The aircraft that broke your back in balakot was Mirage - again from Dassault. 500+ helicopters that were made in india under the name cheetah/ chetak are french design all licensed from France during the 70s and 80s. Germany is also not behind. HAL has been building Dornier DO228 (140+ have been built) designed by Germany. DO YOU know that the first ASIAN country to design and build its own fighter is NOT China but INDIA. India built the HF24 Marut (named after the town near bangalore where it was built) in the late 60s (100+ were built) and this was FULLY designed and made in India but the Chief Designer was a German - Kurt who relocated to India seeking protection as he worked under the Nazis. So India has been partnering with these partners for a LONG time.

It's not about the Germans being late. Two countries one is Germany the other is Japan we are close with both. But the issue with these two economies are is that they are stooges of the americans, they would do what america wants them to do like Pakistan, same case scenario difference is they have a good economy and Pakistan doesn't. Now when it comes to technology Japan has a clear law that doesn't allow them to sell defense equipment to any nation not only India. Now when it comes to heavy machines or engines be it for tanks, or submarines German engineering is the best, no country comes close in terms of durability and advanced technology. We needed tank engines not to long back the Germans tried to arm wrestle us through by putting blockades because they wanted us to change our stand on Ukraine again this was done at the behest of the Americans, the Germans don't have a voice of their own. Now the double standards are when engine deal for our tanks were cancelled with the Germans who fills in the gap, it's the Americans. Now again the Germans are coming in the scene as they know a big deal is going to go somewhere else, and more so they have come to realise that these sort of politics doesn't work on India. And the other reason is Russia they want to reduce India's dependence on Russia. But what we got to see is would India risk their defense sector by collaborating with such nations that could pose as a threat during war times with sanctions. So the way out is if we need their technology and keep them at a check by securing our defense industry and forces is by asking them for technology transfer + make in India only then it makes sense making any sort of deal with the western partners as they are backstabbers. So tomorrow if sanctions are even put in the near future, it doesn't affect India's defence forces and the defence industries in anyway. The world has come to realise the only way out with getting India to buy anything from us is by investing in India's make in India initiative and the other is that these dirty politics don't work on India. We will do what we want to do and that which is in the best interest of the Indian population at large 😊.
