I’m glad to see in the comments that I am not the only one who enjoys a nice tin of sardines. This recipe looks great and easy to make in the field.

I have been wanting more recipes for sardines, and am going to try this one.

Season brand sardines in olive oil is the most universally palatable sardine available. Very mild fish flavor but very versatile in cooking. Honestly, the nutrient density of sardines, especially the style with bones included, are reason enough to keep them for necessity. Honestly, even apprehensive folks could get used to these. Other brands are different. Many are mushy and have a weird twang to them, but "Sardine" is a size and style of fish, not a species. Some brands use different species for their sardines, but "Season" brand [ I purchased from Costco] is the one to try, if you want to actually like them. #SeasonSardines

King Oscars boneless skinless are fabulous.

Also Patagonia Provisions has very mild, but I also second the season brand. Both for taste and price.

Season brand is absolutely delicious, as are the King Oscar brand. I have not had Patagonia brand ones but I heard they sell tinned food now that is rated well, not sure if it’s only hipsters eating and rating them however.

For everyone who likes to throw away the bones, head and tail. In long term survival fish broth is a life saver in stretching out your food supply and increasing your vitamin intake

I’ll eat Nuri sardines right out the tin but prefer them with a baguette. This frying them with onion recipe sounds interesting though

As a german, i gotta say it aint that bad. But it depends on the brand. Even adding some sort of seasoning, salt, pepper, rosemarine etc. improves it drastically.

That is something we agreed on after filming. It need some salt and pepper. The hot sauce did help.

Pour the oil in brown the onions and then add the sardines

Recipe didn't say when to add them. It was vague on specifics.

Onions and sardines sounds horrible to me but better than starvation:)

Not sure what happened. But Sardines give me unbelievable acid reflux. Not sure this would be a viable food for me.

should have dumped the oil out first then fried the onions some and then added the sardines - since the sardines are already cooked and just want it heated up and maybe browned a little and maybe to add a little of the onion flavor to them
