What Syria needs are well-educated people who have lived in peace, have respect for human rights and want to rebuild their country - not people who come with revenge in mind. WE DIDN’T RUN AWAY We were at war. Thousands volunteered, then went through conscription. Children were evacuated, women joined the forces, worked in the fields and munitions factories. Everything was saved and recycled. We built air raid shelters in our gardens. We didn’t run away to another country. People too old to fight became air raid wardens, police men, home guard, firemen etc. Women drove the ambulances and provided tea and sandwiches. They trained to be nurses and left home for the first time. We dug up our gardens and parks to grow food. We had our food rationed. We didn’t run away. We fought for our country. We learnt how to keep pigs and chickens. Delivered milk to towns. We lived in the blackout for years, went to work in the dark. We were bombed relentlessly week after week. Many worked deep in the mines and in the fields. but we didn’t run away. Our men were slaughtered, our women and children were slaughtered, our ships were sunk, our cities decimated, our aeroplanes shot down, In every town and village, there was someone who died. We did this for 6 years . . .and still we didn’t run away. UK

@serebii666Ай бұрын
Both Iraq and Egypt are quite stable, Egypt more than it should be, since it gets the Argentina treatment from the IMF (i.e. too big to fail). Libya is today also relatively secure from a security standpoint - they just can't decide on which government is legitimate, though their jurisdictions have largely remained static for the past decade, and even the 2 competing governments still cooperate out of necessity in various spheres, like their oil drilling, and revenue processing. **BIAS** This DW presenter, Phil Gayle, could not be more biased. He asserts his personal opinion before hearing one word from the correspondent. Why does DW continue to platform a presenter who repeatedly exhibits such unprofessional bias? 3:02 - "Welcome, Thomas. That decision by the German government seems premature while the situation in Syria is still unclear."
@lifemetamorphosis-d5jАй бұрын
....seems......that's the key word. He stood to be corrected if that wasn't the case
@user97200Ай бұрын
(1) You're right that "seems" would serve to hedge his statement; particularly if you were to read the words on a page. But when viewing the actual clip, Mr. Gayle's tone is unmistakably one of certainty, and the word he says most emphatically is "premature". (2) Ironically, it is Mr. Gayle's blatantly biased assertion that was premature, as the correspondent goes on to contradict Mr. Gayle. From 3:13 - 4:12 , the correspondent explains that determining the security status of an asylum applicant's home country is essential to the asylum adjudication process (in addition to considering the applicant's personal bases for claiming asylum). So when Mr. Gayle blindly asserted that the German government acted prematurely (with the implication being the suspension was borne of German malevolence towards Syrian asylum seekers), it actually revealed that Mr. Gayle should stay in his lane as a presenter by asking quality questions and refraining from editorializing.
