest!

Thanks to your platform. I’ve learnt so much. Growing up in the Caribbean I’ve always loved Cuba. I read Cuba books , even wanted to study there . Love the place so much I spent my honeymoon there. ❤️

I'm a Cuban American santera, hija de Yemaya🐟🐠, living in Rome. My family is in Havana and Santiago. Trump is in a long line of sadistic American Presidents who have been punishing the Cuban people with 19th century Manifest Destiny, wt man's burden policies, going back before the Monroe Doctrine. My island like Haiti has been punished for having the audacity of telling wt supemacy "I will not be your slave!" Also Africa must be strong economically for all of us in the Diaspora. It had supreme wealth that is wasted. We in the Diaspora are like a ships with no home port and our disrespect in the New World is tied to the fate of Africa's economic condition. Chinese are respected because China is a power. Africa must get its act together for all of us to rise. My family is suffering horribly and it keeps me up at night, thinking of how I am powerless to help them.🇨🇺

Aisha Cort put into words the nuances of Cuba and being Cuban-American in and away from Cuba. Wow. I felt seen all up and through this talk with with my family’s story as it discusses The Americas: Florida, Texas, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, colonial US, Spain and France, free Blacks populations and enslaved Blacks populations and so much more. What a gift! This has been so powerful that I am having a hard time finding my words. This discussion helped me to have a clearer visions of my family’s story/history as I continue doing the research to understand the historical contexts of my identity. History needs to be taught like this! Thank you so much for this work. Any resources to help with my genealogy research, please send it my way. Thank you. I’m 35 mins in and still going.

The Popular Socialist Party, which had formerly been known as the Communist Party of Cuba [founded in 1925], and is the predecessor to the post-1959 Communist Party, not only had Black leadership but also prominent Black members. Blas Roca was an early organizer and recruiter for the PSP in the 40's. A young Raul Castro was a member, but so was a Black singer named Celia Cruz, whom Roca had recruited in the early 40's. Her growing popularity and membership in the Party got her the attention of the US Embassy in Havana.

Dr Horne, I was disappointed in this video. I thought you would tell how on how the Europeans murdered & terrorized the American Indians, on Thanks Giving Day. Instead you only talked about the usual discriminations that the Indians, Black & marginalized people! The picture of an Indians getting killed & murdered was on the first page of this video!

Si yo a Cuba le cantara, le cantara una canción. Tendría que ser un son. ¡Un son revolucionario! Pie con pie, mano con mano, corazón a corazón...

I'm reading Horne's "Counter Revolution of 1776", very historically dense and shows how African and descendants in North America and the Caribbean were political and military actors at the time and those communties were important in the geopolitics of the English settlers and European imperialist powers , and that slavery wasn't just a side issue in US indépendance.
