Tommi V. The Germans that did the hardest fighting in Normandy were the SS Panzer Division. And the majority of its enlisted men were drawn from members of the Hitler Youth. They were way more radical and willing to fight to the end. They committed a few massacre too.

First set of footage shows the sad result of the failed Operation Goodwood judging by the destroyed Allied tanks and vehicles with the captured British and American POWs. Operation Cobra would remedy the situation as the Allied units smashed through the German defensive ring. Very good footage from the German side, it was tough going for the Allied ground forces having to deal with German Fallschirmjagers and SS combat units working together as a Kampfgruppe in the Normandy Bocage. Rest in peace to the fallen.

Yes i will agree that the Americans and the British relied on their artillery heavily to get the job done but they also had the best artillery in the world at that time so you really can't blame them. You seem to be one of those "the german army was so much better than the american army type" But in reality both armies had elite divisions and both armies a poor division. For example if we look a combat experience the 30th infantry division are better fighters than the 1st SS panzer division if you look at the two times they faced reached other head to head in poor weather. you can also say that the panzer Lehr division would be better than lets say the 90th infantry division.

@I am Jean Pierre, the Evil Puppet! You do make some very good points! But by 44-45 I think the combat effectiveness of the American British and German infantry and armor was probably equal. If we take a look at what the 4th armored did at Arracourt still using the Shermans with the dual-purpose 75mm guns it really speaks for itself. I think if we exclude the cluster fuck that happened in the hurtgen the United States army fought a very good campaign in northwest Europe and by this time the german and american armies were on totally different paths and by 1945 the american army in Europe were master at maneuver warfare. I think it is myth that the Germans were 10 feet tall and the american were 10 inches tall.

As a reminder. These footages taken by the SS are mostly staged for Propaganda purposes while the Allied Tank wreckage has been knocked out days ago after combat and even scattered Allied equipments to look that they are abandoned recently. Taking a film in a real combat is different and very shaky with all those bullets, artillery shells, tank shells and airborne Allied rockets flying around.

unkown user Most Allied Propaganda Footage only took place on their home and most are staged on occupied areas, this goes too for the Germans. But some Allied Footage also recorded real battles on the Frontlines or near the Frontlines, real combat footage were only shaky and wanky. Most of the real combat footage throughout the War was Aerial Dogfights. Even American Soldiers in Training saw real dead corpses for the first time on film during the War and the US Higher-Ups took responsibility before admitting and tell the trainees to take the training very seriously.
