Kalugala Gerandi Ella is a series of waterfalls that fall down the Gerandigala mountain in the Kalugala area, in Ududumbara, Kandy district. This beautiful waterfall can be seen on the left side of the Mahiyanganaya road (A25) as you go from Kandy to Mahiyanganaya. This cluster of waterfalls is made up of seven parts that, when combined, reach a height of 200 to 240 meters. Only four of these parts are visible from Mahiyanganaya Road. There are a number of narrow and long waterfalls in Sri Lanka by the name of Garandi Ella which literally means Rat Snake Waterfall. The resemblance of these waterfalls to slithering rat snakes has given rise to many waterfalls being called by this name.
Gerandi Ella is a collection of waterfalls that flow down the Gerandigala mountain. You can hike to the top of the Gerandi Ella waterfall, but be cautious because of steep vertical parts. This hike is popular among travelers who love to capture the amazing shot at the waterfall. If you want to climb the waterfall, the best option is to get help from villagers. They are always happy to guide you. The water flow of the waterfall rapidly decreases during the dry season, and villagers say the month of December is the best time to visit the waterfall. Anyone can camp on top of the waterfall. It's a part of the knuckles mountain range. You can see Sorabora lake, meemure, kahelpaddoruwa, Yahangala, Mapakada lake, Ulhitiya lake, Dumbanagala mountain and more places.
