There's been a small mistake in the video. The saying is of course "Lieber arm dran, als Arm ab (I'd rather be poor than lose an arm). I gotta admit the way we interpreted it is funnier though 😂

@Bryan Kleinsasser We pretty much always use the word real-life there too. You can use "echte" in that context though. Das war eine echte Geschichte
@timewigleben59565 жыл бұрын
@Bryan Kleinsasser No problem, nowadays there are many English words implemented into how we speak. Depending on the context you can still use something like eine wahre Geschichte oder echte Geschichte, but in the most times real-life is also good. It also depends what style the book is written in. If you want to say it's a specific story out of a real life you can also say. Es ist eine echte Lebensgeschichte. There are many ways to translate this.

Can't see the forest for the trees, and age before beauty are English idioms too. I've never heard "slippery lie" before, but in English we DO use "slippery" as a descriptor for liars or untruthfulness in general.

I'm in Edmonton. There's no tackling in ice hockey. Altho IDK for sure but I maybe in soccer, tackling means to take the ball away. Over here it means take the ball carrier down to the ground. (NA football) Tackling in hockey would be an obvious penalty. I suppose if Leon Draisaitl were tackled, he might say he was eiskalt erwischt. :D

If I should a criticism, the explanation is a little bit court and if you could put a traduction in French if it is possible because I think there is more French in your community. Apart this, I like the channel. Keep going

"Alter vor Schönheit" is like "L'âge avant la beauté" in French. I wonder if it's also possible to say "age before beauty" in that way in English?

Why does he pronounce anderen at 2:36 that way,, he just says adnan and then moves in to the other word. Is that correct or is just a daily short way of saying it. I ask because if I follow the rules I am told in class I am to read it as anderen literally nothing else. Ugh I am confused now. new here...
@AV-we6wo4 жыл бұрын
andan/andern is just a shortened version of 'anderen' that many people use in daily life

It was super cool! But I've to ask 'cause my teacher once said that german phrases never end with "nicht". So "Er sieht den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht" is just informal or what?

You keep pronouncing "description" wrong. "tion" is like the German "sch" not like the German "tsch". :P
