This is their very first MV. The main vocal, Saiki the youngest, was 20, and the drummer, Akane the oldest, was 23 at the time of filming this MV. Now, 8 years later, they all are 10 times better...well, Miku (red rose) is 100 times better because she couldn't play guitar at that time. Immer wieder schön zu sehen, dass diese herausragenden Ladys auch hierzulande mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommen. :) Dieses MV war auch für mich vor wenigen Jahren die erste 'Begegnung' mit dieser Band und ich könnte nicht froher darüber sein. Diese Damen haben meine Liebe zur Rock-Musik komplett wiederbelebt, nachdem ich das Genre eigentlich schon abgeschrieben und ihm den Rücken zugekehrt habe. Und wenn ich so die Kommentare immer wieder lese, scheint es sehr vielen da draußen ähnlich zu gehen. Du wirst häufig hören und lesen, dass diese Band das Beste ist, was das Genre seit Jahrzehnten zu hören und sehen bekommen hat. Da ich nicht alles da draußen kenne und die Geschmäcker natürlich verschieden sind, werde ich das nicht beurteilen. Was ich jedoch sagen kann ist, dass ich ihren Katalog mit inzwischen über 100 Titeln auf 'Zufallswiedergabe' habe und nicht ein einziger Song dabei ist, bei dem ich das Bedürfnis verspüre, ihn zu überspringen. Das ist etwas, was ich so bei noch keinem Künstler oder Band erlebt habe. Und dass sie japanisch singen, stört mich dabei auch kein Stück. Die Qualität der Songs überwindet mMn mühelos jede Sprachbarriere. Dein erster Eindruck, dass jede von ihnen über sehr viel Talent verfügt, ist zu 100% richtig. Jede von ihnen ist eine gleichstarke Säule im Konstrukt dieser Band, und jede bekommt auch die Möglichkeit, das unter Beweis zu stellen. 'Thrill' ist der Song, womit die Damen 2014 ihren Durchbruch (vor allem International) hatten. Glaub mir, das zeigt nicht mal im Ansatz wie gut die Damen wirklich oder heute erst sind. Ich empfehle dir einfach mal ihre Vorzeige-Live-Auftritte der Songs 'Domination' und 'Freedom', falls du mehr von dieser Band sehen und hören möchtest. Und wenn du mehr über die einzelnen Damen wissen möchtest, auch kein Thema :) ★ Miku Kobato (Rhythmusgitarre/Gesang/Lyrics) Sie ist die Gründerin dieser Band und von ihr stammt auch die Idee mit den Maid-Outfits, da sie in einem Maid-Café gearbeitet hat, als sie den Entschluss fasste eine Band zu gründen. Ursprünglich sah sie sich als Leadsängerin, stellte jedoch schnell fest, dass ihre Stimme nicht ganz so gut zu der Musik passt, woraufhin sie Saiki diese Postion überließ und stattdessen anfing von Grund auf Gitarre spielen zu lernen. Gerade in den Kommentaren zu diesem Video hier, wird sie deshalb auch gerne als hübscher Gitarrenständer bezeichnet, da sie zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht wirklich spielen konnte. Als Lehrerin hat sie allerdings Leadgitarristin Kanami, weshalb das heutzutage ganz anders aussieht. Außerdem ist sie für die Lyrics von fast allen Songs verantwortlich. Ihr Auftreten, mit den Zöpfen und oft bunten Haaren, lässt erahnen, dass sie eine sehr "lebhafte" Persönlichkeit ist, was aber nichts daran ändert, dass es ihrer Willensstärke und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit zu verdanken ist, dass diese Band heute noch aktiv ist. Aus meiner Sicht ist sie eine wirklich bewundernswerte junge Frau, die weiß, was sie will und sich von nichts aufhalten lässt, ihre Ziele zu erreichen. ★ Kanami Tōno (Leadgitarre/Songwriterin) Nicht nur eine Weltklasse Gitarristin, sondern auch Haupt-Songwriterin der Band. Laut eigenen Aussagen sehr inspiriert durch Santana und Eddie Van Halen, was man durchaus auch in vielen Songs hört. Jedoch beschränkt sie sich nicht auf diese beiden alleine, sondern kann nahezu jeden Stil problemlos spielen und ist auch sonst sehr offen, was Genres angeht. Von Pop-Punk über klassischen Rock bis hin zu Metal, lassen sich hier und da alle Elemente in den Songs wiederfinden. Sie gehört sicherlich nicht zu technischen Shreddern da draußen, hat dafür allerdings ein verdammt gutes Gespür dafür, was ein Song braucht. Ihre Solos sind daher auch meist kurz, dafür aber passend zum Song, ohne dass man diesen dabei vergisst. Am Ende wünscht man sich meistens, dass es länger gewesen wäre, was von ihr auch genau so gewollt ist. In einem Interview sagt sie mal "In my mind, a good guitar solo will trigger emotions, and you will not forget it once you hear it.". ★ Akane Hirose (Drums) Ein echter Sonnenschein hinter den Drums. Man sieht sie fast immer lächeln, was besonders bei den live Videos zu sehen ist. Seit einiger Zeit schon trägt sie den Spitznamen 'Gorilla', weshalb sie sich selber auch scherzhaft als Halb-Mensch bezeichnet. Doch trotz all des Lächelns und den Späßen, sollte man ihr Können nicht unterschätzen. Ihre Präzision hat ihr schon mehrmals die Kommentare verschafft, dass sie ein wandelndes Metronom sei. Songwriterin Kanami soll sie vor ein paar Jahren mal gefragt haben, was das schnellste ist, was sie spielen könne. Akane's Antwort war 170-180 BPM. Kanami soll anschließend eine Demo zugeschickt haben, welches 190-200 BPM erforderte und sie hat es mit etwas Übung gemeistert. Auf ihrem letzten Album gibt es einen Song, der sogar die 220 BPM Grenze überschreitet. Und auch den Song hat sie bereits bei einem Online-Konzert letztes Jahr mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht ohne hörbaren Fehler aufgeführt. Im Jahr 2016 sah ein gewisser Jimmy Page von Led Zeppelin eines ihrer Konzerte und war so von ihr beeindruckt, dass er im Anschluss um ein Treffen mit ihr gebeten hat. Akane dachte, dass dies ein Scherz von allen sei. Ein Scherz, von dem ein gemeinsames Foto der beiden im Netz zu finden ist. :) ★ MISA (Bass) Auf der Bühne ist sie meist eher unauffällig im Hintergrund und mit ernster Miene zu sehen. Abseits der Bühne soll sie allerdings diejenige sein, die den meisten Schabernack ausheckt. Ihr Bühnendrink ist Whiskey oder Bier, welche man auch immer hinter ihr auf den AMPs sehen kann. Außerdem spielt sie Live-Shows immer barfuß, was ihr den Spitz 'Barefoot Assassin' eingebracht hat. Von Songwriterin Kanami hat sie nahezu komplette Freiheit, was ihre Parts betrifft, was mMn auch gut so ist, denn nicht selten ist es ihre Kreativität und Können am Bass, welches einen Song trägt oder einfach nur interessant zu hören macht. Zusammen mit Akane an den Drums und inzwischen auch Miku an der Gitarre, gelten sie für viele als die mit Abstand beste aktive Rhythmussektion da draußen. ★ Saiki Atsumi (Gesang) Mit 28 Jahren die jüngste der Band. Sie wurde von Miku 'rekrutiert' nachdem diese zu der Erkenntnis gekommen war, die Musik der Band erfordere eine stärkere Stimme als die Ihre. Und dieser Plan ging mMn voll auf. Dank der Stärken der anderen an ihren Instrumenten mag man Saiki am Anfang gar nicht so wahr nehmen. Doch wenn man erstmal ein paar der Songs gehört hat, welche stilistisch auch alles andere als immer gleich sind, wird einem klar, dass sie wie gemacht für diese Band ist. Auch wenn man dem japanischen nicht mächtig ist, ist es sehr oft ihre Stimme, welche die Emotionen der Songs zu übermitteln weiß. Außerdem hat sie eine enorme Bühnenpräsenz und weiß, wie sie das Publikum um ihre kleinen Finger wickelt. :) So, ich glaube, das sollte erstmal reichen. Awesome introduction to B-M. One down over 100+ to go. If I were you, try to start with their earlier songs and work your way from oldest to newest. The band draws influence from many genre in rock such as punk, metal, prog and so forth. You really can't go wrong with any songs you pick. They are all good. Can't say that for many bands of today. They are phenomenal. Can't wait to see them in October live 🤘

