The Gerber LMF II ASEK (Aircrew Survival Egress Knife) is a military survival knife designed to help cut or smash your way out of a downed aircraft. Although designed by Jeff Freeman as a pilot survival knife, it also works pretty well as a heavy-duty bushcraft knife.

@@papimaximus95 I do, a sharp plain edge provides the same cutting performance as a serrated edge on basically everything besides thing where you saw. I've been using the Gerber Strongarm, both black and coyote (depends on the color of the backpack I use), for over two years as bushcraft and regular camping knives. They are awesome tools and paired with my Silky saws I really never needed an axe. When overland camping I will take a Cold Steel Trail Boss axe and a Stihl chainsaw to use if fallen trees are blocking my path. This LMF seems to be a larger version of the Strongarm and the sheath kits seem similar. I love the color of the LMF. Great review, Bryan.

It's an okay knife. I've owned one for years. The serations aren't great. The leg straps are only good for calves not thigh if you're a big guy. And If you baton with this knife it will lossen around the rubber and wobble. A becker bk2 or bk10 is a better knife just keep it lubricated

The pine resin that leaks out will seal the wounds. Gerber makes some good knives. I was wondering about carving wood with the serrated edge. I have a similar Gerber knife and I have to say I doubt the serrated edge would hold up that well cutting through the skin of an aircraft. After all they aren't made of aluminum foil. But for most other applications I believe it would do rather well. If I get another Gerber knife to add to my collection I think I will go with the Strong Arm.

Did Nick Shabazz show up wearing his Batman mask when I wasn’t looking? 😉 Near as I can tell, every knife is a copy of an earlier knife. I find it curious that people take one manufacturer to task when every manufacturer includes hundreds of elements of other designs. Or like Nick, they find one angle in the handle that is similar to another knife and claim it is a patent-infringing counterfeit. How many cars are copies of other cars? How many chainsaws are copies of other saws?

Good prybars, bad knives. That's my experience with Gerbers and I explain that to my other comment. Hope they change the bevel angles and the edge grinds. If they do, I will get another and I would suggest them to people, if not, then.... NOPE, I would choose something else. If you have the experience, to reprofile both the main bevel and the edge bevel, then it's an OK buy, If not, then you get a prybar, that really needs reprofiling to call it a knife.

@@michaelyoung5298 I know! But If anybody can pry open, a helicopter door (windows are fixed) with a knife, then he should be superman! What you said, is only marketing of the product. In reallity, things dont work like that. I used to be a Sikorsky SH-60 and Agusta bell, engineer and crew member for some years. I don't think that a knife, can pry open a door, or any knife to tell the truth. I would choose the Fallkniven F1 for the more compact size! That would help me cut a belt or something in case of emergency. Inside helicopters and plains, the room you have, is very small, so the smaller the knife, the better. Happy Christmass!!

They put some of the best heat treatments I have seen on 420hc steel. The handles are well thought out and the sheaths are great too. Now, my huge complain with these Gerbers (Strongarm LMF etc) the main bevel angle and the edge bevel, are the worst I have seen on any knife, including really cheap Chinese kinves. They could have made them as thick and as strong as they are, with a better bevel angle. If they would change that..then they defenately deserve to buy and use and I would recommend them to SWAT teams or any proffesional, that needs such a tool in urban enviroments or helicopters, airplane pilots, tank crews etc. As they come from the factory? Hell no!! there are way better knives, that I would suggest. Gerbers made in the US are not bad, but as a knife made for cutting... NO, they suck. Just my opinion.
