Aboriginal Australian here. Im an Elder of my Nation. Gunditjmara Nation. Im working on the first Treaty in Australia, being established in the state of Victoria where I live. We as a country have been going through much social and ideological growth. We are also a multicultural country. I love my country and all the people who call our country home. We may have a small population but its a big country. Ive always felt that we as a global citizen should be a beacon of refuge, hope and civility amongst the turmoil of the world. As a First Nations person, you are most welcome to come visit our beautiful country, and if you like stay and call it home too. In my language, Ngattanwaa (Welcome).

Since you're working on the state treaty, I was wondering if you felt comfortable sharing your stance/thoughts on the Voice?
@charki40
@charki40 2 жыл бұрын
@@jessbellis9510 Hi Jess. The Voice is primarily about establishing constitutional protected rights for First Nation peoples to be consulted on any legislations and laws developed by Federal Government that affect First Nations peoples. Irrespective of the political party. This is also in line with the United Nations on the Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which Australia has been a signatory since 2009. Much of which has never been implemented until now. This recognition exists already in many westernised countries including USA, Canada, New Zealand and parts of Europe. It is essentially allowing us to have a say on how legislations and laws are developed and applied to ourselves. Are they ethical are they reasonable. Aboriginal Australians has suffered with over 200 pieces of legislation that profoundly impacted our society and culture without any redress or say. Its time we are allowed to have a say on how we are legislated as it affects us directly. I hope this helps in understanding what is meant by us having a Voice to Federal Parliament.
@charki40

@@jessbellis9510 Thought I would give examples of impacts of legislations applied only to First Nations Australians. Marriage, areas of work or employment, wages, Service in Armed Forces, rentals or housing restrictions, personal movement, child removals, incarceration rates.. Since 1800's until 2000's legislations have been brought in by States then Federal Govt that applied only to First Nations people that impeded and controlled us and our human rights. This is why A Voice to Parliament is so necessary. Its time we get to have a say.

Day to day life- for most people in cities and big towns the most we would encounter are nasty spiders in the yard (we generally just leave them alone), maybe a very occasional snake at a park or local bush land area and that’s it. Magpies are more of a threat than anything else 😂

I am Australian and you are absolutely correct about not travelling all this way and just focussing on beaches. I have circumnavigated the whole country by motorbike … in 2016 and again in 2022; over 40,000 kms in total. Yes, there are great beaches over the entire coastline but Australia is soooo much more than that. The grandeur of the outback alone is on such an epic scale that defies my ability to describe it on a simple KZbin post. The rainforests, the deserts, the mountains … they all deserve to be acknowledged, not just the beaches. And you know what … in some of the remotest parts of the country I visited, I always found young foreign backpackers living and working in these communities. They were from all over the world, including Germany. Come visit … come and explore. You will be most welcome!

A few things not mentioned; 1). There are approximately one million feral camels in Australia. ~350 are exported annually. 2). There are estimated to be about two million feral deer. 3). The toad that he talks about is know as a "Cane Toad", (Rhinella marina). 4). Australia has a greater annual snowfall than Switzerland. The reason is because the mountains where the snow falls are close to the coast and therefore the air is quite moist. Cheers.

Jervis bay actually has a lot going for it.. Wollongong NSW is pretty much everything anyone would want to see, 27 beaches connect to walk the coast from South of Sydney down to the gong. Bondi beach is good and yes locals love seeing tourists but we do also encourage sunscreen because we really might take the pizz out of a lobster in the evening after a summer day at the pub. Don't get burnt. Last night I killed a funnel web spider in my shower.... They are deadly.

Heh, my geography dream has always been to visit the home of baroque and classical music in Europe. (Lily looking for a little affection is fine with me by the way and considerably less annoying than the bloke on the video.) You ask what it's like to live day to day amongst the World's Deadliest. I'm in the south east of Australia, so hardly an expert in this field. I grew up understanding if it has more legs or less legs than I do, don't go near it, a well fed and/or watered magpie won't swoop and never put on a pair of gardening gloves that have not been turned inside out and thoroughly checked over first. Naturally, this theory applies to anything one wishes to plunge their nearest and dearest into. P.S I do like the background music though. And the info is reasonably accurate. And your reaction.