Moin aus Bremen. Deine Reaktion gefällt mir sehr, da sie genau das zeigt, was die Band und speziell ihre Gründerin Miku Kobato (Rhythmusgitarre, Gesang und Texte) bezweckt, nämlich das Publikum mit der Diskrepanz zwischen Aussehen und Musik wenn nicht gerade zu schocken, doch zumindest zu überraschen. Sie nennen es "the gap". So ging es mir auch, und weil ich von der Beat- und Psychedelic Ära und dem nachfolgenden Hardrock der 70er entscheidend geprägt worden bin (die 2000er Jahre mit Foo Fighters, System of a Down und und und... waren für mich auch eine tolle Zeit) war ich relativ schnell Feuer und Flamme, denn was mir besonders gefällt, ist neben der Vielseitigkeit ihrer Kompositionen der zweistimmige Gesang, der mir oft genug wohlige Schauer bereitet, speziell bei den ruhigeren Stücken. Die Arrangements sind für mein Empfinden teilweise ziemlich vertrackt, die zweite Strophe ist fast nie wie die erste und besonders bei den schnellen Liedern läßt sich die Gitarristin Kanami Tono, die in den letzten fünf Jahren fast alles komponiert hat, allerhand einfallen, was mich als Amateurmusiker ziemlich fordert, so daß es mit ein-zweimal hören nicht getan ist. Sie ist in ihrer Gitarrenarbeit ziemlich fleißig, andererseits steht ihr die Rhythmusgruppe in nichts nach. Bass und Schlagzeug spielen sehr variantenreich. Mich hat's also im Sommer 2018 erwischt. Seitdem hab ich ihre Konzerte in Amsterdam, Bochum und Hamburg und da ich nicht genug kriegen konnte, auch in Japan (Nagoya und Kobe) besucht. Moin aus Ahrensburg nach Bremen! leider kommen sie ja auf dieser Tour nach DEUTSCHLAND. Hatte mich schon sehr drauf gefreut. Welcome to the wonderful world of Band-maid! You just found one of the best rock bands in the world today! Thrill was their breakthrough hit song and they got even better! Misa, Misa, Misa! Some other Band-maid songs you should check out are Freedom (live), Domination (live), Dice, Choose Me, Manners, Play, Blooming, After Life or Warning! They are from Japan. This video was also my introduction to Band Maid and I felt the same way as you. Now, a year later, all I can say is stick with this group it will be a wonderful journey. Other commentors are asking for 'Domination' live, 'Play' live, 'Onset' live or try a couple of MVs that are great: 'Dice' 'Manners', 'Afterlife'...they have over 100 songs you can't go wrong.

