In the video you see the very lowest version, no one i know would aprove it. Schamalz you can make it from variations of animals with soft fat. Like Pork, ducks and gees, was also see recipe of hare. Beef, sheep/goat or venison isn't good because they has hard fat. Than you can put spices inside, or with herbs, soft or crispy fried onions inside, or crispy bacon bits or skrin bits of gees/ducks. You can also buy the better version (boiled from the beginning with apples or herbs or onion) at discounter like Aldi or Lidl ect. My mother made it always with apples and onion. But the Flomen (the basic pig belly (edit) and back fat is very difficult to get these days even at the local butcher. A well done Schmalzbrötchen (the normal wheat bread role) is delicious.

@@Shopgirl1 i know it sounds gross when u never had it so far. But making really good Schmalz is actually pretty rare nowadays and of course not as in this video. Usually its pretty full of flavor. I watch these videos from time to time. And almost everything that is shown as typically German is just as common in Poland. Just as the cuisine of the borderland overlaps, so does the behavior of neighboring countries. I must admit that until I found this channel, I didn't realize how similar manners and customs Germans and Poles have. Greetings from Toruń 😊
