This song makes me remember my brother. He took his life almost 23 years ago. He loved Neil Young. Today is Terry's birthday and I'm going through my own Journey Through the Past. I love you brother and I miss you so...

Today is a very emotional day for me. I just booked a round trip to LA, from the Midwest... 2300 miles...to go to my 50th High School Reunion at Santa Monica High School... a block and a half away from Santa Monica Bay, and the beautiful Pacific Blue Ocean. My girlfriend...i.e., Common Wife of 7 years...saw Neil Young in 1974 at Des Moines Veterans Arena...during his Time Fades Away Tour. Neil performed Journey Through the Past on piano...solo, without Crazy Horse as backup band. When I bought my ticket to go back home, on a journey thru my past, I had to hear Neil sing it. Thank God for Neil Young, and his musical genius!!

When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine, Will you think of me and wonder if I'm fine? Will your restless heart come back to mine On a journey thru the past. Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Now I'm going back to Canada On a journey thru the past And I won't be back till February comes I will stay with you if you'll stay with me, Said the fiddler to the drum, And we'll keep good time on a journey thru the past. When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine, Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?

My older brother was a huge Neil Young fan. I was only a small kid when this was out but remember it well. Neil became part of the soundtrack of my life. I’ve loved his music for many years. This reminds me of a time when I was listening to music from the other side of the world and wondering about a place called Canada. I later made my own journeys in Canada, spent some time in Winnipeg, where Neil grew up. I asked my Winnipeg friends what Neil was known for locally. Riding a white horse naked through the corridors of his high school I was told. That made him a local legend. Now a legend to the world. Rock on Neil. Long may you run.

Neil could have gone the way of so many other musicians before him. But he's still here. And i thank god for that. i feel like he just knows what it's all about. Fame, drugs and bullshit never got him, he just keeps rambling on, doing what he does. He's one of the greatest poets i know of, and if at some point he's never in my eyes again, he'll still be on my mind.
