11:13 The Ta 183 was the design both America as Russia used for their post-war designs, the Russian MiG's used the design the longest. The Ta 183 even looked the most like a MiG.
@nerome619
@nerome619 4 жыл бұрын
only if you believe David Myrha who never interviewed any russians and then ignored the obvious differences such as structure, aerodynamics, proportions and the russian documented history. The Ta 183 was properly designed and developed in Argentina and was not a success.

@R.Lennartz
@R.Lennartz Жыл бұрын
@@nerome619 Right, the immediate post war aircraft of all the victorious countries just so happened to look exactly like late war German designs, and Operation Paperclip never happened, and the Russians didn't build what was basically a copy of the Me 262 (Su 9, 11 and 13), and a copy of the Me 263 (Mig I-270). And of course the Americans didn't build a copy of the Me P.1101 (Bell X-5), and a copy of the V1 (Republic-Ford JB-2). And France didn't build a copy of the FW P.VII (S.O.8000), which even used German 20mm guns, neither were they heavily inspired by the Heinkel Lerche when designing the SNECMA Coléoptère. And Alexander Lippisch didn't work for Convair after the war and was instrumental in designing their Delta wing fighters, and Hermann Behrbohm didn't work for Saab were he made important contributions to their delta wing aircraft. Right? And one more thing; the Argentinian "Ta 183" that you mentioned, which was actually called the Pulqui II, was built in a country with no history of jet development, none of the required tooling was available so it had to be entirely hand built, only had some issues because of the unavailability of the intended engines, which resulted in the aircraft having to be significantly redesigned. Before the aircraft had undergone the required amount of testing, Argentina experienced a financial crisis in 1953, which led to the termination of the project. The fourth prototype actually saw combat during the 1955 coup. The new Argentine government was impressed by it's service and tried to continue development without Kurt Tank, intending to mass produce the aircraft, but by now it was 1959 and the design was already outdated, and they settled on purchasing F 86 Sabres from the Americans. When the technologically advanced enemy you just defeated leaves you with tons of their research, you'd be a fool not to use it to your advantage.

Hard to find such well made videos like this. My favourite would have to be the Ta-183, it was a well thought out design, applying novel solutions to the inherent problems that jets with it's layout experienced. It's control surface configuration was very interesting, using it's ailerons for pitch control and the horizontal stabilizer control surfaces for trim. It would have presented high maneuverability and great level flight speed at combat and optimum altitudes. Really like the Horten IX aswell, another unorthodox design with promising characteristics.

The last model representation is a dead ringer for Glamorous Glennis, Chuck Yeager's first aircraft to achieve Mach 1. The He 280 was the one that got away for the Luffewaffe. It was no comparison to its successor Me 262 but if the resources was given, it probably would have been operational in mid- 1942 and would have served perfectly for the gap between the Fw 190 and the Me 262.
@mrrolandlawrence
@mrrolandlawrence Жыл бұрын
indeed something i never understand either. the He280 was not as good as the Me262 agreed, but could have been flying a lot sooner. Could have been useful there. Thankfully for the RAF, hermann was off his ass on morphine by then on a regular basis.
@schaerffenberg
@schaerffenberg Жыл бұрын
@@mrrolandlawrence What most investigators fail to understand was that the He280 experienced numerous unreliability problems that forever kept it from mass-production. Heinkel did indeed strive to overcome these deficiencies, but never could solve them all. The Luftwaffe brass was wise not to waste very limited energies, resources and, most important of all, time researching and developing this cutting-edge technology. As such, the earliest jet fighter that could have reached production status and was far more reliable than the He.280, was, after all, its more famous and certainly superior Me.262..

The first me262 had a wheel in the tail. It wasn't till later they started useng a tricycle, a wheel in front. and the problem for the me163 was that it was too damn fast, and only flew a very short time, so at one time the germans tried what was called: "The Jazz Music"! A number of cannons pointing upwards, so that the plane only needed to fly under a possible target, and the shadow would trigger the guns! I think only a Liberator bomber fell victim to this weapon, but it mostly dissolved!!!

But I do have an open space for a 4.2 Jag, when Britain still made beautiful cars... ;-)

The Ohka and the J8M were not jets. They were rockets. And as the Caproni was more of a ducted fan engine powered aircraft, it really cannot be called a jet. Particularly as a conventional aircraft engine was used to power the fan.

At 23:40, in 1948-50 or so a "missile with a man in it" toured the USA. It was very similar if not identical to the "Eber". It was on a small truck trailer which has one side flipped up. It had a sign on it saying " Russia's Secret Weapon." I saw it myself and got on the trailer and touched it. It looked real. But I was just a kid. It was almost identical to the Eber .