A few facts , there are now 26 million of us and all are extremely good looking and modest, there are no poisonous spiders or snakes in Australia ,you can eat them all,there are however many venomous spiders and snakes which we leave alone and they reciprocate by leaving us alone , Australians don't have an accent everyone else does , we weren't discovered by the Dutch but the Indonesians who were fishing Australian waters for centuries before the arrival of European explorers .while going to the beach is not a priority if we decide to visit one we have over 10,000 to choose from including the recognised best beach in the world which we don't disclose because we don't want an influx of tourists messing it up. But all this valuable information is of no use if you don't visit and see for yourself so as we Aussies say pull your finger out and get your arse down here , no excuses remember your a long time dead .

As to nasty animals and insects, we learn what they look like and what they can do, where they like to be, so we can leave them alone. Most people in large cities can avoid them altogether, though some can turn up completely at random, which is why they end up on the internet, because they are in an unusual place or situation. Certain places have natural populations of some like Sydney has funnel-web, red-back, and trap-door spiders etc Brisbane has red-backs, blue-tongue and bearded dragon lizards. 2inch long cockroaches are an unwelcome surprise to many. In North queensland we have a variety of snakes from pythons to red-belied black snakes and fiesty eastern browns are more often south a bit, which look very similar to taipans so mistakes are made. Our possums run across roofs sounding like hob-nail booted racers. Sulpher crested cockatoos strip my fruit trees while fruit is not ripe, then the Rainbow Lorikeets finish them off. We had a young flying fox (12" long fruit bat), take up residence in our yellow guava tree, he didn't leave after seeing us, he had been released from a carer. But they can get Lissa virus (deadly to man and beast), so they came and got him. Our cat annoys the curlews that live around here, they scream at him very loudly, so we go and chase him to leave the large sad looking birds alone. This area is on top of the Great Dividing Range, volcanic, red soil, rainforest, farmlands, mangoes, avocado, paw-paw, dairy, wineries, coffee, tea with natural fresh water lakes full of fish, red-claw and the dpi puts in barramundi fingerlings, which can grow huge. National parks, camp sites, caravan parks and hire houseboats.

The things missing from this video as it was quite brief... -A bit about the cities and states, tourist spots and buildings - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Alice Springs, Hobart -Our national sport AFL (Australian rules football) and cricket (which is played internationally), -Hardly any reference to our unique wildlife and plants - kangaroos, cockatoos, bilby, echidna, platypus, wombats, koalas, frilled lizard, eucalyptus, banksia, kangaroo paw etc that could take videos. -A bit about our politics Edit: As of today 22/05 our current Labor government and prime minister Anthony Albanese -The great barrier reef, the largest living organism on Earth -Ayers rock/Uluru - a sacred aboriginal site -Exports and mining (such as coal, uranium, iron ore and other natural resources) and farming, -Foods (like our meat pie and a couple of other things), -Australia day, Anzac day and other important days, -Some historical figures like Ned Kelly, Harold Holt, C.Y O'Connor -Our music and famous people - ACDC, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Heath Ledger, The Living End, Midnight Oil, Mel Gibson and more. And a couple of other things.

You ask about living with our so called deadly animals. I have travelled across most of our country and encounted a fair proportion of them at different times. In reality as long as you keep one eye on the ground and alert to your surroundings you really won't have a problem. Must animals will run away and keep to themselves as long as you leave them alone. General rule is common sense will keep you safe.

The colonization of Australia is a terrible story much like any other story of colonization. Unlike many other countries though it took us far too long to begin to treat Aborigional people like equals. If you research the Stolen Generation its quite horrific and very recent in our history. Theres indigenous people in their 40's who dont know who or where their parents are due to being stolen as a baby and placed into a white home. There are so many cultures and languages dying out due to things that white people introduced to indigenous people such as alcohol, sugar, and drugs. They're one of the oldest civilizations on the planet and deserve to be respected. They survived for 60,000 years in a harsh environment and thrived until we showed up.

Mate, you omitted adding the billions of $ that have been spent directly on 3% of the population for over 40 years yet there apperas to be little improvement in health, educational or financial outcomes for these people. Perhaps you should get off your arse out of Fitzroy North and learn about the real situation. Quite frankly, a large segment of taxpayers are sick to death of money being spent without any improvement in the indigenous life. Wasn’t ATSIC an absolute waste of time and money!!!!
