I agree with German society being pacifist but they no longer need as many "warriors" despite the conventional war we see in Ukraine. And even in Ukraine both sides are using large fleets of drones and the numbers will only increase. Between a pacifist and a warrior is a huge divide. Most people lie somewhere in between, such as non-combatant but willing to serve to people who are true pacifists that won't take part in any military in any form.

Wow, bashing the Swedish system.. Its not like Germany and Sweden can compare. Germany has a population of 90 million and can easily find 200 000 volunteers while Sweden has 10 million and therefore would have a harder time finding 200 000 volunteers. Also after Swedish basic training people can choose if they want to continue with their military training, return to civilian life or return to civilian life but continue training with the military from time to time.

Actually it's the opposite. Sweden WOULD BE able to *FIND* 500.000 soldiers if necessary. While Germany is NOT able to *FIND* 190.000, even IF It's necessary, because nobody in Germany is WILLING to defend the country. A poll showed that 98% of all Germans are UNWILLING to defend their country. 🤷🏻‍♂️ So no it's easier for Sweden ...

Just doing a head count doesn't make a military strong, you need soldiers who want to be there. The solution to recruitment is simple, pay better salaries, also make sure all the equipment is up to standard, the soldiers will be relying on all their equipment to stay alive they are not going to stay in a job where they going to die just because politicians could buy functioning military hardware. As for this plan it's sexist, anything that it compulsory for men should also be compulsory for women.

All Western Nations are experiencing a Patriotism Deficit this is probably an unintended consequence but like in the fall of the Great Empires it comes about from multiple causes and some will say this is better than the Jingoism of 1914 or 1939 or indeed the whole experience of the Cold War (1946 to 1991) when we knew who the enemy clearly was and what we stood to lose if they won. Now the differences and objectives are nowhere as clearly cut, the people who would join the Armed Forces in the past look at what they might be asked to fight for and do not agree that what they have now is worth defending, this is the fault of the trends that Politics have taken in the last decade or so.
