German Mixed Salad: Gemischter Salat | Real German Food

Just returned from three weeks in Germany/Europe - Dortmund, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Berlin - we ate a variation of this wonderful salad everywhere - I never knew it was 4 - 5 individual salads but that makes perfect sense. Danke shon! A perfect anecdote to sausages, schnitzel and spaetzel. Making this tonight as a welcome back home dinner with fond thoughts of our trip of a lifetime.

Super, I can't wait to try it tonight. I am not a sour cream guy, so I am anxious to try the cucumber salad without the creamy dressing. I am going to add a little German potato salad and perhaps a few marinated grilled chicken tenders and serve on a flat plate. My recollection of Gemischter Salat in Germany is the dish is often served on a flat side-plate with some potato salad and no leafy lettuce salad. I like your variation with the leafy salad and will add a small amount of protein to make it a one-dish dinner. Using chicken for a protein is for my wife,. as there are also many vegetation options that are also great. All the best.
