Turkish Doner Kebap vs German Kebab | Germany's most popular fast food + Germany to Austria
Subscribe: bit.ly/2NjWmzl | Make sure to enable ALL push notifications!
In this German travel video, we compare the Turkish Kebap to the German Kebab. Alex has been loving German food so far and Germany is famous in its own right for its Turkish food with a large Turkish population. Kebab is a hugely popular dish across Europe and is one of Germany's most popular fast food. Also we enjoyed the Turkish food in Istanbul on a previous series where Alex looked for the best Kebab in Turkey. He found it at Metet Közde Döner in Istanbul so when he heard the best Kebab in Germany is in Alaturka Stuttgart we had to make a stop en route to Austria.

I heard main difference between German and Turkish döner, you guys says "döner kebap", are main ingredients. Döner in Germany making with different salad, sauces etc. But in Turkey döner experts says "if you don't trust your meat, you mix it with other ingredients to manipulate customer."

Everything is optional on a döner kebab in Germany. Most people go "mit alles" (with everything on it). On top of that, another very popular variant is "Dönerteller" (lit. döner plate), which is basically just the meat with a salad and some bread as sides.
@TrueEmperio

@FBI there is, because it is inherently different made than turkish kebab. Yes the first kebab was made by a turk in germany, and yes there have been some historical records of the ottoman empire. But it is clear that there is no "one kebab". Food is different in every country due to cultural differences. That's why it's okay to say "German Döner"

I am Turkish living in Germany, and I can say you, that the Döner in Tukey is different that the German ones, and I like the Turkish one much more. But, since 5 years, Turkey started to import Meat, and since that time, I had 3-4 times a meat, which was not so good, what I know from Turkey. That sad, we need to stop import Meat! : )

The doner kebab in Turkey and in Germany is definetely different, i may also say in other european countries it tastes different than it is in Turkey. Because in Turkey they sell it to turkish people but in Europe mostly to other nationalities. in Europe it tastes more exotic with distinctive spice flavors which is served with mayonnaise and ketchup..etc. But in Turkey they never put mayonnaise...

As a German resident I have never in my life seen a Doner Kebab with either Ketchup or Mayonaise. That sounds horrible, they'd probably throw you out of the restaurant if you ordered that.

@@yavantii3615 no they don't, but they look funny at you. :-) Indeed in Germany (at least Cologne) they put other sauces like tzatzyky, sharf or joppi. In Romania they can put mayo, ketchup, garlic or whatever they have in every shop and you want.

Hey guys! I LOVE travel days! My parents set me up to love them by installing that when I was a kiddo. As a result I know what to do to enjoy these days! A) be ready to have fun and expect it to be awesome (more often than not they are if that’s your expectation) B) plan ahead when possible (there are always fun things to see when you’re going somewhere!) C) jump for the opportunities. Unexpected opportunities arrive and jumping at those rather than skipping always proves worth it! Just embrace that travel is amazing and expect it to be and it will match up! Trust me! I’ve been traveling for decades and THIS IS TRUE!!! 👍

When the immigrants Turks came to Germany beef was cheaper than lamb so thats what they used however when they came uk beef was expensive and after major supermarkets took the good parts of lamb they left the shoulders for cheap and the Turks used lamb uk 95 percent lamb is used and its better but unfortunately there maybe 6 great places from 10,000 doner restaurants which is sad

Best travel day ever was the one that culminated with me landing in Melbourne. Yes, long flight, had to clear Customs in Sydney first, all that. But, I was in Australia!!! Worst travel day... when I was young (20's) and had money enough only to take a bus. Missed a connection and had to spend the night at the Sacramento station. Nothing was open. No change for vending machines. Ticket agent would not make change. I even contemplated buying the cheapest ticket just to get change for food. The clientele was less than savory. I was propositioned in the men's room. Awww, good times..... That was my last bus trip.

