Someone gave me a cross timber wolf and German Shepherd. I didn’t know what it was because the guy had gotten into problems having a timber wolf without proper paperwork. My son was 4 years old and they grew up together for almost 18 years. That dog protected my ex wife first, my son after he got older was number two, and finally me and our farm. If someone came, he wouldn’t bark but just move and sit between my then wife and the visitors. One time, someone came sneaking onto the enclosed porch and opened the door to the house. He grabbed the guy and took him to the ground. I got my shotgun and held him until the sheriff arrived. Prince was at his head and if he blinked too hard or tried to talk, Prince let him know to shut up. The guy was more afraid of the dog than the shotgun. On the other hand, he never once attacked anyone who was not a threat. Shepherds and mixes can be wonderful. I never once worried about our son when he was with the dog. When he was small, the dog would grab his jeans and drag him back to one of us if Prince thought there was danger.

If you ever get German Shepherd make sure you have LOTS of free time to be with it. They require a substantial amount of attention and training. But they are capable of being the best dogs a person could ever have. There’s a reason so many organizations use them.

My Gsd used to do literally same thing, she would push her head up to my hand when I was using mouse on computer. It's just sad that she won't be doing it anymore. It has been 10 days since we lost her but those attantion seeking pleadings, I will never forget.

plmck, Sorry for your loss. The best thing you can do is get another dog. Rescue one from a shelter. You'll never forget your deceased dog who is at the rainbow bridge, however an unwanted shelter dog will fill the gap and make both of you very happy. Take it from someone who has been there.

Lots of GSDs, in the dog pounds. Facebook, GSD communities, a tank of gas. Sometimes, less than $100 to the pound or shelter. Don't stop the love, in your heart. Stopping the flow, is unnatural and cruel to your soul. Don't try to stop, a river. Smile. GSDs are the best. Accept nothing less. My girl will be 10, on the 4th of July! Best $40, that I have ever spent!!! Don't stop the love, it's to hard on you.

My friends Shephard used to take one if my shoes..(many pairs inside door)..and he would sit there when I was leaving just waiting for me to say "wheres my other shoe!" He would then run to back doors with me chasing him and there was my shoe in.the backyard..a wonderful boy and a true ham. He would not settle at nite until he checked all the bedrooms for each kid. I still miss our BEAR♥️

Have a Polish Lowland Sheepdog.. he would not give up so easily. And he is so gentle and creative that you simply melt down and let him have it. You know how he wakes you up to do things (usually to let him go and check the perimeter of the property every 4 hrs, because it is his duty - so he thinks)? He comes to your bed, puts his nose against your face and gently blows air. If it does not work, he blows harder. If this does not wakes you up he puts his paw on you face. The last resort is... he barks loud into your ear. Man... that hurts so bad! Just one bark and you are on your feet in a split second... I love my little, smart Pole!

When I was a teen still at home we had a German Shepherd. Great dog, very obedient and sociable. But very protective of the family. He would roam "Patrol" the house at night and do a bed check, a wet nose poking at you. Then lay in the hallway between the bedrooms, sometimes snoring. But none of us minded.