Welcome to Band Maid and, as we say, to the Pigeon hole instead of a rabbit hole - you’ll understand later. As others say, this was their early breakthrough song & video and it only gets better from here. This is the best band I’ve found in 40 years and you’ll see why as you move forward through their catalog. I’d recommend next to check out “Domination” - official live video. Dozens of killer tracks across all rock genres. That tiny little spark plug on guitar is Kanami Tono and she is a special musician. MISA (just Misa) on bass - you’ll come to love her playing. Akane Hirose on drums - this was but a tiny taste. Saiki - lead vocals - a depth in her voice you don’t often find Miku Kobato - rhythm guitar and second vocals - band founder, spokes-pigeon (you’ll see), architect of their world domination. She couldn’t actually play guitar at this point - she sure can now - after all Kanami is her Sensei. Dice, Real Existence, Onset, Play, Sense, Different, Warning, Daydreaming, About Us, Smile, Wonderland, Yolo, Secret My Lips, Puzzle…dozens of great songs They even have an alter ego band “Band Maiko” Rock on 🤘🏼 Enjoy the ride!!

Very nice reaction. You say you like riffs and bass? You are in the right place. It's rare to find a band that features the bass as much as Band-Maid and lead guitarist Kanami is a riff machine. One thing I'll recommend is reading the lyrics before or after hearing the song. More recent Band-Maid songs tend to be very musically dense, and trying to read while listening means you can miss out on a lot. Looking forward to your next reaction!

I feel you!!! I was so tired of radio friendly generic Rock songs at some point in my life. I absolutely agree, these 2 bands are both great in their own way. Band-Maid immediately flashed me. And the Warning is really growing on me more and more. Just recorded the reaction to Dust to Dust live, and I'm already curious what I can see and hear next from them.🤘

They have come along way since this (their first video). You really need to see them live from their You Tube channel, they will blow your mind at their ability. I recommend 'Domination' Live, 'Play' Live 'Real Existence' Live or to really see their musicianship try the phenomenal instrumental 'Onset' Live. I'm 56 from the UK and seen the best. Band-Maid are the best band I have ever heard - ever.

One of my favorite reactions to the first time listeners. Thank you for reacting to the best hard rock band since the 70s or maybe ever. Well they don't play hard rock only, but their own mixed version of it. In my view Band-Maid have created a genre in their own right, I call it Happy Metal. You started at their first MV from 2014, the MV that saved them from breaking up. I suggest you continues with their next MV Real Existence from the same album, New Beginning. Then progress with the next newer MV, you will see their progress clearly. They were at a high level from the start, except Miku the second vocalist, she started playing the guitar after she had formed Band-Maid. Her progress is astonishing, from 0 to be on par with her band members in 8 years. Kanami the lead guitarist and Miku's sensei said that (2021) Miku is much faster then her when it comes to strumming and fast rythm playing :-) I found them by listening to Thrill, have a great journey.

These girls are for real and kick some serious Ass! Check out "Blooming" official music video. This one Is from several years and a lot of hard work later and is one of their best written and performed tune in their catalog with a driving rhythm section, guitar shredding and harmonies from heaven. Stay with them, they never disappoint.....this Pigeon hole is deep and will carry you for a very long time of reactions and musical joy. All their song are positive and uplifting in nature.

Yes… this is basic, entry level Band Maid. As good as this song is-and it is-it doesn’t make my top 50 Band Maid list. That statement says more about the strength of their catalog than any slight to this song. Next try “Onset” official live video, “Manners/Black Hole” live ( 2 songs in one video), and the music videos for “Blooming”, “Rinne”, and “Different”.
