in germany: 1. Scooters can have max 20km/h not more (12.43 miles/hour) 2. You have to register it, and put a license plate on it 3. They only can be driven on bike roads 4. You CANT REGISTER IT IF IT GOES MORE THAN 20KM/H (12.43 miles/hour) SO U CANT LEGALLY DRIVE IT 5. If u wanna get more than 20km/h flash a custom firmware on it after getting it registered. The only issue is that if u get caught you'll get fined. Man I hate living in germany only because of the e-scooters law. Edit: Your permit will also be voided if you get caught with a modded scooter

Same for Norway. Also max 120cm length and no seats. I fitted a bluetooth trigger to switch speed limiter on/off when needed. 20kmt is fine in most circumstances, because of pedestrians and traffic, but it will feel hell a slow when you have an open road/path with no one on it :/

UPDATE: You no longer need a license to ride an E-scooter in Germany, but you must register it, have special insurance for it, can only ride it on designated bike paths or in the street (they are also prohibited where motor vehicles are prohibited... i.e. 90% of bike/walking paths), and only E-scooters with a maximum speed of 20k can be registered.... I just returned mine to Amazon. WHAT'S THE POINT!? I just wanted to ride down the sidewalk the short 2 miles to work and back. GAWD Germany is no fun! I can't wait to get back to the USA, where it is easier to own a motorcycle than a fricken tiny e-scooter here.

I am going through something like this. Hey most important rule: I miss translate the law. You do not need Tags (20kph max speed) but you must have insurance sticker, which you get at your local car insurance office, Bank, and heard ADAC OFFICE has them. I got a ticket and I think they are going to charge me for driving a vehicle (car) without insurance. Same charge as if I was driving a car. Which is BS because an eBike does not need anything and is faster.

If you think Germany is bad try UK. The only place you can ride an escooter is in your garden or driveway or someone else's private land with permission. You'll get a £300 fine just for riding it on the road, cycle lane or pavement. Here they treat it like a car cos you need insurance Tax and MOT for it by law. However you can't get that cos the build of it doesn't class it as road legal so unless you can pull some strings escooters are banned anywhere in public

Hallo aus Deutschland. Because the scooter drive only with motorpower. The law see it as a motor powered vehicle and this need an incurance and licenzeplate. Like a car or a motorcycle. Crazy but this is politic logic. But this cost me only 17 euro per year. The worst thing is , that we can only drive with 20kph maximum. But the most people drive with custom firmware to increase the speed. An e-bike for example is mostly muscle powered ,with a electric motor for support. The law see this not as an motor powered vehicle and you can drive it without incurance. But when the e-bike can drive faster than 25kph , you need an small motorcycle incurance too..

It's sooooo stupid in Germany 🇩🇪. U have to register your E-scooter. About a month ago was I was caught by police riding my scooter not even on the street but on the foot path and was funded to pay 400 euro. I ask my self, so what about the electric bikes. People use electric bikes all over. Stupidity

@@steviesteve5198 that's why everyone needs a private liability insurance. it covers everything you do and bycicles, but nothing with a motor. that is why you'll need extra insurance for every motor gadget (for scooters its like 20 bucks a year, you get a sticker that you put on it)

@@JPK1337 You do realize insurance is theft, or at best, purchasing 'peace of mind' right? It is like a car warranty, if you buy 5 years of coverage for $5000, You're betting that your car will have $5000+ worth of problems in those five years, otherwise you've wasted your money other than 'peace of mind' Basically every form of insurance works this way... except maybe car insurance because yeah, I could accidentally cause $250,000 worth of damage... but at the same time, insurance companies aren't subsidized by the government (except in extraordinary circumstances) because it is a profitable gamble. I'll likely never cause $250,000 worth of damage in my life, but I'll definitely pay that $2000 a yeah because it is mandated. Insurance companies are a racket, and they've managed to get the government to mandate their service... think about that.