Actually nobody cares. Been on several business trips this year, never had to prove I was actually on a business trip. Airplanes full of obvious tourists. Sometimes a negative Covid-19 test is required, although not a pleasure, they're easy enough to accquire. Check if a negative test result BEFORE returning (last day abroad) is sufficient, this is the law in my country. You can also exploit the transit rule (less than 48 hours in a risk country). Be responsible though. I do believe Corona isn't half as bad as our gouvernments think but I saw toddlers, +80 year olds and other obvious members of the high risk groups in fully booked airplanes. Which I think is unecessary. And be aware that beeing abroad isn't the same these days. Lockdowns, curfews and extra rules are in place and usually the local police does make sure they're beeing followed. If you're planning to go on a pub crawl in Berlin, forget it right away. A hiking holiday or a short trip to a BnB with your significant other or a couple of friends? Check national Covid-19 rules and go for it.

If you have no "ö"- key on you keybord, you can also write "oe" as well, but just "o" is incorrect. 🙂 Also it can lead to bizarre confusions with German speaking people, both in spoken and written form, when not using Umlauts. E.g.: Schlosser = locksmith BUT Schlösser = palaces Masten = masts BUT mästen = to fatten schwul = gay (homosexual) BUT schwül = muggy Bar = bar/pub BUT Bär = bear Dosen = cans/tins BUT dösen = to doze Schussel = scatterbrain BUT Schüssel = bowl schon = already BUT schön = beautiful/handsome So without the possibility to use "ä", "ö" or "ü", better use "ae", "oe" or "ue" as a substitute. Well, "Döner" is a Turkish term, of course, but the Turkish "ö" is exactly pronounce like the the German one. Best regards from Vienna, Austria!

Germans and Austrians are big into hunting game for food. When I was 17, I stayed at a family-run hotel on the outskirts of Munich. Both the lobby AND the dining area walls were absolutely filled with skulls, antlers, and miscellaneous taxidermy of things that were probably on the menu at one time or another.

The only difficulty with doner in Germany is the white and hot sauce they usually add to a sandwich. Some people may like it that way, but it is quite unusual for Turks from Turkey. Those guys made a traditional one without any sauce and it looks pretty delicious. Have a great journey!

Wait for one hour to get it? I remember its almost every few blocks along the side streets of main shopping street Koenig Strasse in Station. Its for me better than the ones in Turkey, its Germanized Turkish food.

Now I will explain the difference between two doner kebabs. Lovely Travel Beans, you are right, the Türkisch Original Döner is better. Im from Turkey but i live in Germany. In Germany many sauces, salad, cheese etc. put into doner that you cant even taste to the meat. By Turkish (Original) version only meat. Because of the Meat is so delicious. If you come to Berlin must you visit "Baba Pirzola". You can eat best kebap ever in Germany.

Tacky/odd/kitschy Americana roadside attractions are fun if you embrace them for what they are. (Wall, South Dakota & Metropolis, Illinois are examples) Are they worth a full day? Well, no. A good place to stop for an hour or two and stretch the legs? Absolutely. (That entrance to the place you are staying is the stuff of nightmares...)

Personally, I don't like doner, which made in Germany, meat is awkward, and they put too much sauce in it as well as too much topic, it kills the meat's taste. It is not Doner; it is like something else :D kind of a meat sandwich. Maybe because I ate somewhere bad, but don't know and never seen a place where I can find a good one; I live in Cologne if you know somewhere makes good doner as in Turkey, let me know :D

There is a saying in turkish. You dont trust the taste of your meat if you hide it behind sauces and stuff :)

The plot twist they were both Turkish doners as the restaurant in Germany is Alaturka which literally means ''Turkish style'' :)) While i think main difference is the meat as in Turkey doner is a mix of lamb and beef especially lamb tail fat is quite important for making doner tastier but i know it is hard to find tail fat in Germany so perhaps they are using only beef then doner would become less tasty but not by a huge level. Also that pide bowl was just amazing, sadly in Turkey doner is not served like that..

And a little bit beside the Autobahn maybe Tübingen, Schloss Lichtenstein, Burg Hohenzollern, the Donautal and the Bodensee with Konstanz or Lindau?! And that all for a Kebap (yes, its a rather good one) in Stuttgart?! 🙄😄 Nevertheless, i like your videos and wish you a nice time.👍🙋‍♂️
