Gerry Rafferty is without a doubt the greatest singer songwriter of the modern age. I grew up with Gerry's music and it has carried me through some rough times and some great times too! Many artists have been inspired by Gerry's music. A Stealers Wheel REUNION with Joe Egan and Gerry back together would be fantastic! Come on Joe and Gerry, the world is READY for you guys to come back together and make some classic music!

Gerry Rafferty and Al Stewart are great examples of how great this music was in that time period that contemporary musicians hardly ever touch.

Gerry... there was only one. I was at his funeral (a privilege & honor) & in the documentary Rab Noakes made for the BBC - his music has been a major part of my life since 1977 (I was 10)

A creative genius who didn't get anywhere near the recognition he was due. Then you get lady gagme types who are all hype & no substance. I about shit myself when I heard some interviewer calling HER a "visionary genius"! WTF? For more derivative disco? Damn, this guy sounded great live too, thanks for sharing. I wish I could've seen him live! Rest In Peace Mr. Rafferty, hope your demons are laid to bed & your soul is free to compose unencombered for all eternity! Thanks for sharing!

He was a legend, I loved his albums especially City to city, snakes and ladders and Night owl. His voice on the latter blended immaculately with Barbara Dickson. He was a true Scot with an unfortunate Irish name, dont forget all you Irish that want to claim him as your own that all things Gaelic come from the Scots originally!!
@johnmullane40342 жыл бұрын
first time I have ever heard anybody say that, I am Irish and a lifelong fan of Gerry, and I have never once heard anybody here claiming him as anything other than Scottish, maybe his Irish name comes from the fact that he has Irish ancestry, and that's something you will have to deal with, just enjoy his music and get over yourself.

@trinzeon I never got to see him live, I was always 'waiting' for the next tour, I was brought up from the age of 2 listening to this genius. RIP MY MAN

Yes, it's crazy. Used to be (well, still am) a big fan of Lennon and Fogerty. But the more I listen to Gerry Rafferty, the more I realize how great he is. Don't mind if someone says "the greatest".

The lead guitar work on this particular live version is absolutely superb, Jerry Donahue or Hugh Burns!? or may'be both. Fond memories of his '93 Glasgow gig. God Bless.
@DonVideoGuy0072 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Hugh Burns in the beginning, but at the 03:24 time code mark, it sounds like a Jerry Donahue solo and then Hugh and Jerry have a "riff off"!

From this angle, our hero looks a bit like a youthful Randy Newman. Thank God, Gerry didn't get hit with the sardonic stik as he entered this world, and we dont have to deal with that in Gerry's straightforward , but sophisticated songs. Tom in Utica ny

@H4rryF Sadly, I have to admit that I'm in the same boat, and it's making me so terribly sad. I have immersed myself in Gerry's music these past 3 months, and have 'discovered' so much great music that I am so sorry to have missed. I'd like to take this time to ask Hodgepig if there's anything he could post or comment on regarding my latest discovery..."Down and Out." I CANNOT STOP listening to this song.....i just can't....
@FBAV12 жыл бұрын
It's astonishing to hear this, when documentary movies and informations about Gerry all say, he didn't like to be on stage, he would be shy or rather stand on the background..... This sounds like the opposite!! He even seems to be very enthousiastic about being in touch with the audience... Where's the missing link towards everything you hear about him?