Swept wings were developed independently by NACA prior to American intelligence analysis of German swept wing technology. The ME262 used swept wings to balance center of gravity on the aircraft, but got a higher top speed as a byproduct. Unfortunately their lack of high temperature metal alloys gave their jet engines a life of only 10 hours. The German delta wing design used ridiculously thick wings that the Americans showed postwar would never exceed the speed of sound. That’s why all supersonic fighters today have very thin wings. The Germans were highly creative and developed amazing technology. Unfortunately for them, the Americans had a powerful manufacturing capability that exceeded anything anywhere else in the world. The Brits gave us the cavity magnetron and MIT radio lab developed it into microwave radar. We got all the Jewish German, British and Italian scientists that the NAZI’s chased away to augment our own powerful cadre of American nuclear physicists and developed the A bomb. We also mass produced 105 octane aviation fuel that gave the P51 more horsepower than the ME 109 even though it had a smaller engine. Resources and better deployment of resources defeated a fanatical and clever enemy. Let’s thank goodness for that, or we would be dealing with an entirely different kind of Germany and Japan. Of course here in the second decade of the 21st century we may be experiencing 1930’s redux. Let’s hope we don’t have to have millions killed again to defeat fascism all over again.....

Forgive me, but the aircraft shown as the Focke-Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein is actually an IAe.33 ¨Pulqui II¨ (IAe means ¨Industrias Aeronáuticas del Estado, in Argentina). It was, in fact, a further, highly evolved and refined development of the Ta.183 concept developed by Ing. Kurt Tank, in conjunction with the Argentine design team formed by the engineers Norberto Morcchio and San Martín, as well as a large team Argentine / German, in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Anyway, very good material and video!

At 3:22 there is a plane called DFS 346 that's top speed is listed as 2269 km/h or 1410 MPH!!??? That would be almost Mach 2.... I don't believe the sound barrier, Mach 1, was broken until 1947. This information has to be incorrect..

Well a couple of ME262 pilots reckon they broke it. The Lippisch Li.P-13B which supposedly never flew but was shipped to America had test data indicating it went supersonic. Who knows. The official account is never the full story.

0:43 Heinkel He.178 was not designed to have armament, it was a test aircraft that only really tested the jet aircraft idea. It was never really discussed whether it should contain weapons or not. Although Heinkel did say if it would be chosen to become a active fighter, it would mainly have MG's for a anti-air combat role. A external tank was never tested, nor anything else aside of the flying capabilities of this aircraft. 1:19 Heinkel He.280 Was designed to be in a main fighter role and there were suggestions to night fighter capabilities. It was however not accepted at it couldn't fill in the role as main fighter as Hitler wanted. It was not carrying enough fire power basically. It had however pretty good flight capabilities, but as can be seen in the video it had the urge to tip over on it's rear which could cause a serious crash. 2:24 DFS 194 was never designed to carry any armament, it was neither designed to have any in the future either. 3:22 DFS 346 was similar to the DFS 194, never designed to carry any weaponry. It was more like the American X-1 and X-15 projects, no more then speed demons to learn about the science behind it. 3:50 Messerschmitt Me-163 V-1 was not designed to carry weapons, but actually did got fitted with 2 wing guns during late testing which lead to the next variant of this jet (4:16). Something not many people know, there are more then the V-1 and V-2 variants. There were another 2 variant and a 5th variant on paper. The last one having 3 guns in each wing and being a bit bigger and more stable during landing and having it's own landing gear that could be pulled in after taking off. It however developed into the Me-164 which can be seen at 8:33 6:22 Messerschmitt Me-262 was to replace the Messerschmitt Bf 109 with time, but being so close to defeat the Germans couldn't get enough materials and pilots to actually get this realized. It was a great aircraft in many respects, but didn't have the same armament as a Bf 109 which also was not that much slower. 10:06 DM-1 was NOT a glider, it was actually powered by some unknown power source. It did never fly at maximum speed, the speed mentioned is only a part of what it could be doing. It was fairly light which also allowed higher speeds.

So much talent! It's still evident in German engineering now - in the past 13 years I've covered 575000Km on BMW motorcycles. It is worth keeping in mind though, that other countries were also developing advanced jet aircraft during the war. By 1945, Germany, Russia, Britain, the USA and Japan had operational jet aircraft, although only Britain, Germany and the US had them on active service.

The main reason is that after WW1 and the depression of the early 30ies, most countries did not spend a lot of money on military projects. Hitler did, so there was much more going on in Germany at the time. Like the US moon landing project. They did it inside a decade wit 1960ies technology - again due to a flood of money.

My favourite is the HE162. Designed in record time and very easy to fly when the engine was running. Alas, it came too late and the majority of the few that reached combat status were lost after engine failure. It did have some build quality problems, notably in the tail, but its ejection seat was revolutionary.
