As a child, I would throw my schoolbag in the corner after school. And then I would leave the house until the evening. We usually played cowboys and Indians and shot at each other with homemade arrows. Or we climbed the highest trees. We played in meadows or in the nearby forest. We despised playgrounds. We could do whatever we wanted all day long without supervision. And there were no cell phones yet. So our parents couldn't harass us with calls. *LOL* We only had to be home in the evening, when the church bells rang at 7:00. Of course, we didn't have our own clock. We enjoyed this freedom - it was a wonderful childhood. Greetings from Germany, Bavaria:-)

I am Dutch and these recent "gender wars" in the U.S. are terribly frustrating and confusing. In the Netherlands it is normal to be a single dad with equal custody. And men also get parental leave when they have a newborn. It is not about men or women or who is the best, it is about the children.

But you can buy a gun in the gun store in Germany. And in both in the US, and Germany, a background check is performed. Some US states have stricter gun laws than Germany. Good luck finding a US state where you can freely aquire a pistol carbine kit without an SBR permit. Guns used in crimes are in both countries usually illegally obtained. Last but not least, a super meerkat would be hilarious.

Hey, this is my street! (4:42) On the other side of this Kita is a Kita for about 180 kids. It has a huge Garden to play outside, and they play outside on a daily basis. My children don’t have a seperate room. I know a lot of families who live in small apartments. We are 2 adults and 4 kids and share 3 rooms. (Kitchen, bathroom, living room, two rooms for the kids, the parents sleep in the living room. Bigger apartments are not availible or way too expensive.

This phase (three years, beginning from the last trimester of the pregnancy) is called "Mutterschutz" (mother- protection) . Women, who don't take advantage of this are blinded by feminist ideas. Here in Germany, nobody has to suffer from hunger or poverty. In other countries, where there's no such a system, it's of course another story. I emphasize with women elsewhere.

I invested a lot of time and energy in my education and saw little sense or benefit ​in staying home to be a 50s style stay at home Mum while depriving my husband of the close bond he developed with our son. It takes two to make a child and a strong mother to share the baby years. @@kikikoko607

When raising my (4) children, I set certain basic rules about the time spent on the computer and television. (Smartphones didn't exist back then, but I had an automobile phone that weighed about 14 kg^^). The children never took advantage of that time because there was always something more interesting to do.

Growing up in usa, there was a time when our neighbors knew everyone, we had a farm and in the summer, we would stay outside until it got dark. Unfortunately things and crimes started to be worse, even in our small town. Move to Germany and glad that my children were able to live free. They would go out until dark and most of the neighbors knew them. Unfortunately due to political of bringing or letting anyone in the country, crimes are gone up and my grandchildren don't have all the privilege like my children 😢

@@giobozzde My husband learned to bake as a child of 6. So it can't be that difficult. Try it! His mother had depression, PTSD and anxiety and was unable to run the household. His father was an electrician and was often away working for weeks, so as a schoolchild he did in addition to school all the housework, cleaning, laundry and cooking. He was an adult at the age of ten. I prefer to cook, with fresh veggies, spices, all that cutting, the colours of the veggies, the smell, the joyful anticipation... My husband does the baking. I'm not as good in it as he is.

When I was 13-14 years old, I rode the almost 60 km from us to Cologne Cathedral on my bike. And shortly afterwards, together with my younger brother, to Aachen city center. On the way back, his handlebars broke. We didn't call home anyway, but just carried on. . .

When I was about 13 or 14 y old my 1 year younger friend was on vacation with his parents at the Neusiedler See where he met a girl he wanted to see again. So back home he and I packed a tent and drove from our home town with our bicycles to Rust. So we still drove the rest of the way, but slower, due to my friend's damaged wheel and pain in his hip.

With 11 I rode on my bicycle from Duisburg to Krefeld to the zoo, about 30 km (15 miles), and back. All alone, no smartphone, only a few coins for a telephone cell in case of emergency. When I was 14 I went to Venlo in the Netherlands by bus and returned on a new dutch bike I had bought there. I literally smuggled the bike in, as there was no EU back then and you still had to pay import duty.

putting the danger question aside: isnt it also the point that we today as parents are forced to be the _best ever_ parents, to be just perfect. My children are already grown up, but from what i see around i'd say there is definitely a strict demand of the society for parents to be as perfect as possibble. Maybe the U.S. is only a bit ahead in time in this respect. The same holds for their way to schools: towns and neighbors of schools ache under an even growing number of helicopter parents driving their kids for any way they need to go. What's shown in this video about them cycling to school is IMHO vanishing. (and i dont think its good) So be prepared, there's probably no escape to such developments, not even in germany. 😉

Screentime: the reason, that those kids in the video won't need to be limited as much in their screentime is because they are unlikely to become addicted due to their responsible, independent and free upbringing. They simply have better things to do and way more choiceson how to live their lifes at this young age. That's the difference.

Our german kids are highly (!) in danger these times! Their independence is at risk too. And on top is, that the german law enforcement barely react to, for example, pedoph.les.
