So true...and after all the bloody efforts to end up with Hitler's regime and free Europe, they had to witness Eastern Europe falling slave to the Bolshevist USSR for 45 years....and the former enemies Germany and Japan grew up to become the strongest industrial states in the world, after the USA, while the UK , France, and others lingered in semi-poverty for at least a decade after the war... The price they paid for winning WW2.

In the 70s I was stationed in Germany I became friends with a former Brandenburger . Two ,of many things that stood out and which made him unique He had a wall that had at least 40 rifles All WW2 military a plaque w his awards and decorations,and his ss accoutrements. He had a safe with handguns. Several things he mentioned over the years I knew him he proved to be truthful. The first. He was at Anzio (he had by this time transitioned into the ss.He was on patrol with his men.An American Lt. Popped out from behind a tree and shot him with his 45 . .the bullet hit his magazine pouch and didn't kill him( he was carrying a stg 44! With the large magazine pouches). He said they took the Americans prisoners and later released them . He kept the 45:as a trophy and produced it. it was a Government 45. In a subsequent conversation he told me that facing imminent capture he said he had hidden his stg in the roof of an Italian farmhouse.He had just returned from his vacation in Italy when he told this story .He then produced his stg and said here it is. The final incident, among quite a few, He had managed to slip away from his captors and he and others continued to head North. They had scrounged weapons . During one night they were surrounded by US troops. He stated that they were not disarmed and they and the Americans hunted partisans.in Italy. I realize that this sounds like fiction. My son (COL MD rtd ) was treating a retiree at Ft Gordon GA and this came up in conversation (my son as a teenager was present during this story by my friend) The retiree said Yes, I was there ,I recall it well. You draw your own conclusions. My friend stated I was and am a Nazi. During his youth Germany was in a turmoil . The economy was a shambles, reparations were destroying the economy Reds and Nazis were battling in the streets. he told me he felt the Nazis would be better for Germany so he joined them. He served in Russia and told of Russian attacks. He said you could hear them yelling in the forest. Then they would come out of the wood line, arms linked, the front rank had rifles,the rest were supposed to pick the rifles of the first rank. He said we fired our artillery point blank but it was so cold the cannon would not return from recoil,we fired our weapons machine guns also suffered from the cold, And still they came .We used grenades till we had none, then spades, knives ,dirt clods. it appears as if I am writing a book. I apologize. I am 85 now andi obviously don't have much time left. I absolutely believe this man. Very senior police Officials differed to him. He had emergency equipment on his Mercedes (lights,radio,emergency martin horn) he had a large briefcase that never left his side. He had a red pass, he had more guns than God. As a young man he parachuted into Dvar to capture Tito. he was wounded 11 times. He is gone as they almost all are. He was a soldier and fought for what he believed in. I feel honored to have known him

That was a really cool and interesting video, I didn't even know what the brandenburgers were before this so thank you. I don't think you guys have done a video on the Panzer lehr division so that would be nice to see. Also I know a while back a lot of the old videos were deleted from this channel, Is there any chance that they could be re-uploaded or uploaded somewhere else so that I could view them. Anyway keep up the solid work.

The head of the Abwehr was always an enemy asset. When you think about it, it's unbelievable that Germany did what they did with the massive intel leaks they had. Not only were the head of the tradional intel agency and many other top ranking figures enemy assets, but the Allies got their hands on a few Enigma machines (this is called "cracking" Enigma in recent times, but we're still trying to crack old Enigma codes from the war today..). It should have been impossible to operate or win battles under those conditions yet they still had a real chance of winning the war for awhile there.
@tjanderson5892 Жыл бұрын
It’s a lot like football in the sense that you can know the other teams entire playbook and still get crushed bc knowing what’s coming can only account for so much. I’d say the Allie’s tricking the Germans relentlessly played just as big a role as some of the gains received from learning some of the advanced German movements
