Im a carpenter but I work for a very good property management company. I Own both and also basicly have the entire leatherman lineup. I like the gerber centerdrive so much I bought a spare. And Im a leatherman fanboy so thats saying something. If you use a multi tool for what its intended for and pick the one that works for you no matter the brand youll be happy

THe Leatherman OHT (One Hand Tool) is the clear winner for me because I own one.

Leatherman DOES claim "made in USA." A contractor for plier heads moved to Mexico, but continued the same process, they claim. File made in Switzerland or somewhere in Europe, because they did it better, not cheaper. In California law they could bot inscribe "made in America," but by US legal standards in general, yes, made it America. The Gerber may have some foreign parts, too. Thanks for the review...

I didn’t know that, I wouldn’t mind paying abit extra for all US made.

Gerber Center Drive all the way!!! The OHT is Leathermans overpriced, cheap way of trying to copy Gerbers one handed opening system. All the tools on the OHT are smaller than the Center Drive. Although the OHT was designed for First responders and military, They still use the Gerber MP600 over Leatherman, and that's an old multitool but it's still cheaper and way better than Leatherman!!!

After one year with the CD, and two with the OHT, I much prefer the OHT. Better made. Yes, small tools, but this is a belt tool, not replacement for a tool chest. Gerber heat treat seems poor. Chipping metal, and rolling blade edge. No thanks. CD is a great idea, but I can't say that I encounter enough screws that regularly that the center drive is more than a gimmick. If I open my LM Surge into a straight line, I can get at many tight screws as good as, or better than the CD. But both are fine. If I had 10 or 20 or more screws to install, I'd grab a screwdriver from the big box or tool roll. The CD pliers is a bit twisty, but I don't know if over time it would distort or break or not. Metal heat treat on the CD is just not at LM standards. Of course in a tight industry all the companies check out and even imitate the competition. And they know when patents expire. Natural. You could say that all Gerber multitools are copying Tim Leatherman's original idea. That's good for improvement and competition of a healthy type.

Maybe it wasn't heat treated. There is a guy on here who returned his Ontario knife because it broke, they sent him a new knife because they said it wasn't properly heat treated. The OHT is a GERBER rip off on Leathermans part, small tools with some that I will never use. Now, I have and use the center Drive and I have NO issues with it whatsoever. I even abuse the damn thing doing things I shouldn't, I don't have rolled edges or chipped parts. The reason I stopped using Leatherman is because THEY have soft steel except for the knife blades. The Super Tool 300 is supposed to be their 'Heavy Duty' multitool, yet the handles bend and flex while trying to fix a mountain bike, stripped a Flathead on a screw, said forget it, used my MP600 a 'medium duty' multitool at that and I fixed it with no problems. THAT is why I will no longer use Leatherman.
