Liegt eher daran das es allgemein nicht sehr viele Hersteller von Dachfenstern gibt, von denen auch nur ein kleiner Teil diese Sonderformen herstellt. I'm German and to me its kinda funny that people can be so amazed by our windows.. and to your question,yeah basically every window we have is like that
@SmallSpoonBrigade5 жыл бұрын
I think it's because they're all around you. Here in the US, windows like that wouldn't necessarily make sense in most of the country due to the weather and the bugs. The ones she's referring to are mostly ones that are the lowest common denominator. They're an older, simpler design and likely to work in any part of the country. They could also be made on site and are easily repaired when broken. The crank ones are a bit newer. We've also got ones that slide to the side in some places. But, really, in so much of the US having windows that actually open isn't much of an advantage as the temperature outside is frequently more unpleasant than the temperature inside.

+ScharferKeKs With screwdriver you can open almost any window in second :D, so no big difference. Check on youtube how if you dont know, there should be something about this. So if you want enter to someones flat.... use balcony ( brutal reality about plastic windows ). Only more expensive windows have protection ( thre is lock in hadnle, without key you dont move bolt, there can be also different kinds of protection than kay in handle ). So without outdoor blinds ( roletes or how they call this... ), and without lock in window.... 1 second and you are inside .
@dodgygeezer2925 жыл бұрын
@@mehowop The lock on the handle only prevents people from the inside getting out, it does not give any additional security when trying to break in ;) that is provided in better windows and doors by interlocking mechanism which goes all around the window on the inside so you cant lever it open

I like many American windows. And the way that German window swung open inwards seems a bad and unsafe & inefficient design: Wastes interior space, is in the way of people indoors and unsafe for kids to run into. American up and down old or new style seem better. American outward cranking windows are OK, but often don't open all the way.

Wow this must be one of the most British sentences I’ve ever read. 😂
@littlerave864 жыл бұрын
@@carlcushmanhybels8159 That's what the tilt is for ;) I've rarely opened the whole window, sometimes you do that for a minute or so to quickly refreshen the air inside the room but it's not like it's left completely open for hours. And whether it wastes space indoors is architectural design. Our children don't have any safety issues with them, otherwise we probably wouldn't use this design all over the place.
@MuracosaSven4 жыл бұрын
If it would swung outward you could hit somebody on the street and also the Rolladen wouldn't work anymore and could be damaged. Also in a normal house or apartment there is enough space and you only open it for a few minutes and normally not the whole day. So far I've never seen a kid having problems with an open windows, because they know it and if there is a danger of falling out there has to be a railing so it is save. To get fresh air in the winter it is more efficient to open the window for a few minutes to get as much fresh air in the room as possible, so it is better to be able to open the window as wide open as possible. Safes energy for heating. And we have in new houses triple glazed windows, so would be to havy to crank it up.

Coming from NY, I also had the same reaction to windows in Austria, which are exactly the same like the ones in Germany. I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this in the comments, but German/Austrian windows are also double-paned and are filled with a special gas that acts like a super-insulator. Basically, they do an amazing job of keeping not only the cold, but also and noise outside, thereby saving you tons of money in heating bills and keeping your apartment quiet at the same time. There are many things I miss about the U.S. while living in Austria (large supermarkets, 24 hour shopping, decent refrigerators, wide selection of items when shopping, etc), but there's NO comparison when it comes to Austrian/German windows. They're a century or two ahead of us! One final note: these windows only come standard in newer or renovated apartments and houses. In unrenovated buildings built before the 50's and 60's, you'll still find the old windows, which are pretty much on par with what we have in the U.S.
@daza97325 жыл бұрын
Well, in recent years most of the older buildings, pre-war constructions included, have gotten upgrades because of EU subisdy deadlines. The old windows are more and more a thing of memory. I miss the old brass handles...

@mareksykora51976 жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen such a window? It has a special mechanism to avoid this. The only possible position to start openning or to start tilting is the closed window.
@Casomyro19836 жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe it´s an old generation of windows. I had these by my self as a small kid. I accidently ,,tilt-opened" them and was afraid that it´s broken or something.
@steph15186 жыл бұрын
Marek Sýkora They certainly should have a safety mechanism like that, but not all of them do. Maybe it depends on when they were built... I was always a bit scared of opening our terrace door, since it would do exactly that when you accidentally tilted the handle too much - and it was a huge, heavy glass door!
@cs50986 жыл бұрын
steph it really depends, some window styles omit the safety mechanism for preventing it (like my bathroom and toilet windows) and for some of them you can disengage the safety by hand, lots of fun times were had in school if you knew how to disengage it and made it so it's in the "wrong" configuration with the handle in the "closed" position
@MrHirschgeweih6 жыл бұрын
Marek Sýkora its true. A lot of balcony doors with a "kipp" function do allow that fault. And suddendly you hold the whole door in your hand.

It's really easy. When you aren't used to these kinds of windows it's very cool. In the US the windows are totally open and anyone could take your screen off and come into your house. Also, the US does have what we call French doors. They are a double door but one side opens like a normal door, but they sometimes have a screen on one side so you can leave the door open without bugs getting in. The only downside is again burglars can walk right into your house with no problem. When the windows tip you have part of a window in the way so burglars can't easily get into your house. I said to my Swiss husband "we are doing this kind of window when we move to the US."
@Chameleonxx36 жыл бұрын
I guess they can get in but you will notice it as you have to break open the window, glass shatters when it falls, etc. . Obviously helps that you can use Rollladen to protect the open window spaces as they have small gaps to let air in.

I live in the Czech Republic (the neighboring country of Germany) These windows are quite common here. I think that such a window system is used everywhere in the European Union, it is the so-called "euro-window". "Rollladen" is called "Rolety" in Czech. I also think that for you as an American can be interesting some european security doors with the multipoint locks, that are used in many apartments.

Unsere Rolladen sind viel langsamer. Da drückt man auf einen Knopf und dann kann man warten...
@bluejay5246 жыл бұрын

I guess thats one reason why AC in Germany isn't that requested as in the US. If you want fresh air, just Kipp the window :)
