Poor Fiji :( Ranked in the bottom 30 nations in the world for football I believe. But hey, glad to see them celebrate their goal even if it was when they were still 6-1 down. Stuff like that makes you smile :) Hopefully they can pick up a good result against one of the other teams in their group

there is no point in playing larger rich nations vs smaller poor nations in sports. what next, usa vs fiji in basketball? ((: wealth and population decide sporting potential, larger richer countries need to be broken down by local regions.

***** That's nonsense. It's good for smaller countries to play against better teams. It gives them experience, the sport can grow etc. I don't see the negative side to it. Besides, everyone should be allowed to compete.

Jerry B Andérson i think you misunderstood me... I'm not saying they shouldn't compete, I'm saying larger/richer nations need to send regional teams based on population/wealth otherwise it is pointless. Even elite athletic countries like New Zealand and Ireland cannot compete with big/rich countries across the board in all sports like USA, Russia, Germany, et cetera.

***** I don't think it's pointless. Like I said, smaller nations benefit from it. And for many athletes it's probably an honor to go against greats like messi, ronaldo, neuer etc. And I'm certain even for the fijian players losing 8-1 on that day it was a good thing for their career and for the sport in that country.

Jerry B Andérson of course some people still may or may not benefit, but you are just finding excuses and that is not the point. I'm talking about national results. Playing Germany vs Fiji doesn't tell us who is better. I'm not saying Fiji matches with any German region of relatively equal wealth/pop, but there are plenty of countries who may or may not (such as Uruguay for instance). Germany vs Fiji is ridiculous. Bremen vs Fiji is at least somewhat reasonable. Bavaria vs Uruguay is much more reasonable than Germany vs Uruguay. Why should Liechtenstein lose almost every game they play? They do not have an equal chance of making it to the world cup, it is absurd. It is just a wealth/pop issue, not extremely difficult to fix.
