That’s the strange reality of war, people often just associate hate with war alone, but strangely you can associate love in there as well. It wasn’t hatred that motivated Chapman, who was bleeding out, to climb out of the bunker and draw enemy fire for the QRF. It was Love. And his final decisions and actions just shows you how much he loved his brothers in arms, even those who he didn’t personally know. You’ll be surprised that many recipients who were awarded the MOH posthumously did their final deeds out of love. I can’t even count on my hands of how many recipients gave their lives by jumping on a grenade alone to shield the blast from their comrades. That’s pure love right there.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award a member of the U.S armed forces can earn. Most people are awarded this medal posthumously. This medal is awarded because it embodies the veracity and unbridled spirit of a soldier in defense of comrades. "To go above and beyond the call of duty." Mr. Chapman earned his medals. ❤

No one has a greater love than this, that he lay down his life for a friend. His country called and John Chapman answered that call. He lost his life, but in doing so saved many more. So many young adults (and I use the word adult very loosely) whine and cry about having their feelings hurt and needing safe spaces and crayons. The Americans who faced three British charges at the battle of Bunker Hill, fought off Confederate advances at Gettysburg, stormed the beaches of Normandy, fought the Japanese tooth and nail, one island after another, and in every instance stared almost certain death in the face, they had no safe space. The American soldier, Marine, Airmen, and Seaman are the reason we can sleep peacefully at night. Too many have forgotten about the sacrifices made, the blood shed, the lives laid down in defense of freedom and liberty, and the tears cried by those left behind and that saddens me beyond words. Freedom is not free. It's paid for with the blood of all the American servicemen and women who selflessly laid down their lives for their country. I don't know if you do music reactions but if you do I recommend listening to Some Gave All by Billy Ray Cyrus. Thank you for reacting to this video. John Chapman's story of honor, courage, and sacrifice needs to be heard all around the world.

He absolutely knew fear, but it's how he reacted to it that shows his courage. He didn't have time to acknowledge the fear, or the pain from his wounds, or the hopelessness of his fight...all he had time to do was focus what was left of his capacity and do what he could for the other soldiers on that mountaintop. And no, that's not 100% from his training...that was mostly John Chapman, not John Chapman the combat controller.

Actually he only receive 1 Medal of Honor. His actions qualified him 2, but according to regulations, only 1 can be awarded. In order to get another your action must be different and that different action must be done in a different battle. Like in this video, chapman did 2 different action that qualifies 2 MOHs, but its the same battle so only 1 was awarded.

This is NOT the first one recorded; it is the first one RELEASED to the general public. The first ones recorded were Gary Gordon & Randy Shughart. You can validate this using the rules required to nominate someone. There must be a MINIMUM of 2 American Eye Witnesses to the action for which they are nominated. We know that there was only one survivor from the air crew, Pilot Mike Durant; he had been moved to a position of cover and possibly have seen what happened, but let’s just say he could, that still leaves us one short. There is another data point that is of interest. That battle took place early October 1993, their families were at the White House for the Award Ceremony that took place in May 1994, an incredibly rapid turn around of the Medal of Honor whose processing can take years. Therefore, with no eye witnesses on the ground, the rapid, no bump road to processing leads one to determine that there must have been incontrovertible proof of their actions and the only way to eliminate the frailty and confusing circumstances an eyewitness on the ground may bring to the table is if there was a video from which to accurately, and with the luxury of time to watch the actions over and over. Sadly, those who did see it and cataloged the chronology of their fight and their deaths. So, what you are watching is the first video released that shows the Navy SEALs abandon an Air Force Sergeant without confirmation of his status. Sad but there for all to see, it’s glossed over, but this is a medal I bet Chapman would trade for his life. I liked him and it tears me up every time I watch him die. The Navy SEALs were told that he was still alive, the senior SEAL elected to leave without Chapman, they lost focused because of what happened to Roberts. I miss him....still...
