Nobody made it look easier with style than Gerry Lopez.

I was a teenager and watched Gerry surf PIPE in the 70s, Lots of Hard Chargers with plenty of Talent and I salute them all, I think what made Gerry above the rest and earned Him the moniker of Mr. PIPELINE was His Seemingly relaxed and casual approach to that Wave which hid all of the work that Gerry did out of the water, Yoga, meditation and a Spiritual Mindset that allowed Him to be One with that Wave and move in it with FLUIDITY and STYLE, One of A Kind!!✌❤🤗

Gerry’s surfing is aesthetically sophisticated and timeless, surfing in tune with the wave, not attacking it. No anger, just flowing with the energy.

He made look so easy, was for him . Wake up have coffee, or some fruit walk few yards paddle a bit and drop any wave he wanted and seeing him was like a guy walking in a park

i cant believe he moved to oregon he surfed the best time at pipe those early years looked so cool

I totally agree. She is so smooth and graceful. And none of that horrible rail grabbing that almost everyone does today. The truth is the surfing back then was better, and I’m not being nostalgic. I know the equipment is different come up bigger boards are more stable. I hate all that stalling and everything they do now. But I do like the acrobatics!

No leash. Appearing almost effortless. My “magic board” of the early 70’s had to have a lighting bolt on the bottom towards the nose.

Having surfed Ala Moana as a youngster, the transition to Pipeline was an organic process for success.

at the 0:48 ....!@#$% are you fuvking kidding me...in that moment, to somehow have the audacity to be somewhat inconvenienced by the presence of some mist in his face under the lip of a giant blue spinning tube at pipe to stand tall and wipe that fuckin mist from his beautiful perfect face has got to be the single coolest fucking moment in all of surfing history without question....the face wipe...it is the most intense spectacle of surfing progression and was fucking amazing
@alexcorrea18547 жыл бұрын
If you surf very often (like Gerry!!) the same spot at that size you would be able to do that too. Gerry was the best at Pipe because he surfed there a lot. He is the master!

Still trips me out he was in the Conan Barbarian film he did good job in there cool. Always went to the Lightning Bolt shop in back of Ala Moana shopping mall checked out the boards and pics of Jerry Lopez when we're kids.

How the hell were leashes not invented yet? I mean tie a rope between your leg and board, how difficult was that to figure out? Great surfing.
