We hear much about advance WW2 German weapons that didn’t arrive quickly enough or were unreliable. Apart from materials shortages the use of forced labour was a big source of sabotage. When building complex systems it’s more straightforward to sabotage.. but very brave on behalf of workers who risked instant execution if caught.

The Me 163 Komet at the air force museum may have been sabotaged while under construction as a small stone was wedged between the fuselage and fuel tank. That is just one example.

My Grandmother told many of stories, survived WW2 in London. The buzz bombs were one of them. My Grandfather was in the desert through Italy into Austria at the time. Seeing content like this reminds me of listening to the RL stories, the horrors, tradgity. Understand the moments now where they stare in silence after telling them. They understood the importance to share what happened so it would not happen again. People today need to understand these war machines had one purpose, to kill you.

The UHU or Owl was most effective using it's standard armament. It was also a quality night fighter but suffered from unreliable engines. Don't believe I have ever heard of it being able to match the RAF's "wooden wonder" the Mossie in speed. But the 4 fuselage mounted 30 mm cannons must have really rattled those bomber boys pretty good.

I think 4 20mm cannons in the fuselage and 2 30 mm in the wing roots firing all forward and 2 Schräge Musik 20 mm firing 65 degrees forward/up

@@achimstemmer889 Not the books I've read or the models I have. Most always four 30 mm mounted in the belly. Belly mounts help hide the muzzle flash at night. Losing night vision from muzzle flash can be bad for the attackers health.

The He 219 Owl was strictly designed for night fighting and bomber attack. It lacked the speed to be able to be utilized for any other role...it wasn't intended to fight off Mosquitos but apparently some skirmishes did happen. It was beautiful and like so many Nazi inventions....came too late in the war to be if any use.
@kennethgerlock3571
@kennethgerlock3571 26 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comments you provided but there have been a couple comments about its speed. This leads me to expect that some authority is making this statement. The research I have shows the Eagle Owl's top speed to be between 415 and 420 MPH. The Mosquito's top speed is either referenced at the High 370's or around 415 MPH. If you have other reverences to support the speed claim, please pass it on so that I understand better. Thank you.

@@kennethgerlock3571 *In Heinze Knoke's book "I Flew For the Furher" he said he was given a brand new factory fresh mint 109 his faithful mechanic "Arndt" waxed it in the sun. He said no doubt it added 10 kph to its speed. He was shot down in that Gustav and Arndt cried. Thats about it. Thats about as "slick" as they got. But why? They even make "flat" and "matte" finishes but clearly somebody chose not to use them. Like I said probably for longevity a glossy finish will easily outlast a flat tone 10 to 1 or better. P-61 Black Widows were painted a "Glossy" black. PBY Catalina "Black Cats" were hand smeared with a mixture of charcoal and Vaseline. A kind of a makeshift homemade mascara. Some British Night Fighters and Bombers were gloss-black underneath.*

+@@Imnotyourdoormat The Me-262 has been property of the US Navy since it was given to them for testing. Correct restoration was performed by a civilian company (actually it is the pattern airframe used to copy and build the new Me-262s.) My thoughts on the shiny paint may have been a request from the US Navy for appearance and maybe easier cleaning. It is on display at the Navy Aviation Museum in Pensacola.