Insurance is a valid argument. Too often they are driven badly, they are on the road and pavements and can run people over, damage other vehicles etc.. People should have insurance for their Bike too. I do, it is only 60 UK GBP per year and insures my Bike against theft, but also provides Public Liability for any damage I might cause etc.. It makes sense. Also, you are interacting with traffic, traffic rules and laws so you need to be aware of those rules and laws. You need some form of licensing. I live in the UK and I am British but stay often in Hollywood and these scooters are an absolute blight and eyesore. People ride them inappropriately in traffic and too often whizz around pedestrians and on pavements, shooting out and across roads and junctions to the point that it is a wonder there are not more accidents. They damage parked vehicles and are a blight on the area. This is especially the case if you are British and happen to walk places rather than drive and at every crossing have to walk around badly parked or abandoned scooters. Fines are there to force people to conform because the reality is that the majority just take the p*ss otherwise. I see no issue with the 10,000 Euro fine, after all, it is only implemented if you break the rules. I wish this was more the case with Driving Fines in the UK so that people think twice about breaking the rules and endangering other peoples lives. Too many are willing to pay the couple of hundred quid fine and the couple of points etc.. on their license but if it were 10,000 UK GBP, prison and loss of license then ONLY the hardened offenders who could not care less would be left to deal with instead of the mass of offenders who are prepared to risk it. Sorry to ramble. This is the first TTN Clip I disagreed with so you must be doing something right ;)

Wow, nothing shows the difference between the UK/EU and the US mentality more than this. "I don't like a thing so the government should stop/regulate it." What next, do I need to register my running shoes because runners are a 'blight,' could hurt themselves or others by running carelessly? GAWD I hope I die before all of the US is taken over by this mentality.

I think you make some good points. I live in Munich (where we have hundreds of kilometres of wonderful bike paths) and an e-scooter rider was busy texting while riding and hit my husband who was walking on the pedestrian path. The dude was lucky my husband is not a jerk (guy could easily have been sued) or an older person (who could have been badly hurt). The roads here are busy, so everyone needs to follow the road rules to keep everyone safe and the traffic moving smoothly. Sadly many E-scooters riders seem to not know the rules &/or care to follow them. And if they are rented, sorry folks, they are not good for the environment - that electricity comes from somewhere; plus trucks drive around at night to pick them up, charge them and put them back on the road, so the carbon footprint is not as low as people are led to believe. Ride a bike and get some exercise or take public transport (which is cheaper than renting an e-bike).

living in Hamburg Germany and I can assure you that what they do with those scooters is inhumane 😠 toss them on bicycle-paths, "stand" them on the sides of parked cars (so other passers-by can scratch those cars with the scooter's handles) drop them in the Elbe river (yes !!! 126 scooters were retrieved just yesterday), speed like lunatics in crossroads and hitting elderly pedestrians and children, that cannot avoid them so quickly, jump RED traffic lights (they try to "force" the cars to give them priority !!!!), collide between them (again for priority of way) and start fights because of this, toss them on wheel-chair-ramps and last (but probably most importantly)they SPEED LIKE CRAZY at max speeds on the sidewalks, hitting pedestrians........ do I need to say more ???.... the public opinion in most German metropolitan areas, regarding the scooters, is getting so NEGATIVE, that they are truing to impose more and more "restrictive" regulations (like to wear a helmet, to have a motorcycle licence, to have insurance for BOTH the scooter AND 3rd party damages) and they start to apply them to the rental companies too so I sympathise with you on the other side of the pond...... but you 'll eventually learn 1st hand the horror of those lunatics, if you get the numbers of scooters that we have to face here in Germany.... and then we may discuss, afresh, about your opinion about this kind of transportation....... enjoy😂

e-Scooters are different to kick-Scooters. The former is electic powered. The latter is human powered. Licencing isn't a bad idea, so long as it's not a money grab. It's certainly better than the Irish approach where they penalise users of this transport. Additionally, I feel that licencing of the rider would be far more beneficial than licencing of the scooter.
