Exactly ... one good example is the Turkish president who, of course, attracted some attention of German political satire ... After another satire show in German public TV (NDR extra3) performed a song about Recep Erdogan, he was so upset that he "invited" the German ambassador to talk with the Turkish foreign minister, who complained to the ambassador and demanded that the German government takes this video offline... to which the ambassador basically replied: No, we can't do that (freedom of press,.and the TV show didn't do anything that's illegal in Germany). Basically all Germany who read about this found the idea insulting, grotesque - well, and also laughable - that Erdogan apparently seriously thought that the German government would want to - or be able to - censor this piece of perfectly normal German satire / political comedy... Of course, this provoked much more satirical attacks on Erdogan in the following weeks.

@@fusssel7178 exactly ... and in the next show after the Ambassador's "appointment" with the Turkish foreign minister,. the host of the show commented on the incident, of course, and said something that in the first moment sounded like the beginning of an apology - "I'm sorry, we can't keep it like that..." or "we thought that we have to change that song..." , or similar - and then they aired the song again! But this time with Turkish subtitles!! Alongside the "Xtra 3" - show, the "Heute Show" has taken black humor and satire to the next level in Germany. Based on real facts, the various topics are so exaggerated that you just have to love these shows. Of course and understandably, you mostly watch the UK-related parts. Believe me: we Germans don't do any better in their satire than you! And you can tell that many people in Germany have a sense of humor by the fact that we are the only nation I know to have elected a satirical party to the European Parliament. "Die Partei". Founded by the editor-in-chief of one of the most biting satirical newspapers in Germany, especially in the 80's and 90's called "Titanik", Martin Sonneborn. He is now in his second legislative period in Brussels and will probably always win a mandate in Germany. There are a few speeches by him in the European Parliament on KZbin. In the previous series, „Der Kommissar“ = "The Commissioner", the sentence was actually used (Harry is played by the same actor). From my point of view as a person who knows very much about German satire and its history. The "heute show" feels very soft compared with shows like "die Anstalt" (the asylum) or "Neues aus der Anstalt" (news from the asylum). Political satire has tradition in Germany. This in some ways is tame compared to some pure political cabaret comedians. The point is to take a true core and then exaggerate it to oblivion to put a finger into the wound. Traditionally those artists are leftists. You might also like Volker Pispers or Urban Priol (Program on 9/11 and the USA by Pispers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXiTgp9mi8uWiMk) Also there is another good political cabaret show: Die Anstalt (The Psychiatry Ward, also on ZDF) which had a few great takes on Brexit (for example „Hotel Europa“/„Hotel Europe“) :D

The reason why the Germans are so harsh with the British and the Brexit is that we leave without England and betray a little. In my federal state (NRW) 75 percent of the exports went to England and this is very important for us .We feel like doing a shitty divorce. That's why our reactions are so harsh in your eyes. It was a prime example of something that the rest of the world still foolishly claims doesn't exist, namely German humor. The Germans probably have a more distinctive and traditional culture of humor than many other cultures. However, German humor is not silly like American humor, or smug like British humor, but rather direct, honest and hurtful. Germans practically invented satire. For us, humor is not silly children's stuff, but a serious matter. That's why it's not about Germans versus Brits. German humor is aimed at everyone without exception. And most of all, we Germans love to roast ourselves. Maybe that's why most non-Germans don't understand our concept of humor, because for us humor isn't just trivial entertainment, but also always serves a purpose. And the harder and more unexpected a German joke hits, the greater the mental relief when you laugh about it afterwards. If British humor is black, German humor is vanta black.

That's why I wouldn't deny that American humor is humorous. Even if you don't find something funny, it can still be humor. And German humor is often not as sweet and sticky as, for example, American humor, but it is bitter and sometimes the real joke only reveals itself at second glance. You don't have to like it or understand it. It's humor nonetheless.

Bollox, most British comedy is "farce" , in particular most of our sitcoms. A small percentage is dark , we have only ever made a few political shows and they were aimed at ourselves. We make every type of comedy. If Germany only make this crap it's a very poor effort

Why do Brits and German harm each other, because they are siblings. During WW I King George the V decided to change his family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha) to Windsor. Queen Victoria (called the grandmother of Europe/my history teacher told me) was the Grandmother of the german Emperor Wilhelm II (which was a cousin of Nikolaus II (czar of Russia). I do not want to to belittle anyone or anything what happend. But I suppose if would have been better that this "family dipute" should have been handeld intern. The house of Habsburg (Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) were for sure in some kind relatives to these families. P.S. Truly it shouldn't be called the "Heute Show" but the "Roasting Show". But as they are dealing mercyless with the Brexit theme they are dealing also mercyless with German politicians and politics in general. That's just what they do. And btw. the so called Ehringbert is called Christian Ehring who happens to have a show pretty similar to that called "Xtra 3". You may search it on YT. Only I don't know if they are providing English subtitles for it.

Germans love to humiliate everyone and everything - including ourselves. Some more than others but in general we love dark jokes to the point where nothing is too harmful. I am not that sensitive myself - therefore I could make jokes that are a glorification of violence or incitement of the people without even noticing it. I also make jokes about death, war, holocaust and its victims. Not to add more pain on them - I am fully aware of the horror of these topics and detest it completely. But I do believe that dark jokes like that help with that exaggeration to understand peoples messages better than explaining them without dirty jokes. And of cause they can distract the whole meaning in a complete opposite direction.

It can take some time to understand the different ways they make the jokes. Tbh some "under the belt" jokes feel more like a "we love you why do you leave (and maybe littlebit pissed about the duration and media of this)" than a real insult or dislike. For usual the people understand thats a crazy joke. I think they want to make you laugh about a sad thing to not be sad for a moment you know? The wax cabinet as a example, if you are in touch with the show you get the sense when they just start to make a joke, sometimes its pretty fluid maybe harder to see if you translate and just read it. So if he does this mostly its all fine. With that joke you could see they started with some truth that happen. Made some jokes and then ended in a complete unreal joke. That happens often like this. ^^ Some of our German politicians get Roasted far harder. XP The real hard hits are if he is "roasting" you with really calm words, really emotionless to angry looking and less joking and less laughing. The small shows between are always the same few actors which take in a funny role and make completely obscure statements. I think if you would watch some NEW videos you see the difference if they are really pissed about someone. XD Peace to you all peeps!

Me and everybody i know love the Brits. There is so much to admire, such deep culture in every aspect of arts, i would vote for John Cleese as a president thats how much i love Monty Python. No it isn't, the vast majority is harmless, clean and inoffensive to real people. Most are sitcoms like ofah , Fawlty towers, Blackadder etc . They do not target people who are alive. This German show is savage and when it is not funny it becomes offensive. German comedy is crude and purile and has a nasty attitude. Where is the light hearted comedy? Do you make any that is funny and suitable for the family?

I'm stunned how little it takes to offend you. "heute show" is one of the more tamed satire in Germany. You should check out some comedians like Max Uthoff or, as you done already, Volker Pispers for real dark humour.
