This must be, at the same time, one of the coolest and one of the less optimal ways to cut bread I've ever seen. Awesome restoration!
@CoolAgainRestoration
@CoolAgainRestoration Жыл бұрын

@papaquonis
@papaquonis Жыл бұрын
The reason it doesn't seem optimal, is because it's not cutting the type of bread it was made to cut. It's meant to cut Northern European style rye bread, which is MUCH denser than the soft white bread that's cut at the end of this video. I have an old bread guillotine, not quite the same type as this fancier model, but definitely a similar kind of machine, and we would never ever use it for soft white bread. A decent bread knife is far superior for that. But for dense rye bread - here in Denmark we call it rugbrød, in Germany it's probably Pumpernickel or Schwarzbrot or something similar - it's a magnificent tool, that slices perfectly even thin slices much better than you could ever dream of doing with a bread knife.
@CoolAgainRestoration
@CoolAgainRestoration Жыл бұрын
@papaquonis true , we don’t have here that type of bread. The only chance to do a nice cut is to wait until the bread will became old. But I made it another slicer 2 years ago and people told me that I succeeded to cut the bread because the bread was old and hard 🤧 now I used soft bread 😅

I got so excited when this popped up in my recommended videos! I loved watching the restauration process, and I'm so glad you actually cut bread with it to show how well it's working. I wonder if this was used in Germany when bread and food in general was scarce, and cutting very equal pieces of bread got important. Beautiful work, truly. On another note: That is one SOLID recipe there at the end!! We put minced meat on toast just like that and then put it on a grill for barbecues but your method with the pan instead is a very good idea. I'll try that!! Thanks again, and greetings from Germany!

Usually when I see these videos, the person doing them, uses stock they have left over from other projects. This way they don't just waste off cuts by buying new stock every time. It's a trade off, because sometimes you have the right metal, but the stock is a bit too over sized, so while it may seem like they're wasting the metal, they're reusing scrap metal left over. It's also worth mentioning that steel can indeed be remelted into new stock.

as others mentioned, metal can be melted and reformed

There are smaller pieces of metal that exist. You don't have to turn a soda can sized chunk of steel down to a pencil.@@WinchesterxNL

That's a hell of a job you done there. True craftsman, for sure. And it actually works well. I was wondering how well it cut and was surprised to see how well it did cut. Thanks for sharing. I like the powder coating but I like how you remade the nuts/bolts for it. Very nice touch. 👍

Восхитительно! Как вообще это возможно, что на доске стоит 29 октября 2023г и я смотрю именно сегодня?? 😮 Это какие-то новые технологии???) Мало того что это прекрасная работа, так ещё и с элементами фантастики ❤

Pretty cool Breadslicer. Today we use the rotary method for cold cuts and bread, but bread cutting machines work similar to your guillotine :)
